Hello everyone,
This is a beautiful prompt to speak on, as so many people may feel they are getting it right in terms of handling their meals, but infact, they are way more than wrong.
It's important to note that food safety isn't always about washing hands before and after cooking or eating. It entails so much more than this. For example, there are people who find it normal and comfortable to wash their mouths in the kitchen sink, either before eating, or after eating. Now, according to research, a single human mouth contains about 6 billion bacterias, and out of these great number, only 700 has been identified, leaving the rest unknown, probably more dangerous than the ones identified. Also, it has been said that dirty dishes, washing sponges, and leftovers contain more bacterias than the ones in the mouth.
So imagine introducing over 6 billion germs into a sink that already has more germs than this, what do you think will happen?
This causes cross-contamination, and when this germs that has come together touch the kitchen surfaces, they can easily infect our meals, thereby causing food poisoning. Always remember to sanitize your kitchen, and kitchen items regularly.
Also, it has become a common practice among most people to introduce salt and pepper to food that has shown signs of spoilage.
Note that pepper and salt contains some antimicrobial properties, but their effect is only limited to certain bacterium, especially when spoilt food is concerned.
For instance, if a meal becomes contaminated with CLOSTRIDIUM BOTULINUM bacteria, no amount of heat, salt or pepper can destroy it. This bacteria, and many others can be dangerous, and even life-threatening, but yet, probably because our forefathers used this method, we tend to follow in their footstep, thereby violating the laws guiding food safety, and endangering ourselves.
When a meal turns sour, throw away immediately, and disinfect the dishes or pots used for it.
Personal hygiene is a good factor in food safety, but ignorance to other details can lead to harm as well.
Let us all practice food safety, and stay safe.

Ignorance isn't an excuse when health is concerned.
