Today we’ll talk about: The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. Look, this is one of those books that, almost without you realizing it, sticks with you. From the beginning, it grabs you with that half-depressed, but also hopeful vibe, and it leaves you thinking a lot. Yes, I’ll be honest, at times I felt like I was reading those Instagram quotes, like ‘be your best version’, haha! But still... I really couldn’t put it down. The thing is, the main character, Nora Seed, is going through a really bad time, a really bad time, she’s 35, she feels like her life is a mess, everything has happened to her – her cat died (ugh!), she had a fight with her best friend, she doesn’t even talk to her brother – and she feels like she’s worthless anymore. In that desperation, she makes a super strong decision... but instead of everything ending, boom!, she ends up in a crazy place: the Midnight Library... imagine a magical place, like between life and death, where time stands still and each book is a different life that she could have had if she had chosen other things... this thing about parallel lives blew my mind, honestly, to think that each decision, no matter how small, opens up a totally different path for you... it's like wow!, it gives you hope, but also a little bit of fear, right? It's as if the book is telling you: 'hey, there are always other options, things can always be different'... that feels super real, very human. Well, Nora starts to get into those other lives: maybe she's the wife of so-and-so, maybe she's a famous scientist, a rock star, an Olympic swimmer, a teacher... or just a quiet chick living out there. Every life is a world, with its good things and its problems, of course... the more she tries, the more she understands what truly matters to her, what gives meaning to everything and what doesn't, something we clearly saw coming. >Hola a todos, amigos de Hive, espero que hoy se encuentren supe bien, les quiero compartir a todos ustedes, mis opiniones sobre un libro que leí hace algunas semanas, hoy hablaremos se: La Biblioteca de la Medianoche de Matt Haig.. miren, este es de esos libros que, casi sin que te des cuenta, se te queda grabado, desde el principio te atrapa con esa onda medio depre, pero también con esperanza, y te deja pensando un montón.. sí, les soy sincero, a ratos sentía que leía frases de esas de Instagram, tipo ‘sé tu mejor versión’, ¡jaja! Pero igual... no lo podía soltar, de verdad.. la cosa es que la prota, Nora Seed, está pasando por un momento malísimo, pero malísimo nivel Dios, tiene 35, siente que su vida es un desastre, le ha pasado de todo –se le murió el gato (¡uf!), se peleó con la mejor amiga, ni habla con el hermano– y siente que ya no vale pa' nada.
En esa desesperación, toma una decisión súper fuerte... pero en lugar de que todo termine, ¡pum!, aparece en un lugar loquísimo: la Biblioteca de la Medianoche.. imagínense un lugar mágico, como entre la vida y la muerte, donde el tiempo no pasa y cada libro es una vida diferente que ella pudo tener si hubiera elegido otras cosas.. este rollo de las vidas paralelas a mí me voló la cabeza, la verdad, pensar que cada decisión, por chiquita que sea, te abre un camino totalmente distinto... es como ¡wow!, te da esperanza, pero también un poquito de miedo, ¿no? Es como si el libro te dijera: ‘oye, siempre hay otras opciones, siempre se puede diferente’.. eso se siente súper real, muy humano bueno, Nora empieza a meterse en esas otras vidas: que si es esposa de tal, que si es científica famosa, estrella de rock, nadadora olímpica, profe... o simplemente una tipa tranquila viviendo por ahí. Cada vida es un mundo, con sus cosas buenas y sus problemas, claro.. mientras más prueba, más va entendiendo qué es lo que de verdad importa para ella, qué le da sentido a todo y qué no, algo que claramente veíamos venir. ---  Image generated with FLUX. Improved with KREA. --- Look, something I loved is that Nora isn't your typical perfect protagonist, she's a girl with her problems, with her doubts, who has regrets, who thinks about everything... she feels super real, like someone you could meet out there, and that's why you connect with her quickly, from the beginning, then there's Mrs. Elm, who was her librarian as a child, and who here is like her guide through all this mess of lives. She gives it the tender touch, like a mother's, that Nora needed after all the downturn the story starts with... speaking of how it's written, Haig writes in a way that's super easy to read, honestly, the chapters are short, the sentences go straight to the point but they leave you thinking, and the rhythm is one of those that makes you devour the book without realizing it... it doesn't get super technical or philosophical, but it still reaches you, it touches your heartstrings. It’s that kind of writing that seems simple, but boom! It leaves your head spinning for a while afterward. Now, is it the perfect book? Well, no, not really. There were parts where I felt like the author was trying to be TOO profound, like he was grabbing you and saying, ‘Hey, look at this important message I’m giving you! ’ While many of the ideas are good, some feel kind of forced on you, or like I’ve already told you before, and the ending… mmm, I was hoping for a bit more of an emotional punch, you know? It’s not that it’s bad, mind you, it’s nice and everything wraps up well, but it wasn’t one of those endings that leaves you crying your eyes out or heartbroken… it just lacked that little spark to say, ‘Wow, what a great ending! But still, people, The Midnight Library is a book that makes you look inward, with all this about Nora trying out other lives, it makes you think about what things are truly worthwhile... you question your own decisions, those paths you didn't take, and what it really means to have a 'good life'. It's one of those books that you finish and you're left wondering, it left me with the idea of ​​how many times we get stuck in the 'what if I had done this?' or 'what if it had been different?', and we don't realize that the important thing in life is not only what could have been, but what we can still do. >Miren, algo que me encantó es que Nora no es la típica prota perfecta, es una tipa con sus problemas, con sus dudas, que se arrepiente, que le da vueltas a todo.. se siente súper real, como alguien que te podrías encontrar por ahí, y por eso conectas con ella rápidamente, desde el inicio, luego está la señora Elm, que era su bibliotecaria de niña, y que aquí es como su guía en todo este lío de las vidas. Ella le pone el toque tierno, como de mamá, que le hacía falta a Nora después de todo el bajón con el que empieza la historia.. hablando de cómo está escrito, Haig escribe súper fácil de leer, la verdad, los capítulos son cortitos, las frases van directo al grano pero te dejan pensando, y el ritmo es de esos que te devoras el libro sin darte cuenta.. no se pone súper técnico ni filosófico, pero igual te llega, te toca la fibra. Es ese tipo de escritura que parece sencilla, pero ¡pum!, te deja con la cabeza dando vueltas un buen rato después..
Ahora, ¿es el libro perfecto? Pues no, tampoco, hay partes donde sentí que el autor quería ser DEMASIADO profundo, como que te agarraba y te decía: ‘¡Oye, mira qué mensaje tan importante te estoy dando!’.. aunque muchas ideas son buenas, algunas se sienten medio metidas a la fuerza, o como que ya te lo había dicho antes, y el final... mmm, me quedé esperando un poquito más de golpe emocional, ¿saben? No es que esté mal, ojo, está bonito y todo cierra bien, pero no fue de esos finales que te dejan llorando a mares o con el corazón roto.. le faltó esa chispita para decir ‘¡Wow, qué finalazo!’.
Pero igual, gente, La Biblioteca de la Medianoche es un libro que te hace mirar para adentro, con todo esto de Nora probando otras vidas, te pones a pensar en qué cosas valen la pena de verdad.. te cuestionas tus propias decisiones, esos caminos que no tomaste, y qué significa realmente tener una ‘buena vida’. Es de esos libros que terminas y te quedas pensando, me dejó con la idea de cuántas veces nos quedamos pegados en el ‘¿y si hubiera hecho esto?’ o ‘¿y si hubiera sido diferente?’, y no nos damos cuenta de que lo importante de la vida no es solo lo que pudo ser, sino lo que todavía podemos hacer. ---  Created with Canva Pro. Have you seen Pixar's Soul? If you liked that vibe of searching for the meaning of life, what makes us happy and all that, I'm sure you'll like this book too... it has a similar vibe, but more for adults, sadder, more focused on the regrets that we people have, not so much on the inspiration of the universe and all that... The Midnight Library didn't exactly change my life that radically, but it did make me value mine a little more, I liked it, it left me thinking, it touched my heart, but without leaving me devastated, you understand? I think it’s a worthwhile read, especially if you’re at that stage of questioning things or going through changes in your life… I give it… a **4.5/5**… I think if you’ve ever felt like your life isn’t going where you wanted it to, or if you live with a lot of ‘what if…?’ in your head, this book will give you a hug, a little comfort, read it calmly, make yourself a coffee, a mate, whatever you like, and maybe have a notebook handy… because maybe you’ll feel like jotting down a couple of ideas afterwards… who knows, you might even discover that your life, as it is right now, has more meaning than you thought… And well, that’s all for today, I hope you liked this review, see you in the next ones, take care of yourselves. Byebye. >Eso sí: el libro toca temas delicados, hablamos de suicidio, depresión, ansiedad, no es que sea gráfico ni nada, pero sí es fuerte emocionalmente, te mueve cosas.. así que si andan buscando algo súper light, para pasar el rato nomás, quizás este no es el momento, pero si les llama la atención una historia que te haga pensar, con un toque de fantasía tranqui, filosofía facilita y mucho, mucho corazón, entonces sí, ¡denle una oportunidad, de todas maneras! ¿Vieron Soul de Pixar? Si les gustó esa onda de buscarle el sentido a la vida, de qué nos hace felices y todo eso, fijo que este libro les va a gustar también.. tiene una vibra parecida, pero como más para grandes, más tristona, más enfocada en los arrepentimientos que tenemos las personas, no tanto en la inspiración del universo y eso..
La Biblioteca de la Medianoche no es que me haya cambiado la vida así radicalmente, pero sí me hizo valorar la mía un poquito más, me gustó, me dejó pensando, me llegó al cora, pero sin dejarme hecho polvo, ¿entienden? Creo que es una lectura que vale la pena, sobre todo si andan en esa etapa de preguntarse cosas o de cambios en su vida.. yo le doy... un **4.5/5**.. yo creo que si alguna vez han sentido que su vida como que no va pa' donde querían, o si viven con un montón de ‘¿y si hubiera...?’ en la cabeza, este libro les va a dar como un abracito, un poquito de consuelo, léanlo con calma, prepárense un cafecito, un matecito, lo que les guste, y quizás tengan una libreta a mano... porque tal vez y les dan ganas de anotar un par de ideas después.. quién sabe, y hasta descubren que su vida, así como está ahorita, tiene más sentido del que pensaban..
