Hello everyone, I hope you're all doing great today. This time, I want to share a new review with you. I'll talk a little about a book I recently finished. I'll share my opinions on: The Stolen Heir, but first and foremost, if you haven't read Holly Black's "People of the Air" trilogy –you know, The Cruel Prince and all that– it's SO necessary that you do so before you even think about picking up this book. This is the first book in a new duology, and the thing is, it takes place like eight years after the Battle of the Serpent in The Queen of Nothing. Believe me, the story throws in so many references to things and characters from before that, if not, you're going to be super lost. It relies a lot on you already knowing what's up with all that. Going back to Elfhame was everything I expected and, at the same time... different, you know? The protagonist this time is Ren, or Soren, and her story, look, it breaks your heart from the first minute... she's the daughter of Lady Noor and Lord Gerald of the Court of Teeth, and if you remember them, ugh!, you already know that's not a good start at all, Ren is a shapeshifter, but not one of the typical ones, she was created, literally, with sticks, bones and magic... totally crazy! Then you find out that she was kidnapped from her human family and spent years suffering horrific abandonment and super hard abuse at the hands of her fae parents, she's very strong, people, and obviously, that shaped her entire way of seeing the world. She's super cynical, she distrusts everything and everyone, and she carries a sadness that I can't even imagine... you can feel it with everything on every page, the main plot starts because Ren's parents returned, regained their power and are planning a really hardcore revenge against Elfhame. They have an ancient relic that lets them create an army of undead monsters, but here comes the plot twist: there's a curse placed on Lady Noor that forces her to obey every order Ren gives her... and this, of course, puts Ren in a very important role, especially for Oak – yes, THAT Oak, Jude's little brother, now all grown up – who's on his own mission and needs Ren to stand up to his mom. >Hola a todos amigos, espero que estén super bien hoy, en esta ocasión, les quiero compartir una nueva reseña, les hablaré y poco sobre un libro que termine hace poco, les compartire mis opiniones de: The Stolen Heir, ero, ojo, antes que nada, si no han leído la trilogía de "La Gente del Aire" de Holly Black –ya saben, El Príncipe Cruel y toda esa onda– es, pero ASÍ de necesario, que lo hagan antes de siquiera pensar en agarrar este libro.. este es el primer libro de una duología nueva, y la onda es que pasa como ocho años después de la Batalla de la Serpiente en La Reina de Nada.. créanme, la historia tira tantas referencias a cosas y personajes de antes que, si no, van a estar súper perdidos.. se apoya un montón en que ya sepan qué onda con todo eso. Volver a Elfhame fue todo lo que esperaba y, al mismo tiempo... distinto, ¿saben?
La prota esta vez es Ren, o Soren, y su historia, miren, te parte el alma desde el minuto uno.. es la hija de Lady Noor y Lord Gerald de la Corte de los Dientes, y si se acuerdan de ellos, ¡uff!, ya saben que eso no es un buen comienzo para nada, Ren es una cambiante, pero no de las típicas, fue creada, literal, con palitos, huesos y magia… ¡una locura total! Después te enteras que la secuestraron de su familia humana y pasó años sufriendo un abandono espantoso y un abuso súper duro por parte de sus padres fae, es bien fuerte, gente, y obvio, eso le marcó toda su forma de ver el mundo.
Es súper cínica, desconfía a morir de todo y de todos, y carga una tristeza que ni les cuento.. se siente con todo en cada página, la trama principal arranca porque los papás de Ren volvieron, recuperaron su poder y están planeando una venganza bien hardcore contra Elfhame. Tienen una reliquia antigua que les deja crear un ejército de monstruos no-muertos, pero acá viene el plot twist: hay una maldición sobre Lady Noor que la obliga a obedecer cada orden que le da Ren.. y esto, claro, pone a Ren en un papel importantísimo, sobre todo para Oak – sí, ESE Oak, el hermanito de Jude, que ya creció y todo – que anda en su propia misión y necesita a Ren para plantarle cara a su mamá. ---  Image generated with FLUX. Improved with KREA. --- Look, this book really delves into some really dark themes. We talk about heavy stuff like family betrayal and child abuse, and we see it all through what Ren goes through. Her pain feels so real, and the fact that she can’t trust anyone is so understandable after everything she’s been through. Holly Black’s writing, as always, is brilliant. She manages to balance that constant feeling of danger and that something bad is about to happen with moments of dark humor, a romantic tension that has you on the edge of your seat, and a ton of action. The atmosphere is incredible; it truly makes you feel like you’re right there, in the frozen north or in a creepy forest. Her ability to show you all of Ren’s inner struggles is insane. I found myself underlining a ton of lines where Ren is trying to process all her trauma, and it’s written with such empathy that, wow, the Fae dialogue is Holly Black’s trademark: full of riddles, full of double entendres, because you know, they can’t lie. It keeps you so engaged, the dynamic between Ren and Oak is a HUGE part of the story… he’s charming, cunning, but their relationship is built on pure mistrust, it’s like it’s hanging by a thread, to put it mildly, but the tension between them is electric. You’re constantly wondering what their true intentions are, and so is Ren, obviously… it’s not your typical enemies-to-lovers thing you’d expect; it’s much more complicated and, honestly, more interesting because of that… for me, one of the most interesting things was how much I connected with Ren’s inner world. There's a scene where he talks about his childhood, how he tried to stop crying and his parents' cruel reaction... it's heartbreaking, seriously, Holly Black isn't afraid to show the ugliness of Ren's past, and that makes his journey feel tremendously powerful... the descriptions of the undead creatures and some of the more terrifying parts were also incredibly well done and left you feeling a bit uneasy. >Miren, este libro sí que se mete en temas bien oscuros, hablamos de cosas fuertes como traición familiar y abuso infantil, y todo lo vemos a través de lo que vive Ren, su dolor se siente tan real, y que no pueda confiar en nadie es súper entendible después de todo lo que le pasó.. la forma de escribir de Holly Black, como siempre, es una genialidad. Logra balancear esa sensación constante de peligro y de que algo malo va a pasar con momentos de humor negro, una tensión romántica que te tiene ahí, al borde del asiento, y un montón de acción, la atmósfera es increíble; en verdad que te hace sentir que estás ahí mismo, en el norte helado o en un bosque que te da cosita.. su habilidad para mostrarte todo el problemon interno de Ren, su lucha, es una cosa de locos.
Me encontré subrayando un montón de frases donde Ren está tratando de procesar todo su trauma, y está escrito con una empatía que, wow y los diálogos de los fae son el sello de Holly Black: llenos de acertijos, de cosas con doble sentido, porque ya saben, no pueden mentir. Te mantiene re atento, la dinámica entre Ren y Oak es una parte GIGANTE de la historia.. él es encantador, astuto, pero su relación se construye sobre pura desconfianza, es como que pende de un hilo, para decirlo suave, pero, la tensión que hay entre ellos es eléctrica.
Estás todo el tiempo preguntándote cuáles son sus verdaderas intenciones, y Ren también, obvio.. no es el típico "enemies-to-lovers" que uno se espera; es mucho más complicado y, sinceramente, más interesante por eso.. para mí, una de las cosas más interesantes fue lo mucho que conecté con el mundo interno de Ren. Hay una escena donde habla de su infancia, de cómo intentaba dejar de llorar y la reacción cruel de sus padres… es que te parte el alma, en serio, Holly Black no teme con mostrar lo feo del pasado de Ren, y eso hace que su viaje se sienta con una fuerza tremenda.. las descripciones de las criaturas no muertas y algunas de las partes más de terror también estuvieron súper bien logradas y te dejaban medio inquieto. ---  Created with Canva Pro. [Image Source](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/61198133-the-stolen-heir?ref=rae_1) --- Well, let's see, if I have to be a little picky or point out a few things to keep in mind, it's that this book DOES feel different from The Cruel Prince... the pace is a bit slower, especially at the beginning while they tell you what the mission is about... although there is a romantic vibe, the focus is more on the political entanglements and the whole healing process of Ren, rather than a romance that makes you cry, at least for now, which isn't bad, it's just a change of vibe that fans of the original trilogy are sure to catch on to. So, who is this book for? for anyone who LOVED "The People of the Air" .. if you like dark young adult fantasy, with complex heroines and really messed up traumas, and you love the political intrigues of the fae and the characters that are there in between, neither good nor bad, this is your book .. Ren's journey really hooks you in, and watching her deal with her past and what the future might hold is fascinating. I give The Stolen Heir a **3.8/5** stars.. although the pace sometimes felt a bit different compared to what I remembered from Jude's story, Ren is such a powerful character and one you instantly empathize with, Holly Black's pen is as gripping and dangerous as ever, and the way she gets into Ren's head is seriously brilliant, I fully recommend it if you are already a fan of this world; Just prepare for a story that, even if the setting sounds familiar, takes its own path, a very unique and, often, painful one... and well, that's all for today, we'll see you in the next reviews, take care, bye! >Bueno, a ver, si tengo que ponerme un poquito quisquilloso o marcar algunas cositas a tener en cuenta, es que este libro SÍ se siente diferente a El Príncipe Cruel.. el ritmo es un toque más lento, sobre todo al principio mientras te van contando de qué va la misión.. aunque hay onda romántica, el foco está más en los enredos políticos y en todo el proceso de sanación de Ren, más que en un romance de esos que te hacen llorar, al menos por ahora, que no está mal, solo es un cambio de onda que los fans de la trilogía original seguro van a cachar. Entonces, ¿para quién es este libro? para cualquiera que haya AMADO "La Gente del Aire".. si te gusta la fantasía juvenil oscura, con heroínas complejas y con traumas bien jodidos, y te encantan las intrigas políticas de los fae y los personajes que andan ahí en el medio, ni buenos ni malos, este es tu libro.. el viaje de Ren te engancha un montón, y verla lidiar con su pasado y con lo que le podría deparar el futuro es fascinante.
Yo a The Stolen Heir le doy un **3.8/5** estrellas.. aunque el ritmo a veces se sintió un toque diferente comparado con lo que me acordaba de la historia de Jude, Ren es un personaje tan potente y con el que empatizas al toque, la pluma de Holly Black es tan atrapante y peligrosa como siempre, y la forma en que se mete en la cabeza de Ren es, de verdad, algo genial, se los recomiendo con toda si ya son fans de este mundo; solo prepárense para una historia que, aunque el ambiente les suene familiar, agarra su propio camino, uno bien único y, muchas veces, doloroso.. y bueno, eso es todo por hoy, nos veremos en las próximas reseñas, cuidense, byebye! ---
