It's been some time since I have been active here on Hive. Today I decided it was time to jump back into the action and start posting again. I haven't been as active in gaming as of late, and I used to post a lot about that. Instead I thought I might try something completely different and dive into some great music for the late 1970's and early 1980's. The New Wave movement!
New Wave was a transition from punk, disco, electronic, pop, and even glam rock all kind of rolled into one. It was the end of disco as the world moved into a new form of music as new bands rose to prominence. I thought it might be fun to explore some of those bands today!
There are so many bands to choose from so this will be an ongoing series. Otherwise there would be no way to do justice to all of the artists out there who contributed and made the genre so successful. Today I'll kick it off with some of the true greats of the genre that all produced their unique sound that made them superstars. Their music is still relevant today and frequently heard in contemporary feature films. I do hope you enjoy!

Duran Duran
One of the biggest New Wave bands of the era had to be Duran Duran. This five member band went on the conquer the music world in the early eighties becoming one of the biggest band in the world. Their self titled album from 1981 did well in Europe and had some great songs that aren't heard quite as often. One of my favorites is a darker track called "Careless Memory".

Depeche Mode
A band out of Basildon, Essex, England they kicked off their career in 1980 as a four member band. Dave Gahan on vocals, Vince Clarke on keyboard and vocals, Martin Gore on keyboard and vocals as well as Andy Fletcher. Their first album in 1980 shot them to the top of the charts with "Just Can't Get Enough". This comes off their second album A Broken Frame in 1982 and is called "See You".

Blondie
Another huge band that came out of New York City in 1974. Led by singer Debbie Harry this band was one of the true pioneers of the New Wave movement and likely would not have been the same without them. This song was released as a single in 1980 and was the lead song for the film American Gigolo, this is "Call Me".
