Yesterday morning, Sunday, around 2:00 AM, the town's valley suffered a severe thunderstorm accompanied by torrential rains that lasted more than two hours and strong winds. In addition to all this severe weather, we also had a prolonged power outage that lasted about twelve hours. So, Montalbán, like so many other times, woke up to very wet conditions, overcast skies, no electricity, and no internet or phone service. So, with nothing to do at home and after drinking a delicious hot coffee, I grabbed my camera and went exploring the streets as usual! 🙂
La madrugada de ayer Domingo, cerca de as 2:00 AM el valle del pueblo sufrió una fuerte tormenta eléctrica acompañada de lluvias torrenciales que duraron más de dos horas y fuertes vientos. Además de todo este clima severo, también tuvimos un largo fallo en el servicio eléctrico que se extendió por unas doce horas. Así que Montalbán, como otras tantas veces, despertó muy húmedo, con cielos encapotados, sin electricidad y sin servicios de internet ni telefonía... ¡Así que, sin nada que hacer en casa y después de tomar un delicioso café caliente, tomé mi cámara y me fui a recorrer las calles como siempre!... 🙂

And as always, the town was full of photos; and I tried to photograph as much as possible under that flat and eloquent light typical of days with overcast skies... And the people were being their usual selves, although almost all of them were talking about the early morning storm and its consequences... There were also some jokingly saying: "Here when there's a storm we have blackouts" and then another person would ask: And when there's no storm? and the first one would answer "We have blackouts too!" and then burst out laughing... That's how it is!... 🤷♂ ... But anyway, the truth is that from my point of view, purely photographic I mean, it was a morning full of diverse images, charged with eloquence and that "existential magic" that street photos usually have, especially when they are turned into black and white...
Y como siempre, el pueblo estaba repleto de fotos; y yo intenté fotografiar todo lo posible bajo esa luz plana y elocuente típica de los días con cielos encapotados... Y las personas estaban siendo como siempre, aunque hablaban casi todas sobre la tormenta de la madrugada y sus consecuencias... También había algunos diciendo en tono de broma: "Aquí cuando hay tormenta tenemos apagones" y entonces otra persona preguntaba: ¿Y cuando no hay tormenta? y el primero respondía ¡También tenemos apagones! y luego soltaba una carcajada... ¡Así es esto!... 🤷♂ ... Pero en fin, lo cierto es que desde mi punto de vista, puramente fotográfico quiero decir, fue una mañana repleta de imágenes diversas, cargadas de elocuencia y esa "magia existencial" que suelen tener las fotos callejeras, en especial cuando se les vira al blanco y negro...

I took photos until almost 10:00 AM and returned home, then played with my cats and dogs, I was at my mother's house after lunch and at the end of the afternoon, when we finally had electricity again, I dedicated myself to reviewing these photos... It was a "Slow Sunday", one of those days where each hour seemed to last twice as long... That's how it is here, I repeat...
Hice fotos hasta casi las 10:00 AM y volví a casa, jugué luego con mis gatos y mis perros, estuve en casa de mi madre después de almorzar y ya al final de la tarde, cuando finalmente tuvimos electricidad de nuevo, me dediqué a revisar estas fotos... Fue un "Domingo lento", uno de esos días en donde cada hora pareció durar el doble... Así es esto aquí, repito...

ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL NOTE: Photographs captured with my Nikon D7000 DSLR camera in RAW format, then processed in Adobe Camera RAW for adjustments regarding light, sharpening, contrast and depth... They were then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape v3.7
NOTA TÉCNICA ADICIONAL: Fotografias capturadas con mi cámara DSLR Nikon D7000 en formato RAW, procesadas posteriormente en Adobe Camera RAW para ajustes relativos a luz, afilado, contraste y profundidad... Luego fueron exportadas a formato JGP sobre el cual se llevaron a cabo modificaciones menores como enderezado y agregado de marcas de agua usando PhotoScape v3.7
