Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge that can be found in this week's post. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because they get to learn about the game. In this week's challenge, we talk about using cleanse to remove the poison in Noxious Fumes to win the match.
Noxious Fumes Ruleset
The Noxious Fumes is an interesting ruleset because there are so many options available. In this ruleset, every single monster is poisoned, and poisoned units lose 2 health every turn. Immunity is the first way to avoid being poisoned, and this is the option that I see most people use in fights. The other way to remove poison is to cleanse or revive through an ability.
For me, I tend to use immunity when possible, and I try to buff up that immune monster with abilities such as martyr when possible. I rarely use monsters with cleanse, and I also rarely see anyone use cleanse in most of the fights. For this post, I will be talking about a cleanse monster that I used, and it let me win the match.
Featured cards
River Nymph is a water monster that costs 4 mana. It starts with cleanse. It learns amplify at level 4 and swiftness at level 8. I actually have this card at gold foil level 2, and it's a nice low mana monster with cleanse for this ruleset.
Battle
The ruleset this time is Little League, Broken Arrows, and Noxious Fumes. This means that no ranged monsters can be used, all monsters start poisoned, and cards with a cost greater than 4 can't be used. I can use water, earth, life or death splinter.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Prunda Undervesch | 3 | Summoner | |
Chaos Rear Guard | 4 | 1st | Shield |
Xenith Monk | 4 | 2nd | Heal |
Time Mage | 4 | 3rd | Slow |
Truthspeaker | 3 | 4th | Protect |
River Nymph | 4 | 5th | Cleanse |
Merdaali Guardian | 3 | 6th | Tank Heal |
Total Mana: | 25 |
I use Prunda Undervesch as my summoner for the duo water and life units. Chaos Rear Guard is my first tank with shield. After that is Xenith Monk with heal. Time mage has slow, and Truth Speaker has protect. River Nymph is there for the cleanse, and Merdaali Guardian is there for the tank heal to keep my tank alive.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that this match is my win. My opponent can't outlast me, and it won't be able to kill off my tank in time either because I have a healer, and it should be able to outlast my opponent. The opportunity monster that my opponent has won't target my healer until the very end.
Round 6
My opponent has 4 monsters left, and I am left with 2, but it is impossible for him to deal any damage to me, and if my tank lands a hit, then it will do more than my opponent can heal in a turn. The opportunity monsters will die to poison, so it's impossible for him to deal any daamge. It's my win.
I ended up a round later because I didn't miss and the poison finished off the rest.
You can see my entire match here.
Conclusion
The battle this time did play out as I expected, and cleanse did a good job of keeping my tank alive. With it, there wasn't much my opponent could do, and the other support abilities did a good job of keeping my monsters alive. Depending on how you use a card, it can be quite useful, and I rarely see people use cleanse so I would think about it the next time you are in a fight where it could be useful.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
