Hello everyone, I hope you're all doing great. Today I want to share a new review with all you anime fans. I'm going to talk about a series called Poco's Udon World, or well, the technical name is Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari... I started it kind of not knowing what to expect, maybe even wondering a little 'could I?' because you know how these slice-of-life series are, the ones you'll love, sometimes you don't, but wow! This one... this one really left me with something. Well, imagine: we meet Sota Tawara, our main character... a guy in his thirties, a web designer, living life in Tokyo, like normal, right? But things get complicated because his dad dies, and Sota has to return to his hometown, back in the countryside in Kagawa prefecture. His family owned a little udon shop there, kind of like the ones they've always had, you know? And Sota and his sister? They were already pretty set on selling the place, closing that chapter… it seems like Sota never really wanted to take over the family business, and it seems like that was a bit of a tense topic with his dad. I mean, we start off with a pretty strong emotional charge from the very beginning. He returns home, starts cleaning up the old, dusty restaurant, probably thinking about ads, how to sell it, and all that responsible adult stuff… and BAM! He finds a little boy hiding in the store, literally!, curled up in a ball sleeping among the pots or something… a lost boy X, Sota, who is a good person even though he’s kind of lost himself, thinks ‘well, I’ll take him to the police’… and this is where things get weird! and, honestly, adorable! Along the way, things happen – they pass by a temple, maybe talk to a monk – and Sota starts hearing legends about the place, specifically, about the tanuki. Let's see, if you don't know what they are, tanuki are like creatures from Japanese folklore. The series paints them as half-ghosts or goblins, mischievous spirits who like to play tricks on people. They're legends, like La Llorona (The Weeping Woman), imagine! To give you an idea of ​​the folklore, although, be careful! Tanuki are much more tender and less scary. Think more of a cool, shape-shifting raccoon-dog, or, as they say, a kind of fox spirit, something like that... Sota is probably thinking, "Aha, village tales," until he turns to look at the boy again and realizes... The boy suddenly grows furry ears and a tail! Yes! The boy isn't just any boy; he's a tanuki! >Hola a todos, espero que estén super bien, hoy quiero compartir una nueva reseña a todos ustedes fanáticos del anime, les hablaré de una serie que se llama Poco's Udon World, o bueno, el nombre técnico es Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari.. le entré medio sin saber qué esperar, tal vez hasta con un poquito de '¿será que sí?', porque ya saben cómo son estas series de la vida diaria, las 'slice-of-life', a veces agradan, a veces no, pero ¡wow!, esta… esta sí me dejó algo, bueno, imagínense: conocemos a Sota Tawara, nuestro prota.. un tipo como de treinta y tantos, diseñador web, viviendo la vida en Tokio, lo normal, ¿no? pero la cosa se complica porque su papá se muere, y Sota tiene que regresar a su pueblo, allá en la prefectura de Kagawa, en el campo, su familia tenía una tiendita de udon ahí, como de esas de toda la vida, ¿saben? ¿Y Sota y su hermana? Ya estaban bien decididos a vender el lugar, cerrar ese capítulo.. como que Sota nunca quiso realmente hacerse cargo del negocio familiar, y parece que eso era un tema ahí medio tenso con su papá.
O sea, ya empezamos con una carga emocional medio fuerte desde el principio, regresa a casa, empieza a limpiar el restaurante viejo y lleno de polvo, seguro pensando en anuncios, en cómo venderlo y todo ese rollo de adulto responsable… ¡y PUM! Que se encuentra a un niñito escondido en la tienda, ¡literal!, hecho bolita durmiendo entre las ollas o algo así.. un niño X, perdido, Sota, que es buena gente aunque ande medio perdido él también, piensa 'bueno, lo llevo con la poli'.. y aquí es donde la cosa se pone ¡rara! y, la verdad, ¡adorable! En el camino, pasan cosas – pasan por un templo, chance hablan con un monje – y Sota empieza a escuchar leyendas del lugar, específicamente, de los tanuki.
A ver, si no saben qué son, los tanuki son como unas criaturas del folclor japonés, la serie los pinta medio como fantasmas o duendes, espíritus traviesos que les gusta hacerle bromas a la gente, son leyendas, como La Llorona, ¡imagínense!, para que se den una idea del rollo folclórico, aunque ¡ojo!, los tanuki son mucho más tiernos y menos de dar miedo. Piensen más bien en un mapache-perro buena onda que cambia de forma o, como decían por ahí, una especie de espíritu zorro, algo así.. total que Sota seguro está pensando: "Ajá, cuentos del pueblo", hasta que voltea a ver al niño otra vez y se da cuenta… Al niño de repente le salen orejas peludas y una cola! ¡Sí! ¡El niño no es un niño cualquiera; es un tanuki! ---  [Imagen Source](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/68224/images/backdrops) --- And this is where things get good, the best part of the series, instead of going crazy (well, after getting a little scared, right?), Sota just… decides to take care of this little tanuki, whom he calls Poco… and the relationship between them? Oh my God! She’s the center of EVERYTHING, she melts your heart, she’s so cute! Poco is adorable to a criminal level, seriously, the animation makes him look so soft, so chubby, that you just want to hug him, he has that innocence of giant eyes, learning to talk, discovering what everything is like… and those little ears and tail multiply the cuteness by a thousand. There were moments watching Poco just being himself, that had me grinning like a fool at the screen, he even starts copying Sota’s gestures and the things he does, and it really feels like a real father-son bond is forming between them, even though, well, they’re from different species! It’s something super pure and sweet… but not everything is pure tenderness and laughter, the arrival of Poco is like the little push that Sota needed… forces him to stop running away from his problems, suddenly he has this little boy who depends on him, and that forces him to face everything that was eluding him: the issue with his mother’s death years ago, that complicated, perhaps even kind of ugly, relationship he had with his father in the end, his own unhappiness with his job as a web designer, and the big dilemma: what to do with the udon shop? Does he continue or not? Seeing Sota’s journey, how he changes, it’s really cool… thanks to Poco, you see how he grows as a person, it shows!; he begins to get the hang of it, to take responsibility and to think carefully about what he wants from his life… the change he has from the first episode to the last is great, you can see the character development. The series knows how to mix this tenderness with moments that really hit home, serious and sad moments, a lot of it revolves around Sota understanding the vibe with his dad, there’s a sort of underlying message that really resonated with me: that thing about valuing your people while you’re still around… you don’t realize how important someone is until they’re gone, right? The series isn’t afraid to show that sentiment, and there were a couple of episodes, especially towards the end, like the 10th and the last one, that got unexpectedly emotional! It caught me by surprise, honestly, I didn’t expect a series with an adorable tanuki boy at its center to hit so hard emotionally. >Y aquí es donde la cosa se pone buena, lo bueno de la serie, en vez de volverse loco (bueno, después de asustarse un poquito, ¿no?), Sota nomás… decide cuidar a este tanuki chiquito, al que llama Poco.. y la relación entre ellos? ¡Ay, Dios mío!, es el centro de TODO, es que te derrite el corazón, ¡es súper tierna! Poco es adorable a un nivel criminal, en serio, la animación lo hace ver tan suavecito, tan pachoncito, que nomás quieres darle un abrazo, tiene esa inocencia de ojos gigantes, aprendiendo a hablar, descubriendo cómo es todo… y esas orejitas y la colita multiplican lo tierno por mil. Hubo momentos viendo a Poco ser nomás él, que me tenían sonriendo como baboso a la pantalla, hasta empieza a copiar los gestos de Sota y las cosas que hace, y neta se siente como si estuviera naciendo un lazo real de papá e hijo entre ellos, a pesar de que, pues, ¡son de especies diferentes!
Es algo súper puro y dulce.. pero no todo es pura ternura y risas, la llegada de Poco como que es el empujoncito que Sota necesitaba.. lo obliga a dejar de huir de sus problemas, de repente tiene a este chiquitín que depende de él, y eso lo obliga a enfrentar todo lo que le sacaba la vuelta: el tema con la muerte de su mamá hace años, esa relación complicada, quizás hasta medio fea, que tuvo con su papá al final, su propia infelicidad con el trabajo de diseñador web, y el gran dilema: ¿qué hacer con la tienda de udon? ¿La sigue o no la sigue? Ver el viaje de Sota, cómo va cambiando, la verdad está bastante chido.. gracias a Poco, ves cómo crece como persona, ¡se nota!; empieza a agarrar la onda, a hacerse responsable y a pensar bien qué quiere de su vida.. el cambio que tiene desde el primer episodio al último es genial, se ve el desarrollo de personaje.
La serie sabe mezclar esta ternura con momentos que sí te pegan, momentos serios y tristes, mucho de eso gira alrededor de Sota entendiendo la onda con su papá, hay como un mensaje de fondo que a mí, me pegó mucho: eso de valorar a tu gente mientras la tienes cerca.. uno no se da cuenta de lo importante que es alguien hasta que ya no está, no? La serie no teme mostrar ese sentimiento, y hubo un par de capítulos, sobre todo ya al final, como el 10 y el último, que se pusieron ¡inesperadamente emotivos! Me agarró de sorpresa, sinceramente, no me esperaba que una serie con un niño tanuki adorable como centro fuera a pegar tan duro en lo emocional. ---  [Image Source](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/68224/images/backdrops) --- As for how it looks, I already told you, Poco is adorable, but the whole series is really pretty, the studio that animated it, Liden Films, uses super vivid, very striking colors, it makes the town feel alive, warm, very cozy... sometimes the characters have a very marked white border and some people didn't like it, but honestly, I didn't even notice... for me, it didn't take away from how beautiful everything looks, and the opening! It's called "S.O.S." and it's super catchy! Very cheerful, it fits perfectly with the theme of the series... I had it in my head for days, the background music, the little songs during the episodes, are also very cool - many times calm, sometimes kind of melancholic or sad, just how the moment suits the moment. Now, here comes the 'but' – and it's perhaps what divides opinions the most – the pacing. This is, without a doubt, one of those slow, slice-of-life series, ones that go at a slow pace. Don't expect a lot of action-packed plot pushing you along. It's based more on the characters' moments, the atmosphere, those emotional touches. Me? I loved it! I found it super relaxing, easy to watch, you can take it easy. It's one of those perfect series to disconnect at the end of the day. But a friend told me that he found it painfully slow! He seemed to lose interest after two episodes and found it difficult to finish it, he felt like almost nothing was happening. So, well, I guess it depends a lot on what you're looking for... if you need action all the time or super complicated plot twists, this one isn't for you... but if you like stories that focus on characters, relationships that touch your heart, and a slower, more thought-provoking pace (like Barakamon or Amaama to Inazuma, which are often compared), then you'll definitely like it, think of it more like stepping into a warm bath than riding a roller coaster. >En cuanto a cómo se ve, ya les dije, Poco es adorable, pero es que toda la serie está bien bonita, el estudio que la animó, Liden Films usan unos colores súper vivos, bien llamativos, hace que el pueblito se sienta vivo, cálido, bien acogedor.. a veces los personajes tienen como un borde blanco muy marcado y que a algunos no les gustó, pero sinceramente, yo ni cuenta me di.. para mí, no le quitó nada a lo bonito que se ve todo, y el opening! Se llama "S.O.S." y es ¡súper pegadizo!, bien alegre, le queda perfecto al tema de la serie.. lo traje en la cabeza por días, la musiquita de fondo, las rolitas durante los capítulos, también están muy chidas – muchas veces tranquilas, a veces medio melancólicas o tristes, justo como le va al momento.
Ahora, aquí viene el 'pero' – y tal vez es lo que más divide opiniones – el ritmo.. esta es, sí o sí, una serie de esas lentitas, 'slice-of-life', de ir a fuego lento, no esperen muchísima trama llena de acción que te esté empujando.. se basa más en los momentos de los personajes, en el ambiente, en esos toques emotivos. ¿A mí? ¡Me encantó! La sentí súper relajante, fácil de ver, te la llevas tranquila.. es de esas series perfectas para desconectarte al final del día.. pero un amigo me comentó que se le hizo ¡dolorosamente lenta!, como que le perdió el interés a los dos capítulos y le costó un trabajo terminarla, sintió que no pasaba casi nada.
Así que, pues, supongo que depende mucho de qué andes buscando.. si necesitas acción todo el tiempo o giros de trama súper complicados, esta no es para ti.. pero si te gustan las historias que se enfocan en los personajes, las relaciones que te tocan el corazón y un ritmo más tranquilo, más de pensarle (como Barakamon o Amaama to Inazuma, que seguido las comparan), entonces seguro te va a gustar, piénsenlo más como meterse a un baño calientito que subirse a una montaña rusa. ---  [Image Source](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/68224/season/1/episode/8/images/backdrops) --- But I’m telling you, I was surprised. It wasn’t exactly what I imagined, but seeing how things turned out, especially why Poco showed up (which is like a little mystery throughout the whole series), it felt… good, like it fit… it wrapped everything up in a way that really gets to you, maybe a little bittersweet, but in the end it leaves you happy. It left me thinking, and honestly, it did, and that made the series feel special… so, I was really surprised by how much I liked Poco's Udon World. I went into it expecting something chill, cute, and yes, it has that, but I also found a ton of feeling and character growth that I wasn’t expecting… it wasn’t perfect, obviously – maybe those little bits of Gao Gao-chan at the end of each episode felt kind of forced in, they didn’t really contribute much. And yes, the slow pace isn’t for everyone… but the connection between Sota and Poco is pure magic, it looks super cute and the whole emotional thing feels so real, I easily give it an **8/10**, it’s not the anime that’s going to change history, but it has a GIANT heart! If you like those quiet stories, that touch your heart, 'slice-of-life' with its touch of fantasy and a lot of 'feels' – give it a chance! Just prepare yourself for a possible overdose of tenderness… and well, that’s all for today, take care of yourselves! Bye! >Pero les digo, me sorprendió, no fue justo lo que me imaginaba, pero viendo cómo se dieron las cosas, sobre todo el porqué apareció Poco (que es como un misterio chiquito durante toda la serie), se sintió… bien, como que encajaba.. cerró todo de una forma que sí te llega, tal vez un poquito agridulce, pero al final te deja contento. Me dejó pensando, y neta que sí, esto hizo que la serie se sintiera especial.. entonces, me sorprendió un montón lo mucho que me gustó Poco's Udon World, le entré esperando algo relax, tierno, y sí, eso lo tiene, pero también me topé con un montón de sentimiento y crecimiento de los personajes que no me esperaba.. no fue perfecta, obvio – chance esas partecitas de Gao Gao-chan al final de cada capítulo se sintieron medio metidas a la fuerza, no aportaban mucho, la verdad.
Y sí, el ritmo lento no es para cualquiera.. pero la conexión entre Sota y Poco es pura magia, se ve súper bonito y todo el rollo emocional se siente bien real, fácil le doy un **8/10**, no es el anime que va a cambiar la historia, pero ¡tiene un corazón GIGANTE! Si les laten esas historias tranquilitas, que te tocan el corazón, 'slice-of-life' con su toque de fantasía y un montón de 'feels' – denle una oportunidad! Nomás prepárense para una posible sobredosis de ternura.. y bueno, eso es todo por hoy, cuidense mucho!
