Finally an entry for this week! This art took a while because one, the shading, and two my thumb is hurting because of playing haha. My fingers are a bit in pain because of too much grip on the Joycon. But I feel better now, so don't worry. 😁
For this week's entry, I chose Lensmaster! Consecutively I am drawing male characters, so to switch it up, I chose a male card and turn him into a female character. 😉
Art Process
Using a soft brush, I conceptualized first the female version of Lensmaster. Using the help of this reference, it is easier to draw the pose with a reference. So I really intended to put the eyes in the center of the white canvas. I used an "expression color" layer so that whatever color I use on that specific layer, will be color blue.
On another layer on top, I used the vector layer using a soft flat brush called Ri Lineart, a free downloadable brush from the Asset store. On another layer on top, I clipped it and recolor it. This is actually done after the base color.
I used unsaturated colors for the base color. I chose colors that are close to the original card. I feel like female characters with a tie have this badass vibe he he. 😆 The white clothing is not actually really white but off-white. I put some guide lines on the hair for hair sectioning. I first did the skin shading. A little reddish brown to emphasize the edges of the eyes.
This is the tedious part of the art, the shading. Before, I use an airbrush for shading, and then I stumbled upon many drawing tutorials, especially anime style that uses a soft brush similar to oil brushes. Since then I am practicing to use these brushes for shading. I used 3 shades plus a shade for the shine. This is also applied to the clothing. Aside from the hair, the folding of the hair is a bit tedious. Good thing I have a nice playlist in Spotify while shading. 😅
After shading, I added another layer to put the eye lens. I use the shape tool to draw a circle and then set the layer on "screen". The metal string attached to the lens is a special brush downloaded, which saved me time making a one-by-one chain.
I put a layer on top and set it on glow. I added a pink glow since the original card is holding a pink gem, I shaded the lower part with a darker pink and set it to multiply.
Final Art
I was thinking of broken shards to make the picture whole. As if the gems are broken and shards are all over. I blur some shards, especially on the front. On the lens, I put some reflection of the shards, hehe. It was added last minute.
On top of everything, I added a texture and then lower the opacity.
