This time I want to share with you all a new review with my personal opinions of a really great book, it's Belladonna by Adalyn Grace... seriously, the cover is crazy cool, it quickly grabs you with that dark vibe. As we get into the story, we follow Signa. Look, the poor thing has had it tough... she's nineteen, an orphan since she was a baby, and she's been through a long line of guardians... the gruesome detail? That each one has died before their time... a pretty shady pattern, huh? And all this while she's about to inherit a lot of money when she turns twenty... but what really hooks you, what I really liked, is Signa's unique ability: she can see spirits... and not just any little ghost, mind you! She can see, and even talk to, Death HIMSELF, yes, just as you hear it, Death is a real, flesh and blood character in this book... let me tell you, Death as a character is, quite simply, the most powerful and original thing she has... she’s not just an idea floating around, no way! She’s a real, constant presence in Signa’s life, and she’s painted as someone fascinating but, watch out!, extremely dangerous... their interactions are the soul of the story, and that connection that grows between them... is complicated, it’s intense, and yes, my friends, it’s boiling with a romantic tension that wow, it’s the kind of dynamic that has caused a huge stir among readers, especially because of the fact that he’s like mega-ancestral and she’s, well, a young girl... I honestly found it fascinating, although I can totally understand why some might find it jarring. And yes, for the curious, things get a little spicy: there's a scene we could call "Open Door" later on, so keep it on your radar if it's something you'd rather know about in advance. >Hola a todos, amigos de Hive Book Club, espero que estén super bien hoy, en esta ocasión les quiero compartir a todos ustedes una nueva reseña con mis opiniones personales de un libro muy bueno, se trata de: Belladonna, de Adalyn Grace.. en serio, la portada es una cosa de locos, te atrapa rápido con esa vibra oscura, ya metiéndonos en la historia, seguimos a Signa, que miren, a la pobre le ha tocado duro.. tiene diecinueve años, huérfana desde bebita y ha pasado por una fila larguísima de tutores.. el detallito macabro? Que cada uno se le ha ido muriendo antes de tiempo.. un patrón bastante turbio, ¿no? y todo esto mientras ella está a nada de heredar mucho dinero cuando cumpla los veinte.. pero lo que de verdad te engancha, lo que a mí me gustó mucho es la habilidad única de Signa: puede ver espíritus.. y no cualquier fantasmita, ¡eh!
Puede ver, e incluso hablar, con la MISMÍSIMA Muerte, sí, así como lo oyen, la Muerte es un personaje de carne y hueso en este libro.. déjenme decirles que la Muerte como personaje es, fácil, lo más potente y original que tiene.. no es una idea ahí flotando, ¡qué va! Es una presencia real, constante en la vida de Signa, y la pintan como alguien fascinante pero, ¡ojo!, peligrosísimo.. sus interacciones son el alma de la historia, y esa conexión que va creciendo entre ellos… es complicada, es intensa, y sí, amigos, hierve con una tensión romántica que wow, es el tipo de dinámica que ha armado un revuelo bárbaro entre los lectores, sobre todo por el tema de que él es como mega ancestral y ella, pues, una jovencita.. a mí, la verdad, me pareció fascinante, aunque entiendo perfecto por qué a algunos les podría hacer ruido. Y sí, para los curiosos, la cosa se pone picantita: hay una escena que podríamos llamar "Open Door", de esas de puerta abierta, más adelante, así que ténganlo en el radar si es algo que prefieren saber de antemano. ---  Image generated with FLUX. Improved with KREA. --- Let’s see, the place where it all happens, Thorn Grove, is GOTHIC with a capital G. Adalyn Grace really nails the atmosphere. From the moment Signa steps into that mansion, which is enormous but falling apart, you feel that dense air, full of death, a sadness that won’t go away, as if everything is rotting. She describes it so well that it’s as if you were there, walking through those dark corridors with Signa. I swear, it reminded me totally of those gothic novels from before, and I was fascinated. Grace’s way of writing helps a lot to immerse you in this world. It’s super descriptive, sometimes she even goes a little overboard, but in general the story progresses great and draws you deeper and deeper into the mystery. The interesting thing is that the book mixes this whole fantasy vibe well – Signa’s powers, Death being present – ​​with a classic murder mystery. When Signa arrives at Thorn Grove, she learns that the owner of the house, Lillian, recently died, and her daughter, Blythe, has the same rare disease... and hold on, because Lillian's ghost appears to Signa and tells her that she was poisoned, and that the murderer is still in the house, now after Blythe! So Signa starts investigating... a premise that grabs you right away and well, Signa's growth is a big part of the book. At first, obviously, she's isolated and distrustful because of everything that happened to her, but you see her evolve as she moves around this new and dangerous house, and she comes to accept her strange powers and her connection to Death... some secondary characters in the Hawthorne family are interesting, each with their own secrets and their ups and downs, although at times I would have liked to see a little more development for some of them, you know? The book also talks about things like grief, finding your place in the world, power and how it affects you... and I thought those themes were pretty well woven into the plot. For me, the BEST thing about it was Death as a character, the super dense gothic atmosphere that suffocates you, the uniqueness of Signa's powers, and the murder mystery itself had a couple of twists that kept me scratching my head, even when I thought I'd figured it out! >A ver, el lugar donde pasa todo, Thorn Grove, es GÓTICO con mayúsculas.. Adalyn Grace la rompe con la atmósfera, desde que Signa pisa esa mansión que es enorme, pero se está cayendo a pedazos, sientes ese aire denso, cargado de muerte, una tristeza que no se va y como que todo se está pudriendo, te lo describe tan bien que es como si estuvieras ahí, caminando por esos pasillos oscuros con Signa. Les juro, me recordó full a esas novelas góticas de antes, y eso me fascinó.. la forma de escribir de Grace ayuda un montón a meterte de lleno en este mundo, es súper descriptiva, a veces hasta se pasa un poquito, pero en general la historia avanza genial y te va metiendo más y más en el misterio.. y lo interesante es que el libro mezcla bien toda esta onda de fantasía –los poderes de Signa, la Muerte ahí presente– con un misterio de asesinato de esos bien clásicos.
Cuando Signa llega a Thorn Grove, se entera de que la dueña de casa, Lillian, se murió hace poco, y su hija, Blythe, tiene la misma enfermedad rara.. y agárrense, porque el fantasma de Lillian se le aparece a Signa y le dice que la envenenaron, y que el asesino sigue en la casa, ahora detrás de Blythe! Así que Signa se pone a investigar.. una premisa que te atrapa de una y bueno, el crecimiento de Signa es gran parte del libro. Al principio, obvio, está aislada y desconfiada por todo lo que le pasó, pero la ves evolucionar mientras se mueve por esta casa nueva y peligrosa, y va aceptando sus poderes raros y su conexión con la Muerte.. algunos personajes secundarios de la familia Hawthorne son interesantes, cada uno con sus secretos y sus bajones, aunque por momentos me hubiera gustado que les dieran un poquito más de desarrollo a algunos, ¿saben?
El libro también habla de cosas como el duelo, cómo encontrar tu lugar en el mundo, el poder y cómo te afecta... y me pareció que esos temas están bastante bien metidos en la trama.. para mí, lo MEJOR de todo fue la Muerte como personaje, esa atmósfera gótica súper densa que te ahoga, y lo original de los poderes de Signa, y el misterio del asesinato en sí tuvo un par de vueltas de tuerca que me tuvieron rompiéndome la cabeza, ¡incluso cuando pensé que ya lo había sacado! --- Let's see, if I start looking for the "but", I would say that the rhythm sometimes slips a bit, there are parts that seemed a bit slow to me and others that, boom!, flew by... and look, the main romance catches you, there's no doubt, but sometimes I wanted them to go deeper into Signa's internal dramas, beyond her thing with Death, or to give a little more depth to how she's changing outside of that... Signa sometimes throws out the "I'm not like other girls" thing, or that she has half-conflicting ideas about her future and what society expects of her, it feels a bit forced, but to be honest, it didn't bother me that much, but I understand where the comment is coming from... it wasn't something that ruined the reading for me, not at all, just a little thing there. So, who is this book for? If you like gothic fantasy, dark and semi-depressing romance, a good old-fashioned murder mystery and a protagonist with unique supernatural connections, this book is for you... and well, I give Belladonna a good 4/5 stars, it's a read with an incredible atmosphere, super original, and with a main relationship that really grabs you, whether you like that kind of vibe or not... the world is well-crafted and the mystery hooks you in. Although there were some things that didn't make it a perfect 5 for me, it entertained me and had me fully engaged from beginning to end... the good news (or bad, if you hate open endings or waiting for sequels!) is that it leaves you with a ten to continue the story of Signa and Death, and the truth is, I'm curious to see where Adalyn Grace takes them... since there is another book after this one, and yes, if you are looking for a really loaded gothic fantasy, with a romance that convinces you but has its dangerous side, and a touch of "who was the murderer?", I highly recommend reading it, it is an interesting book... and well, that's it for today's review, see you in the next reviews! Bye! >A ver, si me pongo a buscarle el "pero", diría que el ritmo a veces como que patina un poco, hay partes que se me hicieron medio lentas y otras que, ¡zas!, pasaron volando.. y mira, el romance principal te atrapa, no hay duda, pero a veces me quedé con ganas de que se metieran más en los dramas internos de Signa, más allá de su onda con la Muerte, o que le dieran un poquito más de profundidad a cómo va cambiando ella por fuera de eso.. Signa a veces tira la de "yo no soy como las otras chicas", o que tiene ideas medio encontradas sobre su futuro y lo que la sociedad espera de ella, se siente un poco forzado, pero a mí, la verdad, no me hizo tanto ruido, pero entiendo de dónde viene el comentario.. no fue algo que me arruinara la lectura, pa' nada, solo una cosita ahí. Entonces, ¿para quién es este libro?
Si te gusta la fantasía gótica, el romance oscuro y medio depre, un buen misterio de asesinato a la antigua y una prota con conexiones sobrenaturales únicas, este libro es para ti.. y bueno a Belladonna le pongo unas 4/5 estrellas bien puestas, es una lectura con una atmósfera increíble, súper original, y con una relación principal que te atrapa mal, te guste o no ese tipo de onda.. el mundo está bien armado y el misterio te engancha. Aunque hubo cositas que no lo hicieron un 5 perfecto para mí, me entretuvo y me tuvo metido de lleno de principio a fin.. la buena noticia (¡o mala, si odian los finales abiertos o esperar las continuaciones!) es que, te deja todo servido de diez para seguir con la historia de Signa y la Muerte, y la verdad, me pica la curiosidad ver para dónde los lleva Adalyn Grace.. ya que hay otro libro después de este, y sí que sí, si andan con ganas de una fantasía gótica bien cargadita, con un romance que te convence pero tiene su lado peligroso, y un toque de "¿quién fue el asesino?", les recontra recomiendo leerlo, es un libro que es interesante.. y bueno, hasta aquí la reseña de hoy, nos vemos en las próximas reseñas!
