Hello! ✨
For this week, I chose Pallus to draw in my art style! 😁
H
I cannot find any lengthy lore about Pallus, but according to Splinterlore, Pallus is "the loyal tower griffin mount of Riklauniman Adrin’eth." Very short description, but I know at first glance that this creature is a griffin, half bird and half four-legged animal.
Art Process
- sketch and line art
First is to find a Griffin reference from Pinterest. It was not hard to find one, but my problem was the angle. I found some nice references, but it was the only problem. After a few scrolls, I think I found the perfect one. 😁 I used a blue pencil for the sketch. It was confusing at first because of the feathers coz I am not good in making random feathers. I then used a pencil textured brush for the line art. I did not realize until I save the frames by frames that I airbrushed the same layer as the line art. It was not a problem at all, luckily.
- base color and shading
I just a tool called color picker for the base colors. I just copied it from the orignal art and then applied them one by one. I thought of using different shades of browns for the head and body. I then clipped another layer on top for the shading. I used a different downloaded brush for the shadign this time. Every now and then, I try to use new downloaded brushes. I something forget that I have few brushes on my tools. I used some of the Clippy points to buy some brushes before it expires. I find some nice shading brushes for clothes but then I also wanted to try it on different textures like feathers.
For the next layer, I used a deeper color for the airbrush in multiply mode. I was using the color range from light orange to dark brown for the feathers and for the lower body, I used white to dark gray. I used the same brush as the feathers for the lower part. Next, I used a hard airbrush for the light and for the glow on the back light. I used another layer in multiply mode to make it darker for the against the light effect. At this stage, I was slowly building the background. The idea was rocks, sands, and deserts. I started with the dark color since this will be against the light, I just used a solid cell brush and later on added more details.
Final Art
It was always a struggle for me to imagine how the light would affect the subject, especially when it is against the light. I always searched for references for the background on these matters. I used blur brushes for the background depths. I was about to give up coz It was hard to draw the sands against the light. As a whole, it was difficult to match the subject and the sand, haha. But I should not be hard on myself, right? Haha. I managed to finish this before the day ended, and I was happy to do so. Lastly, I used a special brush bokeh for some detail.
Tadaaa! I hope I imparted some knowledge through my art process! 😊 Feel free to ask anything in the comment section, and I will answer to the best of my skill!! 🥳💕
