Trip south honoring my Revolutionary War ancestors.

We, descendants of the heroes of the American Revolution who, by their sacrifices, established the United States of America, reaffirm our faith in the principles of liberty and our Constitutional Republic, and solemnly pledge ourselves to defend them against every foe. source

Beginning on Saturday, I drove from Atlanta to Metter where I had rented a room. // On Sunday, there was a ceremony at my family cemetery to honor my ancestor Simon Smith (among others) who fought in the American Revolutionary War https://vimeo.com/1126826830?share=copy

Simon Smith b. circa 1754/58 d. 1827

Simon Smith, who was born in North Carolina about 1754/58 (records differ), was a soldier of the American Revolution.
He was enlisted to serve under Elijah Clarke as Sergeant in a Battalion of Minutemen, raised for defense of the State of Georgia.
However, at the time of his enlistment he was not a resident of this state. As a veteran of the Revolutionary War, he received land grants in Troup, Screven and Tattnall Counties.
His grants in Tattnall were on Bull Creek (currently Evans County). He is listed in the 1824 Tax Digest of Tattnall County. Mary Simon Smith married Mary (maiden name unknown).
She was born about 1760 and married him about 1779.
She died in 1830.
They came to Georgia about 1780 and settled in Screven County.
They came to Tattnall County after the taking of the 1820 census and before 1823. He died in Tattnall County in 1827. Simon and Mary had the following children: i.James Smith (my direct ancestor) ii.Ellender Smith iii.Mary Smith iv.Rebecca Smith

So my service in the Air Force was just a link in the chain of my Family Military service legacy.
