Hey there Nugget,

It’s only been six weeks or so since I last wrote to you but both Mom and I feel like you have grown up a lot. Here’s a list of things you are very good at now:

  • Long sentences: “I want blueberries” or “Dada sit down there.”
  • Picking up things and putting them away (like your laundry).
  • Saying your full name.
  • Matching shapes to slots.
  • Singing parts of songs.
  • Naming and pointing to almost anything in your books.
  • Being without Mom and Dad for a long time.

And so much more. You’re basically a full blown toddler with a lot of language and smarts. And you’re not even two years old yet. It is very fun to watch you and play with you.

I mentioned that we would be going on a trip. We recently got back from visiting Dad’s side of the family in another part of the country. We rode on an airplane (your fourth time) and you did just great.

Every day we did something fun. Twice, you let your grandparents take care of you overnight so Mom and Dad could do something with friends or family after you fell asleep. We went to a big science centre and you ran around everywhere. We went to a beach and you jumped in the water. We walked through a sunflower maze and had lunch at a winery. There was a farm with rocking horses everywhere… also some ducks you liked and lambs you did not like. You met a very big poodle who is your cousin, you found a giant playground, and met some very friendly house rabbits (this may have been your favourite part of the trip).

There were lots of morning bottles on the deck in Nanny’s garden. There were many giggles (and squealy-screams) with Poppy. You made your Oji laugh a lot. You hung out with aunts, uncles, cousins, second cousins, and many other relations I’m likely missing.

It was very fun. Mom and Dad are tired, and you’re also asleep now. Tomorrow more friends will visit us on the last day of the long weekend. Then it’s back to daycare for you, where you will keep learning and growing up. It won’t be long until you’ll be having full conversations with us.

Can’t wait!

Much love, Dad

This series of blogs is to catalog the memories, milestones, and reflections of parenthood. Perhaps one day you (the Nug) will be curious to read them! In the meantime, they’re a nice way for Dad to process this whole parenting thing. He’s a writer, so putting words out into the world is relaxing, therapeutic, and fun.
