What would they be capable of in order to carry out revenge? - I sometimes ask myself this question as a fantasy game, and the truth is that the answer is far from clear, since it's impossible to know how we'll react to a particular event. Well, that's more or less what the story of this film is about: how a man with very specific abilities carries out a large-scale operation to find the perpetrators of a specific act. This is a film with a very interesting cast and a somewhat repetitive plot, but it still surprises and entertains the viewer.

> De que serían capaces por llevar a cabo una venganza? - a manera de juego fantasioso a veces me hago la pregunta y la verdad es que la respuesta no es nada clara ya que es imposible saber cómo vamos a reaccionar ante un determinado suceso. Pues de esto va más o menos la historia de este film, como un hombre con unas capacidades bien específicas lleva a cabo una operación a gran escala para dar con los culpables de un hecho determinado. Esta es una película con un elenco bien interesante y una trama un tanto repetida pero que de igual forma no deja de sorprender ni entretener al espectador.

Charlie Heller (Rami Malek) is a man with impressive skills, he is a data decoder, a cryptographer who works for the CIA. It is a job where emotions are not his strong suit, but since he is good at what he does, he sticks with it. One day his life takes a 180-degree turn when his wife is murdered in a terrorist attack in London, which leaves him deeply affected and with a great desire for justice at all costs. Desperate, he asks his superiors at the agency to set out to find the culprits, but they go around in circles and don't seem to have the best desire to act.

Heller is an extremely intelligent man, well above average, so he's able to foresee or anticipate the movements of others, which made him realize that no one would do anything, so he himself set out to hunt down the men after that attack. From here on, we see the entire path Charlie takes, a quite dangerous one, where he will push his mental and, obviously, physical capabilities to the limit. Revenge is the main driving force of the plot; the pain of feeling guilty for the loss of someone can be the trigger for seeking to do things that at a certain moment were unthinkable but now seem to be the only solutions.

> Heller es un tipo extremadamente inteligente, muy por encima de la media por lo que es capaz de prever o anticiparse a los movimientos de los demás lo que le hizo darse cuenta de que nadie haría nada por lo que él mismo se dispuso a dar caza con los hombres tras aquel atentado. A partir de acá veremos todo el camino que toma Charlie, uno bastante peligroso, en donde pondrá al límite sus capacidades mentales y obviamente físicas. La venganza es el motor principal de la trama, el dolor por sentirse culpable por la pérdida de alguien puede ser el detonante para buscar hacer cosas que es un momento determinado eran impensadas pero que ahora parece que son las únicas soluciones.

The plot itself is quite simple because from the beginning they make it clear which side all the protagonists will be on. There's no room for plot twists, and that's something I regret. Since there aren't many surprises, everything becomes linear and predictable. I'm sure that when you start watching the film, you'll know how everything will end. This doesn't mean the story is bad; it isn't. The ultimate goal of the film is to entertain, and The Amateur achieves this because Heller isn't the conventional character looking to kill everyone with blows and gunfire. Discovering what plan he'll devise to kill these people is the film's value.

> La trama en si es bastante simple porque desde el principio dejan bien claro el lado en el que estarán todos los protagonistas, no hay cabida para los plot twist y eso es algo que lamento que pase, al no haber muchas sorpresas todo se hace lineal y predecible. Estoy seguro de que al comenzar a ver el film van a saber como terminará todo. Esto no quiere decir que la historia sea mala, no lo es. It's a spy and conspiracy film, but the action isn't the main course; it's the intrigue. This is what always happens when high-ranking CIA officials are involved; it opens the door for shady things to go under the table. Now, can any of this be remotely believable? I don't deny that strange things happen in the highest echelons of government, but the idea of a man alone, armed only with his laptop, seeking to take down a criminal organization could be considered a bit of fiction. But hey, these movies aren't meant to be realistic, but rather to be fantasized about and pass the time.

> Es una película de espías y de conspiraciones pero la acción no es el plato principal, lo es la intriga. Es lo que siempre pasa cuando se involucran cargos muy altos de la CIA, dan pie a que cosas turbias pasen por debajo de la mesa. Ahora, algo de esto puede ser remotamente creíble? - no niego que pasen cosas raras en las altas esferas de los gobiernos pero que un hombre solo y únicamente con su laptop busque dar de baja a una organización criminal puede ser considerado un poco de ficción. Pero bueno, estas películas no están hechas para ser realistas sino para fantasear y pasar el tiempo.

Aside from Malek, who by the way I think does a pretty decent job, we have Laurence Fishburne, Jon Bernthal, Michael Stuhlbarg, Julianne Nicholson, etc. All great actors who give this drama a little more life. In short, it's a good movie, different from the action we're used to, and I think it's very enjoyable. I give it a 7.5/10. It's just over two hours long, but it's worth watching; it's very entertaining and captivating. I'll leave the trailer here.

> A parte de Malek, quien por cierto creo que lo hace bastante decente, tenemos a Laurence Fishburne, Jon Bernthal, Michael Stuhlbarg, Julianne Nicholson, etc. Todos grandes actores que le dan un poco más de vida a este drama. En fin, es una buena película, diferente a la acción de la que estamos acostumbrados y que creo que se disfruta mucho. Le doy un 7.5/10.
