Happy Autumn Nugget,
It is the season of your birth! This time around, you’re so much more aware of the world around you and all the fun things to play with and discover.
I am writing to you only three weeks or so after the last time I wrote. Like last time, your Mom and I think you’ve grown up so much since then.
One thing I forgot to talk about last time was your mobility. That is: how much you can move around by yourself. Here’s some of the things you do really well:
- Climb up on the couch and sometimes even the bed
- Walk or climb on playgrounds and go down the slides
- Dance! (“Wiggle wiggle bum.”)
- Run around and hide
- Get into (or out of) your stroller
- Take off clothes
- Put away laundry and toys
You’re also getting very good at singing your favourite songs. You can complete the lyrics if we say part of them. Currently, many classics are in rotation: Old MacDonald, Itsy Bitsy Spider, ABC’s, Wheels on the Bus. You’ve helped Mom and Dad discover a fantastic new genre of music as well called Toddler Techno. The current hit is Chicken Banana. Many kids of all ages like this one and so do you.
Talking… wow the talking. We are now basically having conversations. 10-word sentences are not uncommon. Generally we can figure out what you want or need when you tell us. It’s all very exciting. “Where are we?” is a favourite phrase. Unfortunately, you’re also in a screeching era where you just shriek at top volume when excited or feeling naughty. We tell you to stop and that it hurts our ears, but you don’t really listen.
What else? We saw our cousins and picked apples with them. Some friends all the way from Australia came to visit us too. We’re dealing with a biter at daycare (you’re getting bit by a friend it seems) and the occasional sickness.
Overall, things are wonderful. Next time I write, I think it will be closer to Halloween. I know what we have for your costume… it’s going to be fun!
Much love as always, Dad
This series of blogs is to catalog the memories, milestones, and reflections of parenthood. Perhaps one day you (the Nug) will be curious to read them! In the meantime, they’re a nice way for Dad to process this whole parenting thing. He’s a writer, so putting words out into the world is relaxing, therapeutic, and fun.
