Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge that can be found in this week's post. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because they get to learn about the game. In this week's challenge, we talk about a good battle with Captain Fellblade.

Featured cards

image.png Captain Fellblade is a water splinter that costs 8 mana. This splinter starts with the sneak ability. It learns the strengthen ability at level 3. This card is quite good, but I don't use it too often. However, the duo magic and melee damage can add up. It is also decently fast by targeting the backline.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

rule set.png

The ruleset this time is Standard. This means that there are no extra effects, and it's a normal battle. There is also 53 mana available, and I can use water, earth, life, or death splinter.

Splinter Mana Cost Position Reason
Marlai Singariel 6 Summoner +1 Magic
Commander Slade 10 1st Dodge and Enfeeble
Thanalorian Scion 5 2nd Void Armor
Captain Fellblade 8 3rd Sneak
Grimbardun Smith 6 4th Immunity
Daarg Deadblast 7 5th Swiftness and Weapons Training
Ulundin Overseer 11 6th
Total Mana: 53

I use Marlai Singariel as my summoner because of the +1 magic damage. Commander Slade is my tank for its dodge and enfeeble ability. Thanalorian Scion is my backup tank with void armor. Captain Fellblade is my third monster for its stats and sneak. I have Daarg Deadblast in my 5th spot with swiftness and weapons training with two non-attacking monsters on the side for the extra damage from weapons training.

My strategy is to use the first few monsters to delay my opponent while the rest of my lineup deals damage. My focus was on magic monsters to take advantage of the +1 magic from my summoner, and Captain Fellblade has sneak to do some damage against the backline in case I do need it. I have Ulundin Overseer in the last spot because of its high stats, so it can tank any sneak monsters on my opponent's side.

Round 1

round 1.png At first glance, I think that I have the disadvantage in this fight. My opponent has a bunch of support abilities, higher-level monsters, and a taunt monster. It is going to be a very rough match for me. I do have plenty of damage so I still have a chance in this fight though.

Round 3

round 3.png My opponent has lost his tankier monsters, and I have only lost 1 monster. Captain Fellblade has been doing a great job because taking out that healer in the back allowed me to kill off quite a few monsters. The repair isn't going to help my opponent too much due to the magic monsters, so this match is my win.

conclusion.png I ended up winning this match later that round as I expected.

Conclusion

The battle this time did play out as I expected. Using a bunch of magic monsters allowed me to kill off quite a few of my opponent's tankier monsters. At the same time, Captain Fellblade, when combined with my +1 magic summoner, allowed it to wipe out the healer. After this healer died, my opponent lost monsters even faster, and this allowed me to expand my damage advantage over my opponent. The rest of my damage was focused on the tank, and that was a great choice because my opponent had quite a few tanky monsters. I wasn't expecting a win, but my lineup ended up pulling through and I have to say that Captain Fellblade did more than I expected.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
