Hello everyone, welcome once again to these reviews, today I am very excited to bring you a new review, this time, I want to talk to you about an incredible anime, it's called A Place Further Than the Universe – or Sora yori mo Tooi Basho if you want the Japanese version… seriously, the idea sounds almost ridiculously simple, it's about a group of school girls who decide they want to go to Antarctica… yes, you read that right, Antarctica! It's not like going to the beach for a weekend, but that simplicity is precisely what makes it work so, so well, it's not about saving the world or giant robot fights; it's this super personal story that grabs you with the pure dreams and desires of these four girls… it's one of those series that reminds you why you love anime, you know?
The story starts by focusing on Mari Tamaki – Kimari, as her friends call her… she has that very, very familiar feeling, which I think we’ve all had, especially when we were younger, that of “Is this really it? Am I just going to let my youth slip away without doing anything?”… one day she wakes up and has this mini existential crisis, realizing that she hasn’t done anything worth remembering, nothing she dreamed of. She’s stuck in a rut, afraid to take the first step… how I really identified with that. Then, BOOM! By pure chance she runs into Shirase Kobuchizawa, Shirase is this intense girl, super focused on a single goal, almost obsessed: reaching Antarctica, she has her personal reasons, from her past, which I won’t spoil for you, but believe me, her drive is super powerful.
Kimari, seeing Shirase’s strength, sort of hangs onto her dream as if it were THE crazy adventure she needed… and honestly, seeing Kimari make up her mind and just go for it is inspiring. Along the way, two other girls join this half-impossible mission, each with their own baggage and their own reasons for wanting to take this crazy trip. Now, mind you, the series does give Kimari and Shirase a little more camera and focus, they feel like the main duo. Buuuut, and this is key – the other two aren’t filler or anything like that, the anime does a good job developing the four of them… each one has their moments, even dedicated chapters that delve into their stories, their insecurities… making you really care about them and connect with the whole group.
>Hola a todos, bienvenidos una vez más a estas reseñas, hoy vengo con mucha emoción a traerles una nueva reseña, en esta ocasión, les quiero hablar de un anime increíble, se llama A Place Further Than the Universe – o Sora yori mo Tooi Basho siquieren el japonés.. en serio, la idea suena casi ridículamente simple, trata de un grupo de chicas de la escuela que deciden que quieren ir a la Antártida.. sí, leyeron bien, ¡la Antártida! No es como irse un finde a la playa, pero justo esa simpleza es lo que hace que funcione tan, tan bien, no va de salvar el mundo ni de peleas de robots gigantes; es esta historia súper personal que te atrapa por los puros sueños y ganas de estas cuatro chicas.. es de esas series que te acuerdan por qué amas el anime, ¿saben?
La historia arranca enfocándose en Mari Tamaki – Kimari, le dicen sus amigas.. tiene esa sensación tan, tan conocida, que creo que a todos nos ha dado, sobre todo de más jóvenes, esa de "¿Verdad esto es todo? ¿Voy a dejar que se me vaya la juventud sin hacer nada?".. un día se despierta y le da esta mini crisis existencial, dándose cuenta de que no ha hecho nada que valga la pena recordar, nada de lo que soñaba. Está atorada en la rutina, con miedo de dar el primer paso.. cómo me identifiqué con eso, de verdad. Entonces, ¡PUM! Por pura casualidad se topa con Shirase Kobuchizawa, Shirase es esta chica intensísima, súper enfocada en una sola meta, casi obsesionada: llegar a la Antártida, tiene sus razones personales, de su pasado, que no les voy a spoilear, pero créanme, su motor es súper potente.
Kimari, al ver esa fuerza de Shirase, como que se cuelga de su sueño como si fuera LA aventura loca que necesitaba.. y honestamente, ver a Kimari decidirse y simplemente aventarse es inspirador, en el camino, otras dos chicas se suman a esta misión medio imposible, cada una con su propio equipaje y sus porqués para querer hacer este viaje loquísimo. Ahora, ojo, eh, la serie sí le da un poquito más de cámara y enfoque a Kimari y Shirase, se sienten como la dupla principal. Peeeeero, y esto es clave – las otras dos no son relleno ni nada por el estilo, el anime hace un trabajo bueno desarrollándolas a las cuatro.. cada una tiene sus momentos, hasta capítulos dedicados que se clavan en sus historias, sus inseguridades... haciendo que de verdad te importen y conectes con todo el grupo. ---  [Imagen Source](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/76059/images/backdrops) --- And you know what the best part is? They feel so real, they act just like real teenagers, they get paralyzed by self-doubt, they fight over silly things, ridiculous things happen to them—there's a whole thing about a lost passport that stresses you out and makes you laugh at the same time!—and then suddenly they have fits of laughter that they can't stop... they're so funny, kind of clumsy, and you really grow fond of them. It's like a breath of fresh air because they're not your typical cookie-cutter characters; they seem like real girls dealing with their friendships, their fears, and they're always very much themselves, very much women, in a way that feels authentic, not like someone just guessing what teenagers are like. The director, Atsuko Ishizuka – who, believe it or not, is the same one from No Game No Life, although this feels much more down-to-earth, more real – really has a knack for capturing those little details, those personal moments that make the characters feel so real! Now, if we talk about the technical side... this series is beautiful, people! The animation is by Madhouse, and it shows, it's simply excellent. The designs of the girls are super cool, very youthful, they fit the story perfectly, the animation stays super good throughout the 13 chapters. Yes, there is some CG in there, especially for things like the icebreaker ship or maybe some buildings in the background, but the truth is it's quite well done, it doesn't throw you off or distract you too much, but what really blew my mind was the photography and the lighting... wow, what a level! It's outstanding, the landscapes, especially when they get close to Antarctica, are something impressive! They use light in a super effective way... it's not just to make it look pretty, which it sure does!, but they use it to give more strength to the environment and even to tell things about the characters. It's one of those things I love, when the visual not only shows you what's happening, but also adds more depth to the story. >¿Y saben qué es lo mejor de todo? Que se sienten súper reales, actúan tal cual como lo harían unas adolescentes de verdad, les entra la duda que te paraliza, se pelean por tonterías, les pasan cosas súper ridículas – ¡hay toda una onda con un pasaporte perdido que te estresa y te da risa al mismo tiempo! – y de repente les dan ataques de risa que no pueden parar.. son súper divertidas, medio torpes, y de verdad que les agarras cariño, es como un aire fresco porque no son los típicos personajes de molde; parecen chicas reales lidiando con sus amistades, sus miedos, y siempre muy ellas, muy mujeres, de una forma que se siente auténtica, no como si alguien nomás adivinara cómo son las adolescentes.
La directora, Atsuko Ishizuka – que, créanlo o no, es la misma de No Game No Life, aunque esto se siente mucho más pegado a la tierra, más real – neta que tiene un don para cachar esos detallitos, esos momentos personales que hacen que los personajes se sientan ¡tan de verdad!.. ahora, si hablamos de lo técnico... ¡esta serie es preciosa, gente! La animación es de Madhouse, y se nota, es simplemente excelente.. los diseños de las chicas están súper chidos, muy juveniles, le quedan perfecto a la historia, la animación se mantiene súper bien durante los 13 capítulos.
Sí, hay algo de CG por ahí, sobre todo para cosas como el barco rompehielos o chance algunos edificios de fondo, pero la verdad está bastante bien metido, no te saca de onda ni te distrae mucho, pero lo que de verdad me voló la cabeza fue la fotografía y la iluminación.. no manches, qué nivel! Es sobresaliente, los paisajes, sobre todo cuando ya andan cerca de la Antártida, son una cosa ¡impresionante! Usan la luz de una forma súper efectiva.. no es nada más para que se vea bonito, que ¡vaya que se ve!, sino que la usan para darle más fuerza al ambiente e incluso para contar cosas de los personajes, es de esas cosas que me encantan, cuando lo visual no solo te muestra qué pasa, sino que le mete más profundidad a la historia. ---  [Image Source](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/76059/season/1/episode/2/images/backdrops) --- You might notice that sometimes the characters have a little white border, a little shine, especially with those detailed backgrounds... at first you think "what's up, is this a mistake or something?" but no... it seems like it's on purpose, they did it to make it look like the light is hitting them, so they stand out more from the background... it's a style of thing to make you focus on them and, honestly, now that you know it, it works! It gives everything a kind of fiery vibe, but without going overboard. The series is, without a doubt, a slice-of-life, and it fully embraces that, it also has its touches of comedy, and it's a series that digs into the emotional journey of the characters, a lot of the time, like any big trip, they don't have a thousand things going on, they're just figuring out how the hell they're going to even get on the expedition, scrounging for money, dealing with parents or friends who think they're crazy, making contacts, or just... waiting. There are times when the pace slows down, where it feels kind of... normal, like everyday life, normally, in other slice-of-life shows, that can get boring quickly, right? Remember K-On! when they talked about starting a band but spent half the time eating cake? Which is fine, but A Place Further Than the Universe uses those moments that seem 'boring' in a super effective way! It uses them to its advantage... because that's what a real trip is like, especially one as crazy as this one! It's not all about drama and excitement, it's about planning, it's about the stumbles, the long journeys, the waiting, solving problems like needing special equipment or how to get along in the group, all of that! The series makes these more normal parts part of the adventure, reflecting how things really are, and since you're already connected to the girls and their goal, it never feels like filler, the story keeps moving forward and keeps you glued because the truth is you support it with everything you have to overcome those little everyday things. The series really moves forward, they're always on the way to Antarctica, okay, let's talk about emotions. This anime plays with your feelings, it almost always has this optimistic, funny, hopeful, and good-vibe vibe, but suddenly, boom! It unleashes moments of true sadness, with a strong emotional weight... there are scenes that just catch you by surprise and tear you apart... but in a good way! It touches on some deep themes without being a teacher or feeling like a big deal, it talks about daring to face the unknown, about finding the courage to take that first, hard step towards something different... it talks about facing your past, about realizing that time is running out, and about dealing with those dreams that you put aside because they seemed impossible. >Tal vez notan que a veces los personajes tienen como un bordecito blanco, un brillito, sobre todo con esos fondos tan detallados.. al principio piensas "¿qué onda, es un error o qué?", pero no.. parece que es a propósito, lo hicieron para que parezca como la luz les pega, para que resalten más del fondo.. es una onda del estilo para que te enfoques en ellas y, la neta, ya que lo sabes, ¡funciona! Le da a todo como una vibra así prendida, pero sin pasarse de lanza. La serie es, sin duda, un slice-of-life, y le entra con todo a eso, también tiene sus toques de comedia, y es una serie que se clava en el viaje emocional de los personajes, mucho del tiempo, como en cualquier viaje grande, pues no están pasando mil cosas, están viendo cómo diablos le hacen para siquiera meterse a la expedición, buscando dinero como locas, lidiando con los papás o los amigos que creen que están locas, haciendo contactos, o simplemente... esperando.
Hay ratos en que el ritmo baja, donde se siente medio... normalito, del día a día, normalmente, en otros slice-of-life, eso puede aburrir rápido, ¿no? ¿Se acuerdan de K-On! que hablaban de armar una banda pero se la pasaban comiendo pastel la mitad del tiempo? Que está bien, pero A Place Further Than the Universe usa esos momentos que parecen 'aburridos' de una forma súper efectiva!, los usa a su favor.. porque así es un viaje de verdad, y más uno tan loco como este! No todo es drama y emoción al máximo, es planear, son los tropezones, los ratos largos de viaje, la espera, resolver problemas como necesitar equipo especial o cómo llevarse bien en el grupo, ¡todo eso! La serie hace que estas partes más normales sean parte de la aventura, reflejando cómo son las cosas de verdad, y como ya estás conectado con las chicas y su meta, nunca se siente como relleno, la historia sigue avanzando y te mantiene pegado porque la verdad la apoyas con todo para que superen esas cositas del día a día.
La serie de verdad avanza, siempre van camino a la Antártida, ok, hablemos de las emociones. Este anime juega con tus sentimientos, casi siempre tiene esta onda optimista, chistosa, llena de esperanza y buena vibra, pero de repente, ¡pum!, te suelta momentos de tristeza de verdad, con un peso emocional fuerte.. hay escenas que nomás te agarran de sorpresa y te hacen pedazos... ¡pero en el buen sentido! Toca unos temas profundos sin ponerse acá de maestro ni sentirse la gran cosa, habla de atreverse a enfrentar lo desconocido, de encontrar el valor para dar ese primer paso que cuesta un montón hacia algo diferente.. habla de enfrentar tu pasado, de darte cuenta que el tiempo se va, y de lidiar con esos sueños que dejaste guardados porque parecían imposibles. ---  [Image Source](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/76059/season/1/episode/3/images/backdrops) --- And there’s that wave, like that underlying current, of the teenage existential crisis... that feeling of 'what the hell am I doing with my life?'.. that doubt that eats you up inside about the future, about who you are, what you want, the series connects really well with that, right? It unites that feeling right with the experience of the journey... it suggests to you that maybe venturing into something difficult, something new, is a way of discovering things... or at least, of growing, the truth is, it connected a lot with me, it made me think about those moments when I’ve felt lost, or when I needed a change no matter what, you know? An adventure that will shake you up... it’s like that feeling when you finally decide to do something that scares you, like going to live somewhere else or starting a big project... the fear is there, of course, but what you can discover is huge! Buuuut, I do have a small complaint, a little detail... sometimes, I feel like it puts too much emphasis on the sad moments, like I felt like almost every episode had to have its crying scene... when you do that too often, that contrast between the normal good vibes and the sudden sadness can feel a little forced, maybe a touch melodramatic, and well, you run the risk of it not hitting you as much anymore because you've come to expect it. But that's just a small thing, if we look at everything else... this anime just makes you want to live! It fills you with a crazy energy to go out and do something, to have your own adventures, small or big, you identify a lot with it, whether you're a teenager going through those doubts right now, or an adult looking back, thinking about those 'impossible dreams' that you kept hidden... It reminds you that it's okay to go after something just because you want to, even if it seems totally crazy! The bonds that form between the girls feel super genuine, well-earned, built on what they've experienced together and by opening up to each other... so, my rating? It really touched my heart and made me think about my own life, I'm going to give it a solid 9/10... it's not perfect, but what it leaves you emotionally is huge! And well, that's it for today's review, I hope you liked it, take care of yourselves, bye! >Y está esa onda, como esa corriente por debajo, de la crisis existencial adolescente... esa sensación de '¿qué diablos estoy haciendo con mi vida?'.. esa duda que te come por dentro sobre el futuro, sobre quién eres, qué quieres, la serie conecta súper bien con eso, ¿eh? Une ese sentimiento justo con la experiencia del viaje.. te sugiere que tal vez aventarte a hacer algo difícil, algo nuevo, es una forma de descubrir cosas... o por lo menos, de crecer, la verdad, conectó un montón conmigo, me hizo pensar en esos momentos en que me he sentido perdido, o cuando necesitaba un cambio sí o sí, ¿saben? Una aventura para mover el piso.. es como esa sensación cuando por fin te decides a hacer algo que te da miedo, como irte a vivir a otro lado o empezar un proyecto grande... el miedo está ahí, claro, pero lo que puedes descubrir es ¡gigante!
Peeeero, sí tengo una pequeña queja, un detallito.. a veces, siento que como que se recarga demasiado en los momentos tristes, como que sentí que casi cada capítulo tenía que tener su escena para llorar.. cuando haces eso muy seguido, ese contraste entre la buena vibra normal y la tristeza de golpe puede sentirse un poco forzado, tal vez un toque melodramático, y pues, corres el riesgo de que ya no te pegue igual porque ya te la esperas. Pero eso es una cosita de nada, si vemos todo lo demás.. este anime nomás te da ganas de vivir! Te llena de una energía loca por salir y hacer algo, de tener tus propias aventuras, chiquitas o grandes, te identificas un montón, seas un chico adolescente pasando por esas dudas ahorita mismo, o ya un adulto viendo pa'trás, pensando en esos 'sueños imposibles' que dejaste guardados..
Te recuerda que está bien ir tras algo nomás porque quieres, ¡aunque parezca una locura total! Los lazos que se arman entre las chicas se sienten súper genuinos, bien ganados, construidos con lo que vivieron juntas y al abrirse una con la otra.. entonces, ¿mi calificación?.. de verdad me llegó al corazón y me dejó pensando en mi propia vida, le voy a dar un sólido 9/10.. n

Hay ratos en que el ritmo baja, donde se siente medio... normalito, del día a día, normalmente, en otros slice-of-life, eso puede aburrir rápido, ¿no? ¿Se acuerdan de K-On! que hablaban de armar una banda pero se la pasaban comiendo pastel la mitad del tiempo? Que está bien, pero A Place Further Than the Universe usa esos momentos que parecen 'aburridos' de una forma súper efectiva!, los usa a su favor.. porque así es un viaje de verdad, y más uno tan loco como este! No todo es drama y emoción al máximo, es planear, son los tropezones, los ratos largos de viaje, la espera, resolver problemas como necesitar equipo especial o cómo llevarse bien en el grupo, ¡todo eso! La serie hace que estas partes más normales sean parte de la aventura, reflejando cómo son las cosas de verdad, y como ya estás conectado con las chicas y su meta, nunca se siente como relleno, la historia sigue avanzando y te mantiene pegado porque la verdad la apoyas con todo para que superen esas cositas del día a día.
La serie de verdad avanza, siempre van camino a la Antártida, ok, hablemos de las emociones. Este anime juega con tus sentimientos, casi siempre tiene esta onda optimista, chistosa, llena de esperanza y buena vibra, pero de repente, ¡pum!, te suelta momentos de tristeza de verdad, con un peso emocional fuerte.. hay escenas que nomás te agarran de sorpresa y te hacen pedazos... ¡pero en el buen sentido! Toca unos temas profundos sin ponerse acá de maestro ni sentirse la gran cosa, habla de atreverse a enfrentar lo desconocido, de encontrar el valor para dar ese primer paso que cuesta un montón hacia algo diferente.. habla de enfrentar tu pasado, de darte cuenta que el tiempo se va, y de lidiar con esos sueños que dejaste guardados porque parecían imposibles. ---  [Image Source](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/76059/season/1/episode/3/images/backdrops) --- And there’s that wave, like that underlying current, of the teenage existential crisis... that feeling of 'what the hell am I doing with my life?'.. that doubt that eats you up inside about the future, about who you are, what you want, the series connects really well with that, right? It unites that feeling right with the experience of the journey... it suggests to you that maybe venturing into something difficult, something new, is a way of discovering things... or at least, of growing, the truth is, it connected a lot with me, it made me think about those moments when I’ve felt lost, or when I needed a change no matter what, you know? An adventure that will shake you up... it’s like that feeling when you finally decide to do something that scares you, like going to live somewhere else or starting a big project... the fear is there, of course, but what you can discover is huge! Buuuut, I do have a small complaint, a little detail... sometimes, I feel like it puts too much emphasis on the sad moments, like I felt like almost every episode had to have its crying scene... when you do that too often, that contrast between the normal good vibes and the sudden sadness can feel a little forced, maybe a touch melodramatic, and well, you run the risk of it not hitting you as much anymore because you've come to expect it. But that's just a small thing, if we look at everything else... this anime just makes you want to live! It fills you with a crazy energy to go out and do something, to have your own adventures, small or big, you identify a lot with it, whether you're a teenager going through those doubts right now, or an adult looking back, thinking about those 'impossible dreams' that you kept hidden... It reminds you that it's okay to go after something just because you want to, even if it seems totally crazy! The bonds that form between the girls feel super genuine, well-earned, built on what they've experienced together and by opening up to each other... so, my rating? It really touched my heart and made me think about my own life, I'm going to give it a solid 9/10... it's not perfect, but what it leaves you emotionally is huge! And well, that's it for today's review, I hope you liked it, take care of yourselves, bye! >Y está esa onda, como esa corriente por debajo, de la crisis existencial adolescente... esa sensación de '¿qué diablos estoy haciendo con mi vida?'.. esa duda que te come por dentro sobre el futuro, sobre quién eres, qué quieres, la serie conecta súper bien con eso, ¿eh? Une ese sentimiento justo con la experiencia del viaje.. te sugiere que tal vez aventarte a hacer algo difícil, algo nuevo, es una forma de descubrir cosas... o por lo menos, de crecer, la verdad, conectó un montón conmigo, me hizo pensar en esos momentos en que me he sentido perdido, o cuando necesitaba un cambio sí o sí, ¿saben? Una aventura para mover el piso.. es como esa sensación cuando por fin te decides a hacer algo que te da miedo, como irte a vivir a otro lado o empezar un proyecto grande... el miedo está ahí, claro, pero lo que puedes descubrir es ¡gigante!
Peeeero, sí tengo una pequeña queja, un detallito.. a veces, siento que como que se recarga demasiado en los momentos tristes, como que sentí que casi cada capítulo tenía que tener su escena para llorar.. cuando haces eso muy seguido, ese contraste entre la buena vibra normal y la tristeza de golpe puede sentirse un poco forzado, tal vez un toque melodramático, y pues, corres el riesgo de que ya no te pegue igual porque ya te la esperas. Pero eso es una cosita de nada, si vemos todo lo demás.. este anime nomás te da ganas de vivir! Te llena de una energía loca por salir y hacer algo, de tener tus propias aventuras, chiquitas o grandes, te identificas un montón, seas un chico adolescente pasando por esas dudas ahorita mismo, o ya un adulto viendo pa'trás, pensando en esos 'sueños imposibles' que dejaste guardados..
Te recuerda que está bien ir tras algo nomás porque quieres, ¡aunque parezca una locura total! Los lazos que se arman entre las chicas se sienten súper genuinos, bien ganados, construidos con lo que vivieron juntas y al abrirse una con la otra.. entonces, ¿mi calificación?.. de verdad me llegó al corazón y me dejó pensando en mi propia vida, le voy a dar un sólido 9/10.. n
