Splinterlands Social Media Challenge: A'lan Musketeer is great in Tis but Scratches

Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game with interesting battles, with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. This week is about a great fight where I won because I used A'lan Musketeer.

Featured cards

image.png A'lan Musketeer is a neutral monster that costs 8 mana. It only has the double strike ability, but I think it is a fairly good card in Frontier. I got this card a few weeks ago, and I have noticed that it's a good addition because it is neutral and it can be placed in most fights if I need it. I only have this card at level 1, but the level 2 version of this card is looking amazing, as it would gain another ranged attack.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

rule set.png

The ruleset this time is Tis but Scratches and Heavy Hitters. This means that all monsters gain the cripple and knock-out ability. There is also 32 mana available, and I can use fire or death splinter.

Splinter Mana Cost Position Reason
Thalgrimore 6 Summoner -1 Health
Nim Guard Captain 7 1st Void
Spellmonger 4 2nd Thorns
Sorrow Harvester 7 3rd Weaken
A'lan Musketeer 8 5th Double Strike
Total Mana: 32

I use Thalgrimore as my summoner for the -1 health. I have Nim Guard Captain as my tank because it has the void ability. After that is Spellmonger is a backup tank, and it has thorns. I use Sorrow Harvester for the weaken. A'lan Musketeer is my last monster for the double strike.

My plan is to have Nim Guard Captain as my first tank because the void reduces magic damage, and it has decent armor to survive melee or physical attacks. When I combine Spellmonger and Sorrow Harvester, most opportunity monsters will die in one attack. Sorrow Harvester also works well as a magic damage dealer. A'lan Musketeer is great in this fight because the double strike will also count as double cripple. So it makes it quite powerful as it helps me reduce the monsters on my opponent's side.

Round 1

round 1.png At first glance, I think that I have the advantage in this match due to my lineup. First off, my opponent is using an opportunity monster, so the damage that I will take will drop after it dies from counter damage. The rest of our lineups are similar, but I have A'lan Musketeer on my side to help deal damage. So I don't think there is a chance of losing unless I miss too many attacks.

Round 4

round 4.png My opponent and I were trading blows, but my opponent is down one more monster compared to me. At this point, there is no way for me to lose as A'lan Musketeer will not miss as much as I.

Conclusion

The battle this time did play out as I planned, and my choice of A'lan Musketeer gave me an incredible advantage. My opponent was using an opportunity monster, and I think that was his biggest downfall. My combination of Sorrow Harvester and Spellmonger killed off that opportunity monster in one attack. A'lan Musketeer was such a good monster in this fight, as the double attack meant a double cripple. This let me kill off my opponent's tank faster, and this gave me a slightly better edge over my opponent as well. Depending on how you use cards, some abilities can be more useful. I found that A'lan Musketeer was overall a good damage dealer, and it can be used in various different fights as a neutral monster.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
