noun

1: a day when you can mix two or more words to form a new word that means something completely different than its root words freely and without judgment. 2: a signal to let your creativity and wordplay flow.

For the better part of last year, I've been doing a semi-regular weekly post that centered around portmanteaus. Some of you have already noticed that the posts have been in alphabetical order, and that it seemed like I have been building a lexicon of sorts.

You're not wrong.

Indeed, I have been busy building a dictionary of silly, yet somewhat thought provoking, words for the purpose of creating a repository that could serve as a future addendum to the English language.

One can dream...

I love the English language. I love it almost as much as I love my own native language. The thing I love most about it is how flexible the words are and that there's a lot of room to experiment with it. Sure, it's not the most complex language out there, but it's universally spoken enough to be considered ubiquitous.

I was supposed to be a linguist before life took me to a more scientific route. Even though I strayed from that path, the love for languages has always lingered with me. But, I digress.

This long delayed announcement regarding PortmanTuesdays is... you guessed it! A contest!

It has been said that no man can write a book alone. Well, erm... Technically, one person can write a book alone, but wouldn't it be fun to have something a whole community can build together?

Damnit! Pages! No book is made of only one page! Grr! I should've gone with that metaphor instead! Oh well, moving on!

For a whole year, I'm going to be running this PortmanTuesdays contest, so don't rush your entries. This contest is open for all and the rules are simple. Just think of an original portmanteau, supply at least two definitions to support it and post it in the comments section of this post. If you want to make a post about it, feel free to do so, just make sure to tag it with #portmantuesdays then paste a link of it in the comments section down below.

Acceptance Criteria: - The word must be original! - The comment with your portmanteau or link to you portmanteau should receive the approval (through replies) of at least three other people - Final decision would be up to me

Prizes: 1 STEEM per accepted portmanteau (It's not worth much now, but then again my net worth here isn't worth much either! Now, if this post would payout like a thousand dollars, then the prize would exponentially increase for sure!) Inclusion of your portmanteau with your credit on a future compilation for PortmanTuesdays

In the past, I've failed as a contest organizer, so I'm not expecting hundreds of entries. But, as my Year of Resilience has taught me, I shouldn't be discouraged by past failures. If you could resteem this to get the word out about the contest, that would be so awesome of you!

Additional notes: - Spam comments would receive a 100% flag - Keep it as clean as you can - Please be supportive of each other!

To get everyone started, here are links to my previous posts from A to Z: - affrontrunner - bridebery - cryptopography - dietribe - epervesce - flatterment - glamorouse - holidaze - integreat - juxtaproposition - kaleidoscoop - legendairy - malignaunt - nourishmeant - omniscent - promisecuous - quoroom - resuerection - snaccident - thrustworthy - underpcover - vorashoes - weighward - xenial killer - yeasterday - zeitguise

Whew! There you go!

So, just have fun with it! You have a whole year, so don't rush it. Or, do. You have an unlimited number of entries so you can make lots of entries and hope that most of them will stick.

Oh, and uh, one last thing... 3: a day you can celebrate the magnificence of Natalie Portman. Because, why not?
