Hello everyone. The last place I visited during my recent stay in Slovenia, on the way back home, was the village of Marija Gradec near Lasko.
Tucked away among the green hills, not far from Lasko, the village of Marija Gradec exudes peace, tradition, and spirituality.
What drew us in was a big church on a hill that looked like a castle, and we wanted to climb up and see the view from there.
That’s when we learned that this place is actually known for that Gothic church of Marija Gradec, which dominates the village and leaves a strong impression when you first see it.
The Church of Marija Gradec was built in the 14th century. Unfortunately, it was already closed when we arrived, but we took the opportunity to explore the surroundings a bit.
We parked next to a children’s playground, to the great delight of my kids, especially my son, who plays basketball and really loves the sport.
While they were playing, I took the chance to walk up to the hill where the church is located and take a closer look from the outside.
I was enchanted by the greenery and the well-kept yards all around. Every village in Slovenia is so neat and inviting, it makes you start to wonder what it would be like to live in such a peaceful and beautiful place. It’s completely different from the noise, crowds, and air of our city. Everything feels so much nicer here.
The path to the church leads through the silence of nature, and the view from the hilltop brings a sense of tranquility and connection to the past.
I felt truly wonderful once I reached the top and enjoyed the view of the Savinja River and the surrounding area. It was an incredibly calming scene.
Visiting Marija Gradec helped us slow down a bit and reminded us of the peace we often lose in the hustle and race against time. We took a small break from everyday life, breathed in the fresh air, and continued on our way home, back to Serbia.
Thank you for reading.
