(ESP-ENG) Kyochuu Rettou | The Island of Giant Insects - Movie Review!

The search for the weird makes us broaden our horizons in order to be able to see anything just out of curiosity. I'm a big fan of seeking out strange films that very few people have seen, or so I think, because within that group of films there may be things that are truly worthwhile. Kyochuu Rettou is one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen. I can categorize it as that typical adult film that is terribly bad but that you can't stop watching because there's something about it that hooks you. To give you an idea of what this is about, this film is an erotic horror film, just as you read it, where gore and the sexuality of its characters are the protagonists.

Kyochuu Rettou es de las cosas más bizarras que he visto, puedo catalogarla como esa típica película para adultos que es terriblemente mala pero que no puedes dejar de ver porque tiene algo que te engancha a la pantalla. Para que vayan entendiendo por donde va la cosa este film es un terror erótico, así como lo leen, en donde el gore y la sexualidad de sus personajes son los protagonistas.

This story is about a group of students who were stranded on an abandoned island after a plane crash. Among the characters is Oribe Mutsumi, a girl who loves nature, especially insects, and knows everything about them. While exploring the island looking for a way to survive, they realize they are not alone. Giant insects live there, but they're the size of a bus. This undoubtedly sparks panic and fear in these young people, who find themselves threatened by such creatures. If you suffer from entomophobia (fear of these creatures), you might have a hard time watching this.

Entre los personajes está Oribe Mutsumi, una chica la cual es amante de los naturaleza y especialmente de los insectos, conoce todo de ellos. Mientras exploran la isla buscando la manera de sobrevivir se dan cuenta de que no están solos y es que en ella habitan insectos gigantes, pero estamos hablando que son del tamaño de un autobús. Esto sin dudas prende el pánico y el miedo en estos jóvenes que se ven amenazados por semejantes bichos. The film revolves around how they try to avoid being consumed by these insects thanks to Mutsumi's knowledge. Obviously, some of them don't have the best of luck. As I said, what's surprising here is the gore, but it's grotesque and comes with the characters' body language, with everything these insects produce, the way they kill people, and how, at the end of the day, many are already disgusted by these creatures. What would you feel if you noticed ticks crawling up your leg? Well, that's one of the things you'll see here. As I told you, it's not a horror that's scary, that's not what it's all about, but rather one that can be horrifying.

> La película va en como ellos tratan de evitar ser consumidos por estos insectos gracias a los conocimientos de Mutsumi. Obviamente algunos de ellos no corren con la mejor de las suertes. Como les dije lo que sorprende acá es el gore que hay pero ese que es grotesco y que viene dado con las expresiones corporales de los personajes, con todo lo que producen estos insectos, la forma en cómo matan a las personas y que al final del día a muchos de por si les dan asco estas criaturas. Que sentirias si notas que unas garrapatas te están subiendo por una pierna? - pues bueno, eso es de las cosas que acá verán. Ya les digo que no es un terror que da miedo, no va por ahí la cosa, sino es uno que puede dar grima.

And the other part is sexual. The erotic connotation is very present, and something Yasutaka Fujimi, the creator of this film, is very proud of. This genre is known as "ero-goru." What do we see then? Well, sexual encounters, some consensual and others not so consensual, topless women bathing together; there's a kind of sexual tension throughout the film between the characters that eventually materializes at one point. Mind you, this isn't hentai because it's not as graphic in that sense, but it is suggestive, and it plays a lot with fan service. It's definitely NSFW.

Ojo, esto no es hentai porque que no es tan gráfica en ese sentido pero si es sugerente, juega mucho para y por el fanservice. The plot itself isn't great, but it's not boring either. It's interesting to see how they resolve the situations where they're overwhelmed by these insects, largely thanks to Mutsumi. The animation isn't bad, but what did bother me visually a bit was the CGI of the insects. I'm not a big fan of exaggerated 3D things, so I think the design of these creatures went a bit overboard here. Otherwise, everything is pretty decent and average. In the end, it's a film for those who like to watch everything just to gain more knowledge of things that aren't as commercial. It's a short film, less than an hour and a half long. It's not the best I've seen, but it's definitely super interesting. They say the manga is a thousand times better, so I already have new homework.

> La trama en si no es la gran cosa pero tampoco aburre, es interesante ver cómo resuelven las situaciones en donde se ven superados por estos insectos en gran parte gracias a Mutsumi. La animación no está mal pero lo que si me molestó visualmente un poco fue el CGI de los insectos, no soy muy fan de las cosas en 3D que sean exageradas por lo que acá creo que se les fue un poco de las manos el diseño de estas criaturas. De resto está bastante decente y promedio todo. Al final es una película para aquellos que les gusta ver de todo solo para tener más conocimientos de las cosas que no son tan comerciales. Es un film corto, no llega a la hora y media. No es lo mejor que he visto pero sin dudas es super interesante.
