En esta temporada la final se jugará en el Puskas Arena, en Budapest, capital de Hungría. Los mejores clubes de Europa en la temporada pasada se ganaron el derecho de estar en esta edición de la máxima competición a nivel de clubes.

A inicio de este sorteo, el presidente de la UEFA, Alexander Zeferin entregó el premio de la UEFA al sueco Zlatan Ibrahimovic, toda una leyenda dentro de la Champions, que sin embargo nunca pudo ganarla. Los nuevos invitados igualmente se espera que tengan un debut bastante modesto en la competición.
Los favoritos a llevarse la maxima competición de clubes son nuevamente el Real Madrid, máximo ganador de la justa europea, el PSG como vigente campeón del torneo, el Chelsea como vigente campeón del Mundial de Clubes y el FC Barcelona que tiene un núcleo sólido de jugadores y que la temporada pasada se quedó a las puertas de la final.
