Hello fellow Hive travelers! Today I want to mark a new place on our world map ❤️ It's the Sacred Museum of Caracas. I rarely visit museums, but I think this one is worth it. This place is divided into two parts, and during Holy Week I had the opportunity to visit one of them, the Archbishopric of Caracas, which is also the other half of the museum. As you can see in this first photo above, the facade is very normal, humble, and colonial; it is located next to the Cathedral of Caracas, but it hides Catholic wonders and relics, which is special for believers like me.
¡Hola amigos viajeros de Hive!. Hoy quiero marcar un nuevo lugar en nuestro mapamundi ❤️ Se trata del Museo Sacro de Caracas. Pocas veces visito museos, pero creo que este vale la pena, además de que este lugar se divide en dos partes y en la Semana Santa tuve la oportunidad de visitar una de ellas, el Arzobispado de Caracas, que de igual modo es la otra mitad del museo. Como pueden ver en esta primera fotografía de arriba, la fachada es muy normal, humilde y colonial; está ubicada al lado de la Catedral de Caracas, pero en ella se esconden maravillas y reliquias católicas, lo cual es especial para creyentes como yo.
Despite having little space, it is really a visually pleasing place, and in fact it turned out to be larger than I thought. Upon entering, you can see a large main courtyard that is not covered, but when you get closer, you realize that it is an old cemetery, the former cemetery of the Cathedral of Caracas, accompanied by some stone angel sculptures that guard this small pantheon. It is a cool and very quiet place, and around it are the rooms where the museum's art is exhibited.
A pesar de contar con poco espacio, realmente es un lugar agradable visualmente hablando, y de hecho resultó ser más grande de lo que pensaba. Al entrar se puede apreciar un gran patio principal que no está techado, pero cuando te acercas bien, te das cuenta que es un antiguo cementerio, el antiguo cementerio de la Catedral de Caracas, acompañado de algunas esculturas de ángeles de piedra que custodian este pequeño panteón. Es un lugar fresco y muy tranquilo, y a su alrededor se encuentran las salas donde se exhiben el arte del museo.
Some things impressed me more than others, such as a huge painting of the Virgin of Guadalupe that reminded me of the original version found in Mexico, and also the extraordinary bust of St. Francis of Assisi that you can see in the photographs above. His gaze is truly penetrating. The entire place is neat in design and cleanliness, well maintained, and very secure. You can take photographs, but as in many places, the use of camera flash is prohibited.
Algunas cosas me impresionaron más que otras, como una enorme pintura de la Virgen de Guadalupe que me hizo recordar la versión original que se encuentra en México, y también el extraordinario busto de San Francisco de Asís que pueden apreciar en las fotografías de arriba. Realmente la mirada es penetrante. Todo el lugar está pulcro en diseño y limpieza, bien cuidado y con mucha seguridad. Se pueden tomar fotografías, pero como en muchos lugares está prohibido usar el flash de la cámara.
Relics, paintings, sculptures, and even a crypt can be found in this museum, and there is also a small café, Café Sacro, which makes the adventure even more special. There is a small side courtyard overlooking the Cathedral of Caracas where you can see some flowers, and on that particular day, the manager was talking to some people about renovations. I overheard this by chance, so I must return on a future occasion. In fact, I should bring my wife to see this museum, as this time I was accompanied by my mother and brother, with whom I shared this dream trip last week.
Reliquias, pinturas, esculturas, e incluso una cripta es lo que podemos encontrar en este museo, y de hecho hay un cafetín, el Café Sacro, y todo ello hace que la aventura sea muy especial. Hay un pequeño patio lateral que da con la Catedral de Caracas donde se pueden apreciar algunas flores y justo ese día el gerente hablaba de unas remodelaciones con unas personas, fue algo que escuché por casualidad, así que debo volver en una futura ocasión, que de hecho debería llevar a mi esposa para que conozca este museo, ya que esta vez fui acompañado de mi mamá y mi hermano, con quienes compartí este viaje de ensueño la semana pasada.
Perhaps because it is an old Caracas cemetery, it feels lonely and somewhat gloomy, but it also feels peaceful and mysterious because it is part of the Caracas Cathedral in a way. There are many references to deceased saints and ancient figures of the Catholic religion, all presented with an interesting combination of colonial and modern architecture. In my opinion, the only thing that was a little annoying was that there was no air conditioning, but we all know that it is very difficult to install it in such old structures.
Quizás por tratarse de un antiguo cementerio caraqueño, se siente un ambiente solitario y algo sombrío, pero también se siente lleno de paz y de misterios por ser parte en cierta forma de la Catedral de Caracas. Hay mucha referencia a santos difuntos y antiguas personalidades de la religión católica, todo presentado con una interesante combinación entre arquitectura colonial y arquitectura moderna. En mi opinión lo único que fue un poco molesto fue que no hubiera aire acondicionado, pero ya sabemos que en estas estructuras tan antiguas es muy complicado poder instalarlos.
The last part of the tour was definitely the gloomiest, but I really loved it. It's a very dark area of the museum, lit by a few artificial candles and very dim light bulbs. That area is kept exactly as it was in ancient times, full of stones, and at the end of it, where you can see a cross and some candles, there is a mass grave where you can see ancient human remains. None of us three expected to visit a place like this that day, and we discovered that this museum is not just about art.
La última parte del recorrido definitivamente fue la más sombría, pero a mí realmente me encantó. Es una zona muy oscura del museo, alumbrada con algunas velas artificiales y bombillos muy tenues. Esa zona la mantienen tal cual como en la antigüedad, llena de piedras, y al final de ella, donde se aprecia una cruz y unas velas hay una fosa común donde se pueden apreciar antiguos restos humanos. Definitivamente ninguno de los tres esperábamos visitar un lugar como este ese día, y descubrimos que este museo no es solo arte.
Just as we were in that dark, secluded room in the lower part of the museum, we could hear voices praying from the window next to the stone inscription in the photo above. It turns out we were right below the Cathedral of Caracas, and it was time for mass. It is definitely a place that makes a big impression on visitors, especially believers. I am very happy to have discovered this place and experienced this adventure. I had wanted to visit it for a long time, but I never imagined what was inside. Justo cuando estábamos en ese cuarto oscuro, retirado y en la zona más baja del museo, en esa ventana que estaba junto al escrito en piedra de la fotografía de arriba se podía escuchar voces rezando. Resulta que estábamos justo debajo de la Catedral de Caracas y era el momento de la misa. Definitivamente es un lugar de gran impacto para quienes lo visiten, especialmente para los creyentes. Me alegra mucho haber conocido este lugar y vivir esta aventura. Tenía mucho tiempo con ganas de visitarlo, pero no imaginé todo lo que había ahí dentro. Esa zona la mantienen tal cual como en la antigüedad, llena de piedras, y al final de ella, donde se aprecia una cruz y unas velas hay una fosa común donde se pueden apreciar antiguos restos humanos. Definitivamente ninguno de los tres esperábamos visitar un lugar como este ese día, y descubrimos que este museo no es solo arte.

Justo cuando estábamos en ese cuarto oscuro, retirado y en la zona más baja del museo, en esa ventana que estaba junto al escrito en piedra de la fotografía de arriba se podía escuchar voces rezando. Resulta que estábamos justo debajo de la Catedral de Caracas y era el momento de la misa. Definitivamente es un lugar de gran impacto para quienes lo visiten, especialmente para los creyentes. Me alegra mucho haber conocido este lugar y vivir esta aventura. Tenía mucho tiempo con ganas de visitarlo, pero no imaginé todo lo que había ahí dentro.
