I thought I'd share some pictures from summer vacation at a rental property. This time of year, everyone in Minnesota heads for lake homes and cabins. My family and my sister’s family (including my brother-in-law, @preparedwombat) rented a VRBO home for a long weekend. VRBO, in case you’re not familiar with it, stands for Vacation Rental By Owner, and is a very similar organization to AirBnB.
The place could hardly be called a “cabin.” It was really a luxury home!
There were 13 of us at the high point, and we needed sleeping quarters for all, with 5 couples and the rest singles, so we found a home with plenty of space and bedrooms. So let's start with those. The bedrooms were all nicely decorated, each with its own color scheme and decor.
There was even a king suite! It was amazing, with a huge walk-in shower, a jet tub, it's own little coffee center like a hotel, and other amenities. It went to the tallest couple! :)
Our room was charmingly decorated in seafaring décor.
Okay, now for the other spaces in this grand house!
There were so many places to sit, relax, chat, eat, and play games. My favorite room was a Victorian style sitting room, with dreamy yellow walls, charming décor and pretty, over-stuffed chairs. Several of us spent time in that room reading.
The living room was also wonderful, with plenty of comfy places for sitting. We had some very warm summer weather, so no fire was needed!
Another great space was the dining room, although we only played games in there. We ate all of our meals outside on the the big covered porch.
A few more spaces, including the front porch...
We really loved the kitchen, which was a fantastic space for making meals for a crowd.
You have to serve quite a lot of food for that size of a group! Here was the lunch spread.
And here's a group shot I managed to get by using panoramic mode. (The counter isn't really curved, as you can see in the kitchen picture above!)
As I mentioned, there was a big outdoor dining table on a covered porch. It was a great place for eating and chatting, and one night we even watched a movie projected onto a sheet. Wow, that took me back!
We did tons of active stuff while at "the cabin." The kids enjoyed playing card games and ping pong.
One night we played yard games.
We also brought bikes and kayaks, and there was a great trail nearby where people took walks, runs and bike rides. One day while biking around the area I came across some free vegetables. Of course I had to avail myself of one of them!
And the most fun of all was floating in a nearby lake, which was very refreshing on a hot afternoon! We brought tons of floating devices so everyone who wanted to could relax in the lake.
Thanks so much for visiting my blog! And thank you to @dswigle for hosting Market Friday!
