Hello everyone. If you read my previous post about the picnic event on Fruska gora mountain, you could see that it is a zone of nature and a relaxed atmosphere that are more valuable than ever these days. This mountain and national park is located in Vojvodina, the northern province of Serbia and it is not only known for its amazing nature, but also for its historical landmarks that bear witness to old times.
High on Fruška gora, at the spot called Iriški venac, stands the Monument to freedom, one of the most striking landmarks in Vojvodina.
Built in 1951, this imposing memorial was designed to honor the fighters and victims of World War II. It commemorates the bravery of soldiers and citizens who resisted fascism.
The monument symbolizes freedom and at the same time carries some weight because of the sacrifice these people made in order for freedom to be achieved.
The monument itself rises from the hilltop, surrounded by the greenery and beauty of Fruška gora.
It has a massive stone structure and looks impressive and real, it conveys the feeling of freedom, but also pain of that time when you had to fight for freedom.
As you approach, you feel more and more respect for this place.
For me, standing there felt deeply moving. Looking at the engraved scenes, I was thinking about how it used to be compared to now.
I was thinking about the generations before us who faced all those war problems. And this monument ensures that their courage will never be forgotten.
At the same time, being with my children, watching them play on the nearby meadow, reminded me that freedom also means the simple joys of life.
Thank you for reading.
