Splinterlands is a complex game and it allows for various different cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various different rulesets applied and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because my opponent used Portly Cannoneer.
Featured cards
Swamp Spitter is a water splinter that costs 7 mana. This splinter starts with the repair ability. It learns giant killer at level 5. I think this is a fairly good card because it has repair, and thaat can be quite useful depending on the match rulessets.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan
The ruleset this time is Equalizer, Keep Your Distance, and Counterspell. This means that all monsters start off with the same health, no melee monsters can be used, and all monsters gain the magic reflect ability. There is also 35 mana available, and I can use fire, water, life, or death splinter.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Kelya Frendul | 4 | Summoner | +1 armor and speed |
Gargoya Devil | 7 | 1st | Flying and Close Range |
Venari Wavesmith | 5 | 2nd | Protect |
Kulu Swimhunter | 4 | 3rd | |
Supply Runner | 6 | 4th | |
Merdaali Guardian | 3 | 5th | Tank heal |
Swamp Spitter | 7 | 6th | Repair |
Total Mana: | 36 |
I use Kelya Frendul as my summoneer for the +1 speed and armor. Gargoya Devil is my tank with close range and flying. Venari Wavesmith is my 2nd monster with protect. Then I have some damage dealers and support monsters. I have one tank healer and Swamp Spitter as my support monsters.
My plan is to keep my tank alive while dealing damage with the rest of my lineup. Gargoya Devil works well as my main tank because it has the flying ability so it can dodge quite a few attacks. I thought that having one magic monster isn't a bad choice as the extra armor could soak in a few attacks against me. The ranged damage dealers are there to deal damage, and the healer/repair monster will help keep my monsters alive.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that the match could go either way. My opponent has a massive speed advantage due to swiftness and the level advantage, and it will depend on whether or not I can kill off enough monsters.
Round 8
My opponents and I traded blows, and we are both down to 2 monsters each. This is my win though because my opponent only has 1 monster that can attack, and my repair will stop that damage.
I ended up winning this match a few rounds later as I expected.
Conclusion
The battle this time played out as I expected. My opponent had a level advantage over me, so things looked bleak at the start. However, the repair and heals did the job in keeping my monsters long enough to win. It's all about trying to build the best lineup with what you have available.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
