(ESP-ENG) Glass no Hana to Kowasu Sekai (Garakowa) - Movie Review!

We sometimes underestimate the capacity that people can have to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Garakowa, besides being a fictional story, is one where what I mentioned is put to the test and ultimately proven to be true. Seeking out lesser-known films is definitely something I enjoy because having no idea what we're about to see is a plus; there's no such thing as conditioning. As I said, this is a fictional film where the focus seems to be on the world of AI, but with a significant human touch, produced by A-1 Pictures.

Garakowa, a parte de ser una historia de ficción, es una en donde esto que menciono se pone a prueba y se termina demostrando que es real. Buscar películas muy poco conocidas es definitivamente algo que disfruto porque el no tener idea de lo que estamos a punto de ver es un plus, el condicionamiento no existe. Como dije estamos ante una película de ficción en donde el centro de atención pareciera ser el mundo de la IA pero con un toque humano importante de por medio y que fue producida por A-1 Pictures.

Here we have two protagonists, Dual and Dorothy, two programs who live inside a space called the "knowledge box," a place where many timelines converge and where gravity doesn't exist. Their purpose is to eliminate the various viruses that can be created by the various worlds that live inside the box. These worlds don't actually exist; they are simply human memories simulated for storage. They are, logically, not human; they know nothing of feelings or emotions, but all this changes the moment Remo arrives.

La razón de ser de ellas es que están ahí para eliminar a los diferentes virus que se puedan crear a raíz de los diversos mundos que hacen vida en dicha caja. Esos mundos en realidad no existen, son simplemente recuerdos de los humanos y que fueron simulados para su almacenamiento. At first, it's unclear where Remo comes from or what her nature is (all becomes clear at the end of the film), but while she's there, Dual and Dorothy's monotonous life changes radically. The film is basically the path they take together until the outcome occurs, resulting in Remo's true intentions and the reason why she ends up in the box. I didn't know what to expect, especially considering it's only an hour long film. In the end, it turns out to be a story of friendship where, thanks to the vision of one of them, the other two begin to learn things and realize that there are other things outside the box.

> Al principio no se sabe muy bien de dónde viene Remo o su naturaleza (al final del film se aclara todo) pero mientras ella está en aquel lugar la vida monótona de Dual y Dorothy cambia radicalmente. La película básicamente es el camino que ellas transitan juntas hasta que ocurre el desenlace producto de las verdaderas intenciones de Remo y la razón del porque ella llega a dicha caja. Yo no sabía que esperar y más sabiendo que es una película de apenas 1 hora, al final termina siendo una historia de amistad en donde gracias a la visión de una de ellas las otras dos comienzan a aprender cosas y a darse cuenta de que hay otras cosas fuera de la caja.

The plot may seem simple to understand, but throughout the film, there are things that constantly leave you wondering, things that aren't entirely clear, and that at least keeps you interested. The point is that when things touch on artificial intelligence, everything usually becomes very predictable because the premise is almost the same in all the stories: the AI becomes autonomous and therefore unpredictable. Despite the fact that this box is something created by humans, inside it is a parent AI that will ultimately play an important role. I won't say I was bored, but it is something I've seen several times.

> La trama puede parecer simple de entender pero a lo largo del film hay cosas que uno siempre se está preguntando, hay cosas que no están del todo claras y eso que por lo menos el interés no se pierda. El tema es que cuando se hacen cosas que tocan algo referente a la inteligencia artificial por lo general todo se vuelve muy predecible porque la premisa es casi la misma en todas las historias: la IA se vuelve autónoma y por tanto impredecible. A pesar de que esa caja es algo creado por los humanos dentro de ella hay una IA matriz que al final tendrá un rol importante. The animation is very well done; it's from A-1 Pictures, so you'd expect nothing less. It's extremely colorful and full of detail. This box has various worlds they can travel to, all from different eras and landscapes. I think what's most striking is the level of realism with which these places were captured; they look like real photographs. In fact, Roraima (one of the most spectacular and well-known mountains in the world, located in my country, Venezuela) appears. I think the visual aspect is undoubtedly the best part of the film; it complements the short story and the simplicity of the plot.

> La animación está muy bien hecha, es de A-1 Pictures, no se puede esperar menos. Es extremadamente colorida y llena de detalles. Esta caja tiene diversos mundos a los que ellas pueden viajar, todos ellos de diferentes épocas y paisajes; creo que lo que más llama la atención es el nivel de realismo con el que plasmaron esos lugares, parecen fotos reales. De hecho sale Roraima (una de las montañas más espectaculares y conocidas del mundo y que está en mi país, Venezuela). Creo que sin dudas el aspecto visual es lo mejor del film, complementa mucho a la corta historia y la simplicidad de la trama.

In short, a film that teaches us that we should always question everything, our goals, and our way of seeing things. There are people who come into our lives and we don't know the impact they can have, just like Dual and Dorothy. We must always be cautious, but we must also know how to give them a chance when we're completely sure of their intentions. By the end, you'll understand a lot, and the plot may get a little more emotional. There are details I expected, others I didn't. It's a very average film; not bad, but just another one of the many. The good thing is that it's very short, and for that reason alone, I'd give it a chance—oh, and because of the incredible animation.

> En fin, una película que nos enseña a que siempre hay que cuestionarnos todo, nuestros propósitos y forma de ver las cosas. Hay personas que llegan a nuestras vidas y no sabemos el impacto que estas pueden traer, al igual que Dual y Dorothy, siempre hay que estar cautos pero también hay que saber dar la oportunidad cuando ya estemos totalmente seguros de las intenciones. Con el final van a entender muchas cosas y puede que se ponga un poco más emotiva la trama. Hay detalles que me esperaba, otros que no. Es un film muy promedio, no es malo pero si uno más del montón.
