Hola a toda la comunidad de Full Deportes, escribo estas líneas con toque de honestidad, sin que me quede nada por dentro. Creo que jamás en la vida, en los años que llevo viendo deporte cubano, había visto algo parecido. Es una pena decir que un ciclo termina y otro comienza, pero en nuestro caso, ni siquiera ese ciclo puede comenzar cuando estás presenciando la decadencia de ese proyecto.

Históricamente, el boxeo en Cuba ha sido considerado como el buque insignia del deporte cubano. Después del béisbol, es el deporte de más seguimiento acá en Cuba. Por años hemos tenido figuras de nivel, con una extraclase faena de medallistas mundiales y olímpicos. Si bien, hoy nuestros principales exponentes dentro del cuadrilátero no radiquen en Cuba, seguimos sacando boxeadores de a montón.

Sin embargo, toda dinastía en el mundo tiene 3 fases, nacimiento, auge y decadencia. Desgraciadamente nuestro boxeo se encuentra en etapa de decadencia, más yo tengo fe en que saldremos de este pequeño bache en el que caímos, y volveremos más fuertes. Dicho esto, quisiera contarles el por qué de mi post, y por qué todo lo que hablé previamente.

Nos encontramos inmersos en el campeonato mundial de boxeo de la WBA, en donde aseguramos 3 medallas, pero ninguna es de oro o plata. Nuestros 3 representantes cayeron en sus respectivas peleas, dejando mucho que desear sobre el ring. Ya en los Juegos Olímpicos de París, vivimos la amarga experiencia de que solo pudimos conseguir un título bajo 5 aros.

Ahora nos despedimos de un mundial sin títulos. Me resulta vergonzoso que sea los mismos de siempre, los de mejor cartel y resultados, y no salga una figura dentro de nuestra escuadra que se apriete los guantes y salga a pelear. De todas las derrotas, me dolió más la del campeón olímpico Erislandy Álvarez, pudo hacer más ante el brasileño, pero el sudamericano fue bastante superior al vencerle por 4-1.

A pesar de que haya perdido, me quito el sombrero con Julio César La Cruz, se batió cara a cara con el mejor de la división y aunque la decisión quedó divida 3-2 a favor del púgil kazajo, la sombra demostró que a sus 37 años sigue teniendo esa fibra para vencer. Considero que se debe hacer una completa renovación en la escuadra cubana de boxeo, sacar nuevos talentos, foguearlos y que sean ese futuro que a día de hoy se ve muy incierto.

Boxing Underperformed at the Liverpool World Championship
Hello to the entire Full Deportes community, I write these lines with a touch of honesty, leaving nothing inside. I believe that I have never seen anything like this in my life, in all the years I have been watching Cuban sports. It is a shame to say that one cycle ends and another begins, but in our case, not even that cycle can start when you are witnessing the decline of that project.
Historically, boxing in Cuba has been considered the flagship of Cuban sports. After baseball, it is the second most followed sport here in Cuba. For years, we have had top-level figures, with an outstanding track record of world and Olympic medalists. Even though our main representatives in the ring do not currently reside in Cuba, we continue to produce boxers in abundance.
However, every dynasty in the world has three phases: birth, peak, and decline. Unfortunately, our boxing is in a stage of decline, but I have faith that we will overcome this small bump we have fallen into and return stronger. That said, I would like to explain why I am posting this and why I mentioned everything earlier.
We are immersed in the WBA World Boxing Championship, where we secured three medals, but none are gold or silver. Our three representatives lost their respective fights, leaving much to be desired in the ring. Already at the Paris Olympic Games, we faced the bitter experience of only being able to secure one title under the five rings. Now we bid farewell to a world championship without any titles. It is embarrassing that it is the same old names, those with the best records and results, and no new figure emerges from our squad to tighten their gloves and step into the ring.
Of all the defeats, the one that hurt me the most was that of Olympic champion Erislandy Álvarez; he could have done more against the Brazilian, but the South American was quite superior, defeating him 4-1. Despite his loss, I take my hat off to Julio César La Cruz; he fought face-to-face with the best in the division, and although the decision was split 3-2 in favor of the Kazakh boxer, "The Shadow" proved that at 37 years old, he still has that grit to win.
I believe a complete renewal is necessary for the Cuban boxing team; we need to bring in new talents, give them exposure, and ensure they become the future that today looks very uncertain.
