Hello everyone, I hope you're all doing super well, dear Hive reading community. This time I want to share a new review with you. I'm going to talk about a rather curious book: "The School for Good and Evil" by Soman Chainani. I used to read it until I was a baby. Let me tell you, I have a ton of things to tell you... let's see, first of all, I liked it. The idea is simply brilliant, right? Imagine: a quiet little town, Gavaston, and boom! Every so many years, two kids are taken. One goes to the School for Good to become the hero or princess of the story, and the other, boom! To the School for Evil to train as the villain of the film. The craziest thing is that years later, their stories become the new fairy tales that the townspeople read. It's a super original idea. The whole point is, it's about two friends who are like water and oil. On the one hand, there's Sophie, the typical girl who thinks she's a proper princess! Gorgeous, always dressed up, doing "good deeds" here and there, all so she'll be chosen for the School for Good, obviously! Then we have Agatha, her best friend, who's the complete opposite. She lives in a cemetery—imagine that!—wears some kind of weird black dresses, and the townspeople have already identified her as the next witch. She's kind of unsociable, lonely, and, honestly, she just wants to be left alone with her friend and that's it... so, of course, when the Principal, this all-dark being, arrives to take them away, everyone, including them!, knows exactly who's going where. But hold on tight! Because here comes the first plot twist (yes, spelled out!): Sophie is sent to the School for Evil, the all-gothic, dirty one, and Agatha is left with the cutesy little princesses and their pastel dresses at the School for Good, and this whole mess, my friends, is what drives the whole story. Sophie can't believe it, imagine the shock!, and she spends the whole book trying to prove that she's Good... meanwhile, Agatha, who didn't even want to be there in the first place, all she wants is to go back home. Here comes the good, the juicy part: how the book makes you think about what's the deal with being "good" or "bad". It's not as simple as black or white, you know? We see how those labels change them, how they adjust or how they rebel; the world the author creates is amazing, really! I loved getting to know the two schools, the classes they have, the things they get into. One little detail that I loved, loved like crazy!, were the illustrations at the beginning of each chapter and the map that comes with the book... they really help you immerse yourself in this colorful, half-cartoonish world, and you feel like you're right there. >Hola a todos, espero que estén super bien, querida comunidad lectora de Hive, en esta ocasión les quiero compartir una nueva reseña, les hablaré de un libro bastante curioso: "The School for Good and Evil" de Soman Chainani, lo veía hasta en la sopa, y déjenme decirles que tengo un montón de cosas que contarles.. a ver, de entrada, me gustó, la idea es sencillamente genial, ¿o sea? Imagínense: un pueblito tranquilo, Gavaston, y ¡zas!, cada tantos años se llevan a dos chicos, uno va a la Escuela del Bien, para ser el héroe o la princesa de cuento, y el otro, ¡pum!, a la Escuela del Mal, a formarse como el villano de la película, lo más loco es que años después, sus historias se convierten en los nuevos cuentos de hadas que lee la gente del pueblo, es que es una idea súper original, bueno, la onda va de dos amigas que son como el agua y el aceite.
Por un lado, está Sophie, ¡la típica que se cree princesa hecha y derecha! Guapísima, siempre arregladita, haciendo "buenas obras" por aquí y por allá, todo para que la elijan para la Escuela del Bien, ¡obvio! luego tenemos a Agatha, su mejor amiga, que es todo lo contrario, vive en un cementerio, ¡imagínense!, usa unos vestidos negros así como medio raros, y la gente del pueblo ya la tiene fichada como la próxima bruja. Es medio uraña, solitaria, y la verdad, solo quiere que la dejen tranquila con su amiga y ya.. entonces, claro, cuando llega el Director, este ser todo oscuro, a llevárselas, todo el mundo, ¡ellas incluidas!, sabe perfecto quién va pa' dónde. Pero ¡agárrense!, porque aquí viene el primer plot twist (¡sí, así con todas las letras!): a Sophie la mandan a la Escuela del Mal, esa toda gótica y sucia, y a Agatha la dejan con las princesitas cursis y sus vestidos color pastel en la Escuela del Bien, y este enredo, amigos, es lo que mueve toda la historia.
Sophie está que no se la cree, ¡imagínense el shock!, y se pasa todo el libro intentando probar que ella es del Bien.. mientras, Agatha, que ni quería estar ahí para empezar, lo único que quiere es volver a su casa, aquí viene lo bueno, lo jugoso: cómo el libro te hace pensar qué onda con eso de ser "bueno" o "malo". No es tan simple como blanco o negro, ¿saben? Vemos cómo esas etiquetas los cambian, cómo se ajustan o cómo se rebelan, el mundo que crea el autor es una pasada, ¡de verdad! Me encantó ir conociendo las dos escuelas, las clases que tienen, los rollos en los que se meten, un detallito que amé, ¡amé con locura!, son las ilustraciones al principio de cada capítulo y el mapa que trae el libro.. te ayudan un montón a meterte de lleno en este mundo tan colorido, medio caricaturesco, y te sientes como si estuvieras ahí mismo. ---  Image generated with FLUX. With Sophie, you'd say "oh, I'm not going to like this girl", but her desperation and that ambition she has... I don't know, there's something about her that draws you in, even if sometimes it makes you roll your eyes at the things she does, eh! But Agatha... AGATHA! She is the star of this book, without a doubt! I connected with her immediately, just like that, she's cynical, hilarious! And how she reacts to all that ridiculousness about little princesses... you'll die laughing, I swear... and her evolution as a character is super genuine, it leaves you like... satisfied, good! The magic thing is also really cool. It's not that it's super strict, but the abilities they have, especially the villains!, are crazy, super original... there's one that turns her tattoos into bugs that come to life, and the way it's written is super fast-paced, it's really entertaining, one of those books you can quickly devour. Now, my only "but," really, is with the pacing of the ending... because, look, the book draws you into the world, building tension spectacularly, with the girls seeing how they're doing in their new schools and with the tests and everything. But the last few chapters... pff! They feel like they're going a mile a minute, the final confrontation with the Headmaster goes by so fast... I wish they'd given that a little more time, you know? So that all that excitement at the end could kind of... breathe a little more, to feel it better. >Y los personajes, ¡uff!, qué personajes, gente, son súper complejos, con Sophie, uno diría "ay, esta chica no me va a caer", pero es que su desesperación y esa ambición que tiene... no sé, tienen algo que te atrapa, aunque a veces te haga poner los ojos en blanco con las cosas que hace, ¡eh! Pero Agatha... ¡AGATHA! Ella es la estrella de este libro, ¡sin duda! Conecté con ella al toque, así de una, es que es cínica, ¡divertidísima!, y cómo reacciona a toda esa ridiculez de las princesitas... ¡te mueres de la risa, se los juro.. y su evolución como personaje es súper genuina, te deja como... ¡satisfecho, bien!
El rollo de la magia también está bien chévere, no es que sea súper estricto, pero las habilidades que tienen, ¡sobre todo los villanos!, son una locura, súper originales.. hay una que convierte sus tatuajes en bichos que cobran vida, y la forma en que está escrito es súper ágil, te entretiene un montón, de esos libros que te comes en nada. Ahora, mi único "pero" así, de verdad, es con el ritmo del final.. porque, miren, el libro te va metiendo en el mundo, va creando la tensión de una forma espectacular, con las chicas ahí viendo cómo le hacen en sus nuevas escuelas y con las pruebas y todo. Pero los últimos capítulos... ¡pff!, se sienten como que van a mil por hora, el enfrentamiento final con el Director pasa tan rápido.. me hubiera gustado que le dieran un poquito más de tiempo a eso, ¿saben? Para que toda esa emoción del final como que... respirara un poco más, para sentirla mejor. ---  Created with Canva Pro. It's a cliffhanger that will leave you speechless. You need the next book NOW! I mean, yes, it closes the whole story, but it leaves you with a thousand questions! And it gives the story a twist that, well, I'm not going to tell you about! So, if you like magic schools, or if you like those fairy tales with a twist, you're going to devour this book! Technically, they say it’s middle-grade, meaning for younger people, but believe me! The themes of identity, friendship, good and evil... are so deep that anyone, anyone!, will enjoy it, because of the incredible world the author created, the characters you won’t forget (AGATHA, I LOVE YOU!), and a story that surprises you every moment. I give “The School for Good and Evil” a **4 out of 5**, well placed! The rushed ending took away from the perfect ending for me, to be honest, but the entertainment value and the cool message make up for it in every way. I highly recommend it, seriously! Técnicamente, dicen que es middle-grade, o sea, para más chavos, pero ¡créanme!, los temas de identidad, la amistad, el bien y el mal... son tan profundos que cualquiera, ¡cualquiera!, los va a disfrutar, por ese mundo tan increíble que creó el autor, los personajes que no se te olvidan (¡AGATHA, TE AMO!), y una historia que te está sorprendiendo a cada rato, yo le doy a "La Escuela del Bien y del Mal" unas ¡**4 de 5**, bien puestas! Lo del final apurado le quitó el perfecto para mí, la verdad, pero lo que te entretiene y el mensaje tan chido que tiene, ¡lo compensan con todo, se los recomiendo un montón, ¡en serio!, y yo ya estoy ansioso por la secuela, espero que les haya gustado esta reseña!
