Hello friends, good vibes to all.
> If there are successful film franchises, we can't help but talk about everything related to Jurassic World or, at the time, Jurassic Park. These are films that are known to gross an absurd amount of money, regardless of the visual quality—which is vital here—or the plot, which would translate into a total success. This new story had a budget of $180 million, and at the box office, they've already grossed over $800 million, which suggests we're looking at one of the saga's best hits. But is the film itself really as good as its numbers suggest? That's the debate.
> This takes place a few years after Jurassic World Domination. We have Zora (Scarlett Johansson), whose job it's unclear to me: mercenary, ex-agent, ex-military man, no idea. Along with a group of people, they head to the island where the Jurassic Park research center once stood to search for dinosaur DNA, which was abandoned there, with the goal of using it to create a heart medicine that's supposed to save many people. We're in a world where dinosaurs are dying because they couldn't adapt to the new urban ecosystem, so these remaining creatures are right there on that island in the middle of the equatorial zone, either to preserve them or because they're too dangerous (the product of experiments). > What about the plot? Well, it offers nothing new. It's one filled with every possible cliché we're tired of seeing. We have the all-powerful mercenary, the altruistic scientist who only cares about the beauty and well-being of the dinosaurs, the unscrupulous businessman who only seeks profit through money, the unprotected family with the little girl who's always left behind, and the secondary characters who slowly fall apart. On a story level, it has no weight; it doesn't show us anything relevant or necessary considering the entire saga. If the film hadn't been made, absolutely nothing would have happened. Given all this, I'm sure many of us already knew how it would all end, and that bothers me a little.
> I liked the nods to the original '93 film, and here we have the same screenwriter as that film, David Koepp. There are many scenes, shots, and passages that feel like flashbacks to the legendary Jurassic Park. I'm not comparing them because that would be sacrilege, but I do feel like they tried to capture the essence of the first film in this entire universe. For the work to be fully realized, I think there should have been a bit more suspense; I didn't perceive that here. There are moments of "tension," but they don't have the necessary force that surviving genetically altered dinosaurs warrants. > We're entering the most complicated terrain: the visuals. Gareth Edwards is no stranger to these types of films, where CGI capabilities must be put to the test. Films like Star Wars' Rogue One and Godzilla are some of his works, so one could expect something good. Personally, I didn't think the dinosaurs were a complete disaster; I've seen worse. Making these things and making them 100% realistic is extremely complicated. I think the part I enjoyed the most was where we saw the Quetzalcoatlus; I think those scenes were some of the best the film had to offer. Overall, the visuals may not be the best, but they certainly weren't the worst.
> In short, a film I give a 6.5/10. I feel like none of its characters stand out, despite the great cast: Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali, actors who have been nominated for several awards and even won Oscars. If you're a fan of the franchise, you'll enjoy it at times, but at other times, it'll seem like a waste of time. It's one of those films that has this strange duality. I'll leave the trailer below.
