Hello Otaku friends, fans of good stories, I hope you are super well today, this time I want to share a new review, I will talk about a quite unique anime, that took me by surprise, I finished it a few weeks ago, and I consider that it is time to talk about it, it is called: Senpai Is an Otokonoko. I was going with onthe idea of "well, another nice, peculiar rom-com", but no way! This is much deeper.. one of those series that leave you feeling things.. look, the premise, from the start, already hooks you.. imagine: Saki Aoi, a first-year girl, pure energy, declares her love to her senpai, Makoto Hanaoka.. she declared her love assuming she was a girl, but here comes the twist: WHAM! Makoto, with a little smile, drops the bomb: "Hey, thanks, but... I'm a boy" .. it's super funny and curious at the same time, he's one of those boys who loves to dress in clothes that are normally considered feminine... women's clothes, and let me tell you, Makoto looks spectacular, it looks incredible on him!
The story starts there, and it's not just the surprise of the moment, but everything that comes after... Makoto, what an interesting character, he really loves pretty things, women's fashion, makeup... everything... it's not a phase, it's not a fetish, it's simply who he is, part of his essence, what fascinated me is how the anime gets into his head, into his world. He spends his time questioning: "Is what I'm doing okay? Am I hurting anyone because of who I am? Can they really accept me like this?" It's a super real journey of self-discovery and that need to be accepted, not just by others, but by oneself... you see him dealing with the bullying he suffered, with his doubts, with wanting to live his life without hiding or having to choose a side... there's a brutal honesty in his struggle that made me support him with everything.
And this is where the series, for me, really shines... it touches on some very delicate subjects - acceptance, identity, what society expects, gender roles - and it does so with a seriousness and respect that pleasantly surprised me... it doesn't use it for easy laughs or for shock value, which was something that worried me a little at first, on the contrary, it genuinely explores what it means to be different in a society that often prefers us all to fit into the same mold. It makes you think things like: "Why can't a boy like pretty dresses? Why do we have to put people into such rigid molds?" We see all of this through Makoto and the people around him.
>Hola amigos Otakus, fanáticos de las buenas historias, espero que estén super bien hoy, en esta ocasión les quiero compartir una nueva reseña, les hablaré de un anime bastante único, que me tomo por sorpresa, lo termine hace algunas semanas, y considero que ya es hora de hablar sobre el, se llama: Senpai Is an Otokonoko. Yo iba con la idea de "bueno, otra rom-com simpática, peculiar", ¡pero qué va! Esto es mucho más profundo.. de esas series que te dejan sintiendo cosas.. miren, la premisa, de entrada, ya te engancha.. imagínense: Saki Aoi, una chica de primer año, pura energía, se le declara a su senpai, Makoto Hanaoka.. ella se le declaró asumiendo que era una chica, pero acá viene el giro: ¡ZAS! Makoto, con una sonrisita, le suelta la bomba: "Oye, gracias, pero... es que soy un chico".. es súper gracioso y curioso a la vez, él es de esos chicos que les encanta vestirse con ropa que normalmente se considera femenina.. ropa de mujer, y déjenme decirles, Makoto se ve espectacular, ¡le queda increíble!
La historia empieza ahí, y no es solo la sorpresa del momento, sino todo lo que viene después.. Makoto, ¡qué personaje tan interesante, a él le encantan de verdad las cosas lindas, la moda femenina, el maquillaje... todo.. no es una etapa, no es un fetiche, es simplemente quién es él, parte de su esencia, lo que me fascinó es cómo el anime se mete en su cabeza, en su mundo. Se la pasa cuestionándose: "¿Está bien lo que hago? ¿Le hago daño a alguien por ser como soy? ¿De verdad me pueden aceptar así?". Es un viaje súper real de autodescubrimiento y de esa necesidad de que te acepten, no solo los demás, sino uno mismo.. lo ves lidiando con el bullying que sufrió, con sus dudas, con querer vivir su vida sin esconderse ni tener que elegir un bando.. hay una honestidad brutal en su lucha que hizo lo apoyará con todo.
Y aquí es donde la serie, para mí, de verdad se luce.. toca unos temas bien delicados –aceptación, identidad, lo que la sociedad espera, los roles de género– y lo hace con una seriedad y un respeto que me sorprendió para bien.. no lo usa para la risa fácil ni para el shock, que era algo que me preocupaba un poquito al principio, al contrario, explora de forma genuina qué significa ser diferente en una sociedad que muchas veces prefiere que todos encajemos en el mismo molde. Te pone a pensar cosas como: "¿Por qué a un chico no le pueden gustar los vestidos bonitos? ¿Por qué tenemos que meter a la gente en moldes tan rígidos?".. todo esto lo vemos a través de Makoto y la gente que lo rodea. ---  [Imagen Source](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/239761/images/backdrops) --- Okay, so speaking of the other characters, because they’re key too… first, Aoi, the girl who confesses to him, instead of freaking out or running away when Makoto tells her he’s a boy, her reaction is… wow, haha, she basically says, “So, you’re cute as a girl and handsome as a boy? Double the prize!” That way she accepts him so quickly, almost without hesitation, is touching and honestly quite refreshing… she doesn’t try to change him; she’s just fascinated and supports him through everything, but Aoi isn’t just there to get the story started or to be a cheerleader. She has her own issues, especially with her family… her dad, a marine biologist, pays more attention to whales than to her (how disappointing!), and her mom, well, abandoned her with her grandma… all of that gives her a ton of depth, it explains her insecurities and why she needs a real connection so badly, which she finds with Makoto. Then there’s Ryuji Taiga, he’s been Makoto’s best friend since they were little, and oh, Ryuji… what a character, what a development! He’s super protective of Makoto. At first, he’s distrustful of Aoi because he’s seen Makoto suffer before. But you quickly realize that what he feels for Makoto is… complicated… he’s clearly dealing with an attraction that goes beyond friendship, and that has him a messed up, he’s struggling with social norms, with understanding his own sexuality and what’s up with all that… seeing how he changes, that painful path until he understands and accepts what he feels, was something that hooked me so much. There were moments with Ryuji that, truly, my heart broke for him… he tries to act tough, the rebel, to show that he supports Makoto for being “different”, but inside he’s just a boy trying to understand what love and loyalty are… the dynamic between these three is the heart of the series, really. Makoto, Aoi, and Ryuji – they make up this amazing, supportive, and sometimes total mess of a group. They genuinely love each other and help each other through their own personal hells, even when their feelings are a little complicated. At first, it seems like it’s going to be your typical love triangle, and yes, of course, there’s romantic tension in the air. But the way their relationships develop feels much more nuanced and, dare I say, mature than a lot of anime handle it. It’s not just about who gets who; it’s about them understanding and accepting each other. They complement each other so well, each one’s strengths covering for the other’s weaknesses. >Bueno, y hablando de los otros personajes, porque son clave también.. primero, Aoi, la chica que se le confiesa, en vez de asustarse o salir corriendo cuando Makoto le dice que es un chico, su reacción es.. wow, jaja, básicamente dice: "O sea, ¿eres adorable como chica y guapo como chico? ¡Doble premio!". Esa forma de aceptarlo rápidamente, casi sin dudar, es conmovedora y, la verdad, algo bien refrescante.. no intenta cambiarlo; simplemente está fascinada y lo apoya con todo, pero Aoi no está ahí solo para que empiece la historia o para ser la porrista. Ella tiene sus propios problemas, especialmente con su familia.. su papá, un biólogo marino, le pone más atención a ballenas que a ella (¡qué bajón!), y su mamá, pues, la abandonó con su abuela.. todo eso le da un montón de profundidad, te explica sus inseguridades y por qué necesita tanto una conexión de verdad, que la encuentra con Makoto.
Luego está Ryuji Taiga, es el mejor amigo de Makoto desde chiquitos, y ay, Ryuji.. qué personaje, gente, qué desarrollo, es súper protector con Makoto, al principio desconfía de Aoi porque ya vio a Makoto sufrir antes. Pero rapidito te das cuenta de que lo que siente por Makoto es... complicado.. claramente está lidiando con una atracción que va más allá de la amistad, y eso lo tiene hecho un desastre, está peleando con las normas sociales, con entender su propia sexualidad y qué onda con todo eso.. ver cómo va cambiando, ese camino doloroso hasta entender y aceptar lo que siente, fue algo que me enganchó muchísimo. Hubo momentos con Ryuji que, de verdad, se me partía el corazón por él.. intenta hacerse el rudo, el rebelde, para mostrar que apoya a Makoto por ser "diferente", pero por dentro es solo un chico tratando de entender qué es el amor y la lealtad.. la dinámica entre estos tres es el corazón de la serie.
Makoto, Aoi y Ryuji – forman este grupo increíble, que se apoya un montón y que, a veces, es un desastre total.. se quieren de verdad y se ayudan a pasar por sus propios infiernos personales, incluso cuando sus sentimientos son algo complicados, al principio parece que va a ser el típico triángulo amoroso, y sí, obvio que hay tensión romántica en el aire. Pero la forma en que se desarrollan sus relaciones se siente mucho más llena de matices y, me animo a decir, más madura de lo que muchos animes lo manejan.. no se trata solo de quién se queda con quién; se trata de que se entiendan y se acepten entre ellos, se complementan súper bien, las fortalezas de uno cubren las debilidades del otro. ---  [Image Source](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/239761/season/1/episode/1/images/backdrops) --- Well, people, anime also really gets into family dramas, which are often the main focus of our protagonists, right? Let's see, Makoto's dad? He's super cool, seriously, what a level of understanding, supporting Makoto in her dressing however she wants... it's not like he just puts up with it, no way! He actively helps Makoto explore that vibe, even helping him find a school that will accept him just as he is... her super calm and loving personality contrasts a lot with Makoto's mom. Now, the mom... ugh, that's a more complicated issue... she's carrying a trauma from her childhood, so when she sees that Makoto is going down a different path than conventional men, boom! She panics... she gets rude, which is that thing where she forbids Makoto from even cooking because he's "too feminine." At times it felt a little exaggerated, to be honest, but it served as a means to some very important, if difficult, confrontations, and ultimately, to help them begin to understand each other. And as I was saying, Aoi’s family situation, with her parents absent and her depending on her grandmother, really anchors her character and her longing for a stable, loving home. In the end, what I took away from Senpai Is an Otokonoko is this super powerful and positive message of acceptance, tolerance, and respect. It’s about having the courage to be yourself, even if it makes you feel weird, about how key it is to find people who see you and love you for who you are, and how beautiful it is to forge your own path. It’s surprisingly profound without ever feeling like a sermon, it’s just there, embedded in the characters’ lives and how they relate to each other. The series tells you: “Look, it’s okay to like what you like. It’s okay to be different. Your happiness matters.” Visually, the anime is quite solid, the studio did a good job... the character designs are super faithful to the art of the manga, the animation itself is good, not that you say wow, Ufotable level!, but it is definitely well done, especially in key moments, full of emotion, where the visuals really stand out and give more strength to the scene. >Y bueno, gente, el anime también le entra de lleno a los dramas familiares, que muchas veces son la el tema principal de nuestros protas, ¿no? A ver, ¿el papá de Makoto? Es súper genial, en serio, qué nivel de comprensión, apoyando a Makoto con eso de que se vista como se le dé la gana.. no es que solo lo aguante, ¡qué va! Le echa la mano activamente para que Makoto explore esa onda, hasta lo ayuda a buscar una escuela donde lo acepten tal cual.. su forma de ser, así súper tranqui y cariñosa, contrasta un montón con la mamá de Makoto. Ahora, la mamá… uff, ese es un tema más complicado.. ella carga con un trauma de su niñez, así que, cuando ve que Makoto va por un camino diferente al de los hombres convencionales, ¡pum!, entra en pánico.. se pone ruda, que es eso de prohibirle a Makoto hasta cocinar porque es "muy femenino".
A ratos se sentía un poquito exagerado, la verdad, pero sirvió para unas confrontaciones bien importantes, aunque difíciles, y al final, para que empezaran a entenderse.. Y como les decía, la situación familiar de Aoi, con sus papás ausentes y ella dependiendo de su abuela, de verdad que le da un ancla a su personaje y a esas ganas que tiene de un hogar estable y con amor.. al final, lo que me llevo de Senpai Is an Otokonoko es este mensaje súper poderoso y positivo de aceptación, de tolerancia y de respeto. Trata de tener el valor de ser tú mismo, aunque te dé cosa, de lo clave que es encontrar gente que te vea y te quiera por quien eres, y lo bonito que es ir abriendo tu propio camino..
Es sorprendentemente profundo sin sentirse nunca como un sermón, simplemente está ahí, metido en la vida de los personajes y cómo se relacionan.. la serie te dice: "Mira, está bien que te guste lo que te gusta. Está bien ser diferente. Tu felicidad importa". Visualmente, el anime está bastante sólido, el estudio hizo un buen trabajo.. los diseños de personajes son súper fieles al arte del manga, la animación en sí está buena, no es que digas ¡wow, nivel Ufotable!, pero definitivamente está bien hecha, sobre todo en momentos clave, llenos de emoción, donde lo visual de verdad resalta y le da más fuerza a la escena. ---  [Image Source](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/239761/season/1/episode/3/images/backdrops) --- And the music, everyone! Wow, the music! The opening and ending, what can I say! They are amazing! The opening, "Wagamama" by Kujira, is one of those songs that sticks with you... and the ending, "Are ga Koi Datta no kana" by Nishina, is a gem, beautiful and leaves you thinking... the background music is also good, it creates a good atmosphere without stealing the show... I'll be honest, I started watching it expecting a typical light romantic comedy, maybe with a funny "trap" character, and pff!, nothing to do with what I imagined! It broke all my molds... it turns out it has an emotional depth that, ugh, I didn't expect at all, I got hooked on the characters, seriously, I wanted them to be happy... there were parts that, I'm not lying to you, my eyes watered, especially with Ryuji... how the story shows you that Makoto doesn't just want to be a girl, but rather wants the freedom of being a boy who likes feminine things... that was incredibly well done and is important. It's not that he's confused about his gender identity, as some might think, not at all! His problem is how the world won't let him express himself... I really liked Senpai Is an Otokonoko! I easily, easily give it an **8.5/10**. It's not perfect, I think the pacing of some things, like the development of Makoto's mom, felt a bit rushed at the end, and like I said, her reactions were a bit over the top at times, but the main story, the characters are great, and how it touches on the themes... wow, they're really good! El opening, el "Wagamama" de Kujira, es de esas canciones que se te pegan.. y el ending, "Are ga Koi Datta no kana" de Nishina, es una joyita, lindo y te deja pensando.. la música de fondo también cumple, crea buen ambiente sin robar cámara.. les soy sincero, yo empecé a verla esperando la típica comedia romántica ligerita, tal vez con un personaje "trap" medio curioso, y ¡pff!, ¡nada que ver con lo que me imaginaba! Me rompió todos los esquemas.. resulta que tiene una profundidad emocional que uff, no me la esperaba para nada, me enganché con los personajes, en serio, quería que fueran felices.. hubo partes que, no les miento, se me aguaron los ojos, sobre todo con lo de Ryuji.. cómo la historia te muestra que Makoto no es que quiera ser una chica, sino que quiere la libertad de ser un chico al que le gustan las cosas femeninas… eso estuvo súper bien llevado y es importante.
No es que esté confundido con su identidad de género, como algunos podrían pensar, ¡para nada! Su problema es cómo el mundo no lo va a dejar expresarse.. ¡me gustó mucho Senpai Is an Otokonoko! Fácil, fácil le pongo un **8.5/10**. No es perfecto, creo que el ritmo de algunas cositas, como el desarrollo de la mamá de Makoto, se sintió medio apurado al final, y como les dije, sus reacciones a veces eran un poquito exageradas, pero la historia principal, los personajes que son geniales, y cómo toca los temas... ¡uff, es que son buenísimos, de verdad! Le echa la mano activamente para que Makoto explore esa onda, hasta lo ayuda a buscar una escuela donde lo acepten tal cual.. su forma de ser, así súper tranqui y cariñosa, contrasta un montón con la mamá de Makoto. Ahora, la mamá… uff, ese es un tema más complicado.. ella carga con un trauma de su niñez, así que, cuando ve que Makoto va por un camino diferente al de los hombres convencionales, ¡pum!, entra en pánico.. se pone ruda, que es eso de prohibirle a Makoto hasta cocinar porque es "muy femenino".
A ratos se sentía un poquito exagerado, la verdad, pero sirvió para unas confrontaciones bien importantes, aunque difíciles, y al final, para que empezaran a entenderse.. Y como les decía, la situación familiar de Aoi, con sus papás ausentes y ella dependiendo de su abuela, de verdad que le da un ancla a su personaje y a esas ganas que tiene de un hogar estable y con amor.. al final, lo que me llevo de Senpai Is an Otokonoko es este mensaje súper poderoso y positivo de aceptación, de tolerancia y de respeto. Trata de tener el valor de ser tú mismo, aunque te dé cosa, de lo clave que es encontrar gente que te vea y te quiera por quien eres, y lo bonito que es ir abriendo tu propio camino..
Es sorprendentemente profundo sin sentirse nunca como un sermón, simplemente está ahí, metido en la vida de los personajes y cómo se relacionan.. la serie te dice: "Mira, está bien que te guste lo que te gusta. Está bien ser diferente. Tu felicidad importa". Visualmente, el anime está bastante sólido, el estudio hizo un buen trabajo.. los diseños de personajes son súper fieles al arte del manga, la animación en sí está buena, no es que digas ¡wow, nivel Ufotable!, pero definitivamente está bien hecha, sobre todo en momentos clave, llenos de emoción, donde lo visual de verdad resalta y le da más fuerza a la escena. ---  [Image Source](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/239761/season/1/episode/3/images/backdrops) --- And the music, everyone! It's not that he's confused about his gender identity, as some might think, not at all! His problem is how the world won't let him express himself... I really liked Senpai Is an Otokonoko! I easily, easily give it an **8.5/10**. It's not perfect, I think the pacing of some things, like the development of Makoto's mom, felt a bit rushed at the end, and like I said, her reactions were a bit over the top at times, but the main story, the characters are great, and how it touches on the themes... wow, they're really good! El opening, el "Wagamama" de Kujira, es de esas canciones que se te pegan.. y el ending, "Are ga Koi Datta no kana" de Nishina, es una joyita, lindo y te deja pensando.. la música de fondo también cumple, crea buen ambiente sin robar cámara.. les soy sincero, yo empecé a verla esperando la típica comedia romántica ligerita, tal vez con un personaje "trap" medio curioso, y ¡pff!, ¡nada que ver con lo que me imaginaba! Me rompió todos los esquemas.. resulta que tiene una profundidad emocional que uff, no me la esperaba para nada, me enganché con los personajes, en serio, quería que fueran felices.. hubo partes que, no les miento, se me aguaron los ojos, sobre todo con lo de Ryuji.. cómo la historia te muestra que Makoto no es que quiera ser una chica, sino que quiere la libertad de ser un chico al que le gustan las cosas femeninas… eso estuvo súper bien llevado y es importante.
No es que esté confundido con su identidad de género, como algunos podrían pensar, ¡para nada! Su problema es cómo el mundo no lo va a dejar expresarse.. ¡me gustó mucho Senpai Is an Otokonoko! Fácil, fácil le pongo un **8.5/10**. No es perfecto, creo que el ritmo de algunas cositas, como el desarrollo de la mamá de Makoto, se sintió medio apurado al final, y como les dije, sus reacciones a veces eran un poquito exageradas, pero la historia principal, los personajes que son geniales, y cómo toca los temas... ¡uff, es que son buenísimos, de verdad!
