It's an idea that's super crazy, fascinating but also kind of creepy, and the truth is that it grabbed me by the breath and left me wondering what I would do in her shoes. Obviously, her head starts spinning: will this be the right one? The definitive one? THE FOREVER ONE? This turns everything upside down, her entire framework for understanding love... seeing her dealing with that opportunity, with that vibe of not knowing when it will end, was super captivating... let's see, let's talk about Daphne. She's a character with her twists and turns, and not just because of the magic notes. She has a best friend, Hugo, and the vibe between them is KEY to the story. He's the only one who knows about the notes. Imagine the trust they have! Pero no cualquier nota, estas te dicen con quién vas a salir después y, ¡ojo acá!, cuánto va a durar EXACTO esa relación.. seis meses con un tal Josh? Dale. ¿Tres semanitas con Mark? Listo, ya está.. bueno, esa es la vida de Daphne, la prota, toda su vida amorosa ha sido así, guiada –o más bien, atormentada– por estas predicciones.. aunque ella ha intentado hacerse la loca, ignorarlas, pelearles... ¡siempre, SIEMPRE se cumplen! Es una idea que es súper loca, fascinante pero medio creepy también, y la verdad que me agarró de una y me dejó pensando qué haría yo en sus zapatos.
La cosa se pone buena de verdad cuando Daphne recibe una nota nueva, pero esta es distinta.. solo dice «Jake». ¡Sin tiempo límite, sin fecha de vencimiento! Obvio, la cabeza le empieza a dar mil vueltas: ¿será este el bueno? ¿El definitivo? ¿EL PARA SIEMPRE? Esto le da vuelta todo, todo su esquema para entender el amor.. verla a ella lidiando con esa oportunidad, con esa onda de no saber cuándo termina la cosa, fue súper atrapante.. a ver, hablemos de Daphne. Es un personaje con sus vueltas, y no solo por las notitas mágicas, tiene un mejor amigo, Hugo, y la onda entre ellos es CLAVE en la historia, él es el único que sabe de las notas, ¡imagínense la confianza! Relationships, if she gets married, if she can have children... well, everything... the author, Serle, handles it with a sensitivity that makes Daphne's internal struggles and the decisions she makes hit you even harder... there you understand why she doubts so much, why she takes care of her heart with nails and teeth, literally and also in the sense of not wanting to be hurt, the writing style is Rebecca Serle's, it is super fluid, it reaches your soul and makes you feel inside Daphne's head. The story goes back and forth quietly, between what Daphne lives with Jake in the present and her memories of past relationships, showing you how those little notes were marking her... I loved spying on those moments of her past; I swear, that's when you finally understand how much these predictions influenced her life. The emotional side of the story is a bomb, and you really suffer with Daphne as she navigates everything she's feeling and the complicated situations that confront her... one of the big themes here is, without a doubt, whether we choose our path or if everything is already written, the famous free will versus destiny. Are Daphne's relationships already written or does she have something to say? That question stays with you throughout the book... and then, HOLD ON!, there's a twist in the plot, but what a twist! Brilliant and unexpected! With that undated note about Jake... I'm not going to spoil the surprise, but when you find out who wrote it and why... it was an "Aaaaaah, no wonder!" moment! It turns a lot of what you thought upside down and pushes Daphne to take a personal leap forward... it's about her learning to stop relying on these outside predictions and starting to embrace not knowing what's going to happen, making her own decisions. >Y para sumarle más capas a Daphne, y a toda la historia, resulta que está chica tiene un problema del corazón bastante importante, esto no es un detallito nomás, ¡le cambia TODA la forma de ver las cosas! Las relaciones, si se casa, si puede tener hijos... onda, todo.. la autora, Serle, lo maneja con una sensibilidad que, hace que las luchas internas de Daphne y las decisiones que toma te peguen todavía más fuerte.. ahí entiendes por qué duda tanto, por qué se cuida el corazón con uñas y dientes, literal y también en el sentido de no querer que la lastimen, el estilo de escritura es el de Rebecca Serle, es súper fluido, te llega al alma y hace que te sientas adentro de la cabeza de Daphne. La historia va y viene tranqui, entre lo que vive Daphne con Jake en el presente y sus recuerdos de relaciones pasadas, mostrándote cómo esas notitas la fueron marcando.. a mí me encantó espiar esos momentos de su pasado; te juro que ahí terminas de entender cuánto estas predicciones le manejaron la vida.
La parte emocional de la historia es una bomba, y posta que sufrís con Daphne mientras navega todo lo que siente y las situaciones complicadas que le tocan.. uno de los grandes temas acá es, sin dudas, eso de si elegimos nuestro camino o si ya está todo escrito, el famoso libre albedrío contra el destino. ¿Las relaciones de Daphne ya están cantadas o ella tiene algo que decir? Esa pregunta te queda dando vueltas todo el libro.. y después, ¡AGÁRRENSE!, hay un giro en la trama, pero ¡qué giro! Brillante e inesperado! con esa nota sin fecha sobre Jake.. no les voy a quemar la sorpresa, pero cuando te enteras quién la escribió y por que.. fue un momento de ¡Aaaaaah, con razón! Te da vuelta mucho de lo que pensabas y la empuja a Daphne a pegar un estirón personal.. se trata de que ella aprenda a dejar de depender de estas predicciones de afuera y empiece a abrazar el no saber qué va a pasar, tomando sus propias decisiones. ---  Created with Canva Pro. Daphne makes some important decisions about her love future, and her whole vibe with the notes changes a lot... there's a symbolic moment, it's a wow! powerful image of how she lets go of everything and takes charge of her own power... Expiration Dates is a book that makes you think and moves things inside, it gives you a different look at relationships, destiny, and how important it is to love yourself and make your own path... it's not your typical romance, right? It goes deeper, I give it a good 4/5 stars, it made me feel things, and the main idea was too captivating... I highly recommend it if you're looking for a romance that's a little out of the ordinary, something that makes you think about how we make decisions in love and in life, and well... that would be all for today, see you in the next reviews! Bye! >A ver, si le tengo que buscar algo que no me gustó, quizás en algún momento se me hizo un toque largo el foco en UNA relación, como que quería volver a ver qué pasaba con los otros..pero es una bobada, porque el viaje de Daphne es lo principal.. lo que más me gustó fue la idea original, lo profundo que es el personaje de Daphne, ¡especialmente con todo su tema de salud!, y cómo la historia te muestra qué onda con eso de elegir de verdad a alguien... y elegirse a uno mismo, el final, me pareció que cerró bárbaro. Daphne toma unas decisiones importantes sobre su futuro amoroso, y toda su onda con las notas cambia un montón.. hay un momento simbólico, es una imagen ¡uf!, potente, de cómo ella suelta todo y se hace cargo de su propio poder..
Expiration Dates es un libro que te deja pensando y te mueve cosas por dentro, te da una mirada distinta sobre las relaciones, el destino, y lo importante que es quererse a uno mismo y armar tu propio camino.. no es el típico romance y ya, ¿eh? Va más al fondo, le doy unas buenas 4/5 estrellas, me hizo sentir cosas, y la idea principal era demasiado atrapante.. se los mega recomiendo si andan buscando un romance que se salga un poco de lo común, algo que los deje pensando en cómo tomamos decisiones en el amor y en la vida, y bueno.. esto sería todo por hoy, nos veremos en las próximas reseñas!
