Hello everyone, reading fans, I hope you're all doing super well today, this time I want to share a new review with you, I'm going to talk a little about a curious book, it's: These Hollow Vows by Lexi Ryan... I was really looking forward to it, you know? Because I kept hearing it being compared to heavyweights like A Court of Thorns and Roses or The Cruel Prince, so obviously, the intrigue was at a thousand... they sell it to us as young adult fantasy, the kind with romance, adventure... let's see, it goes more or less like this: our protagonist, Brie, has her sister who, boom!, is sold to the Fae king of the Unseelie court... and Brie, who obviously hates the Fae with all her soul, has to dive headfirst into that super treacherous world to rescue her... and what's her plan?
Well, sneak into the Seelie court posing as one of the candidates to be the prince's wife, but of course, as always happens in these stories, the mission gets complicated when feelings start to emerge and, of course, a love triangle here and there... the truth is my first impression was like a roller coaster, with ups and downs! The book, from the start, immerses you right into this Fae thing, with the typical Seelie and Unseelie courts, which if you already read fantasy, well you already know it... for me, the writing style was quite good, which is great if you're looking for something to read quickly. But I have to say, the beginning felt really slow, like it took forever for things to get going. I was just waiting for that BOOM!, that hook that grabs you, and honestly, I felt like it took a while... then, bam!, at the end, it was like everything - the revelations, the twists, the climax - all came crammed together at once. Even the main plot, the rescue of Brie's sister, felt kind of rushed and like it was getting pushed to the side at times, which is weird because, hey, that's supposedly why all the trouble started!
>Hola a todos, fanáticos de la lectura, espero que estén super bien hoy, en está ocasión les quiero compartir una nueva reseña, les voy a hablar un poco sobre un libro curioso, se trata de: These Hollow Vows de Lexi Ryan.. ya le traía ganas, ¿saben? Porque no paraba de escuchar que lo comparaban con pesos pesados como Una Corte de Rosas y Espinas o El Príncipe Cruel, así que obvio, la intriga estaba a mil.. nos lo venden como fantasía juvenil, de esa con romance, aventura... a ver, la cosa va más o menos así: nuestra prota, Brie, tiene a su hermana que, ¡pum!, la venden al rey Fae de la corte Unseelie.. y Brie, que obviamente detesta a los Fae con toda su alma, tiene que meterse de cabeza en ese mundo súper traicionero para rescatarla.. y cuál es su plan?
Pues, colarse en la corte Seelie haciéndose pasar por una de las candidatas a esposa para el príncipe, pero claro, como siempre pasa en estas historias, la misión se le pone complicada cuando empiezan a surgir los sentimientos y, ¡cómo no!, un triangulito amoroso por ahí.. la verdad mi primera impresión fue como una montaña rusa, así, ¡con subidas y bajadas! El libro, de entrada, te sumerge de una en este rollo Fae, con las típicas cortes Seelie y Unseelie, que si ya leen fantasía, pues ya se la saben.. para mí, la forma de escribir estuvo bastante bien, lo que está súper bien si buscas algo para leer rapidito. Peeero, debo decir que el inicio se sintió bien lento, como que le costó un montón, que la cosa agarrara vuelo, estaba ahí, esperando ese ¡BOOM!, ese gancho que te atrapa, y la verdad, sentí que se tardó su buen rato.. luego, ¡zas!, al final, fue como si todo –las revelaciones, los giros, el clímax– se amontonara de golpe. Incluso la trama principal, lo de rescatar a la hermana de Brie, se sintió medio apurado y como que a ratos lo dejaban de lado, lo cual es raro porque, ¡epa!, se supone que por eso empezó todo el problema! ---  Image generated with FLUX. Improved with KREA. --- Okay, let’s talk about the characters, and we’re going to start with Brie… with her, oh well, I have mixed feelings, on one hand, you kind of understand her thing, I mean, she protects her sister tooth and nail and well, she was raised to never trust the Fae at all… she’s very determined but, sometimes her mental stuff was kind of repetitive, and there were times when her decisions made me want to shake her up a little… it’s not that she was completely flat, like some people say, but she wasn’t the protagonist that blew my mind either, to be honest. It was like she was kind of lost in her own world, which well, maybe it’s understandable given everything that’s going on… then, ugh!, the famous love triangle… we have the Seelie prince, Ronan, and the mysterious Finn… with Ronan, I kind of saw something brewing. It felt more or less believable, and their interactions had their jokes, their interesting things, they definitely paint him as this complex character, a bit of a jack-in-the-box, that you don't always know where he's going to come from, and that can be engaging... some say he's a bit simple, but I think he had his good moments. Finn, on the other hand, is like the typical mysterious, kind of dark side, and I understand why people say he's like Rhysand, although he does have his thing... for me, the thing with Finn felt like an instant crush, and honestly, I was left wanting more... more about where he comes from, more about why he does what he does. I think he and his gang of weirdos –who by the way, I really liked, even the elves had their vibe– deserved a lot more time in the story... I felt like we barely gave them a taste. The problem with the triangle in general, for me, was that so much mistrust and secrecy made it difficult for me to get completely hooked on any of the romances without that little voice in my head telling me to be careful, but something the book does well, very well!, is this curious theme of the characters being neither good nor bad. No one is completely good or completely bad, you know what I mean? You can understand why each one does what they do, even if it's for their own benefit or for their kingdom... it makes you wonder whose side you're on, or if there really are sides... that spices things up. >A ver, hablemos de los personajes, y vamos a empezar con Brie.. con ella, ¡ay!, tengo sentimientos encontrados, por un lado, como que entiendes su rollo, o sea, protege a su hermana con uñas y dientes y pues, la criaron para no confiar nada en los Fae.. tiene mucha determinación pero, a veces sus rollos mentales eran medio repetitivos, y hubo momentos en que sus decisiones me daban ganas de, sacudirla un poquito.. no es que fuera completamente plana, como dicen algunos, pero tampoco fue la protagonista que me volara la cabeza, la verdad. Como que andaba medio perdida en su propia onda, que bueno, tal vez y se entiende por todo lo que está pasando.. luego, ¡uff!, el famoso triángulo amoroso.. tenemos al príncipe Seelie, Ronan, y al misterioso Finn.. con Ronan, como que sí vi que se iba cocinando algo.
Se sintió más o menos creíble, y sus interacciones tuvieron su chiste, sus cositas interesantes, definitivamente lo pintan como este personaje complejo, medio caja de sorpresas, que no siempre sabes por dónde te va a salir, y eso puede enganchar.. algunos dicen que es medio simple, pero yo creo que tuvo sus buenos momentos. Finn, por otro lado, es como el típico chico misterioso, medio darks, y entiendo por qué la gente dice que se parece a Rhysand, aunque ojo, sí tiene lo suyo.. para mí, el tema con Finn se sintió medio flechazo instantáneo, y la verdad, me quedé con ganas de más.. más de dónde viene, más de por qué hace lo que hace.
Él y su bandita de raritos –que por cierto, me cayeron súper bien, hasta los duendes tenían su onda– creo que merecían mucho más tiempo en la historia.. sentí que apenas les dimos una probadita. El problema con el triángulo en general, para mí, fue que tanta desconfianza y tanto secretito hacían difícil que me enganchara al cien con alguno de los romances sin tener esa vocecita en la cabeza diciéndome ten cuidado, pero algo que el libro sí hace bien, ¡y muy bien!, es ese tema curioso de los personajes que no son ni buenos ni malos. Nadie es completamente bueno ni completamente malo, ¿me explico? Puedes entender por qué cada uno hace lo que hace, aunque sea para su propio beneficio o por su reino.. te tiene pensando de qué lado estás, o si es que de verdad hay lados.. eso, le pone más sazón a la cosa. ---  Created with Canva Pro. If you're looking for something fresh, that breaks paradigms, this is not the book for you... but if you like those things and want to see how they develop them once again, then you might have a great time... the Fae thing, of course, but the general feeling and how the characters get along, for me it was different... so, who could like this book? Look, if you're a die-hard fan of YA fantasy romance, if you love a well-presented love triangle, you're bound to find something you'll like here. It's the kind of book you pick up when you already know what you're in the mood for and want a story that delivers on those familiar touches, with its healthy dose of romantic tension and Fae politics... for me, These Hollow Vows gets about 3.5 out of 5 stars. It was a read that entertained me enough, it had me turning the pages, especially when it finally got into the swing of things... but the little details with the pacing, some of the characters' decisions that frustrated me a bit at times, and that left me wanting more meat in certain areas, prevented me from giving it a higher rating, it's entertaining, and the fact that the characters are neither good nor bad is a plus, but I would have liked a little more originality and for them to put more development into some things, it's a solid option if you're looking for a Fae romance to pass the time, but it won't be a great, well-known epic saga... and well, that's all for today, I hope you liked it, take care of yourselves! >Bueno, si hablamos de qué tan original es la cosa, pues la verdad es que These Hollow Vows se usa bastante de los clichés que ya conocemos de la fantasía juvenil con Fae.. ya saben: los dos príncipes, las cortes enemigas a morir, la chica humana que de repente cae en un mundo mágico lleno de peligros.. no es que vaya a revolucionar el género, y a ratos sí me dio la onda de que era como un licuado de otras series populares, no digo que sea una copia barata de otras cosas, pero tampoco es que traiga un montón de ideas nuevas a la mesa. Si andan buscando algo fresco, que rompa paradigmas, este no es el libro.. pero si a ustedes les gustan esas cosas y quiere ver cómo los desarrollan una vez más, pues igual y se la pasan chido.. el rollo Fae, claro que sí, pero el sentimiento general y cómo se llevan los personajes, para mí fue diferente.. entonces, ¿a quién le podría gustar este libro
Miren, si son fans a morir del romance de fantasía juvenil, si les encantan los triángulos amorosos bien presentes lo más seguro es que aquí encuentren algo que les guste. Es de ese tipo de libros que uno agarra cuando ya sabe qué se le antoja y quiere una historia que cumpla con esas cositas familiares, con su buena dosis de tensión romántica y cosas política Fae.. para mí, These Hollow Vows se queda como con unas 3.5/5 estrellas. Fue una lectura que me entretuvo lo suficiente, me tuvo pasando las páginas, sobre todo cuando por fin agarró ritmo.. pero los detallitos con el ritmo, algunas decisiones de los personajes que a veces me frustraban un poco, y que me quedé con ganas de más carnita en ciertas áreas, pues impidieron que le diera una nota más alta, entretiene, y eso de los personajes que no son ni buenos ni malos es un puntazo a favor, pero sí me hubiera gustado un poquito más de originalidad y que le metieran más desarrollo a algunas cosas, es una opción sólida si buscan un romance Fae para pasar el rato, pero no será una gran saga epica muy conocida.. y bueno, esto es todo por hoy, espero que les haya gustado, cuidense mucho! ---
