Today I invite you to take a look at this series of black and white photographs, based on what I like to call "my close vision," which occurs when my perception of the environment focuses on more specific details... This is a type of photography where I explore the eloquence of proximity, whether in nature or on the streets. Sometimes close-up photos can be a creature, other times an abstraction... The old, the new, metal, wood, the living, the dead... There are no specific criteria for getting close when the important thing is precisely "being very close"...
Hoy los invito a dar una mirada a esta serie de fotografías en blanco y negro, basada eso que me gusta llamar "mi visión cercana", algo lo cual ocurre cuando mi percepción del entorno apunta a detalles más puntuales... Este es un tipo de fotografía en donde exploro la elocuencia de la cercanía ya sea en la naturaleza o en las calles. Algunas veces las fotos cercanas pueden ser una criatura, otras veces una abstracción... Lo viejo, lo nuevo, el metal, la madera, lo vivo, lo muerto... No hay un criterio específico para acercarse cuando lo importante es precisamente "estar muy cerca"...

Strange things certainly happen to me. One day I pass in front of an old dead tree and in it I see the face of a horrible creature screaming (📷 01)... Another day I observe in the distance a possum high up in a tree and as I approach to see it better, the friendly animal comes down to the branches almost at the height of my face and gives me a beautiful portrait (📷 02)... I go to my mother's garden to see the Pitahaya flowers before sunrise (because these flowers close when they receive sunlight) and inside one of them I find a bee that turns and turns without landing on the pistils full of pollen (📷 03), as if it were amazed by the natural opulence it observes... Even a spiderweb full of dew (📷 04), is a magical universe to look at against the light of a horizon covered by white mists... And don't even mention taking a look inside an old abandoned vehicle on a lonely street (📷 05) and imagine that his rearview mirror might be a machine to imagine the past there, Pellegrino's "chronovisor"... 😉
Me suceden cosas extrañas ciertamente. Un día paso en frente de un viejo árbol muerto y en ella veo el rostro de una criatura horrorosa gritando (📷 01)... Otro día observo a lo lejos una zarigüeya en lo alto de un árbol y mientras me acerco para verle mejor, el simpático animal baja hasta las ramas casi a la altura de mi rostro y me regala un bello retrato (📷 02)... Voy al jardín de mi madre a ver la flores de Pitahaya antes de la salida del sol (porque estas flores se cierran al recibir luz solar) y encuentro dentro de una de ellas una abeja que gira y gira sin posarse en los pistilos repletos de polen (📷 03), como si estuviese maravillada por la opulencia natural que observa... Incluso una telaraña repleta de rocío (📷 04), es un universo mágico para mirar a contraluz de un horizonte cubierto por nieblas blancas... Y ni hablar de echar un vistazo dentro de un viejo vehículo abandonado en una calle solitaria (📷 05) e imaginarme que su retrovisor quizás sea una maquina para imaginar el pasado allí, el "cronovisor" de Pellegrino... 😉

Other times, they're simple abstractions found in any street space (📷 06, 07, and 08). Then I take photos of them and imagine things, and I like to get a little crazy and give them slightly strange titles. Because abstractions are therapy, they're cathartic. They unburden my mind of explanations and concepts, taking me to an exquisite uncertainty where no visual sentence seems permanent...
Otras veces son simples abstracciones encontradas en cualquier espacio callejero (📷 06, 07 y 08) Entonces les hago foto e imagino cosas, y me gusta delirar un poco y colocarles títulos un poco extraños. Porque las abstracciones son una terapia, son una catarsis. Descargan mi mente de explicaciones y conceptos, llevándome a una exquisita incertidumbre en donde ninguna sentencia visual parece permanente...

And as a grand finale, the old ice skates (📷 09) that my father used in the early 70s when he went to Caracas, the city where he was born, there was an ice rink in a hotel on a mountain... And a stray cat (📷 10) I always have some cat among my photos, wow! And this one in the photo never looked at the camera, he only allowed me to stroke him while he pretended to be indifferent, but his purring gave him away!...😹
Y como colofón, los viejos patines para hielo (📷 09) que usaba mi padre a principios de los 70 cuando iba a Caracas, su ciudad natal, allá había una pista de hielo en un hotel en una montaña... Y un gato callejero (📷 10) ¡Siempre tengo algún gato entre mis fotos caray! y este dela foto nunca miró la cámara, solo permitió que yo le acariciase mientras el fingía indiferencia ¡pero su ronroneo le delató!... 😹

ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL NOTE: Photographs captured with my Nikon D7000 DSLR camera in RAW format, then processed in Adobe Camera RAW for adjustments regarding light, sharpening, contrast and depth... They were then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape v3.7
NOTA TÉCNICA ADICIONAL: Fotografias capturadas con mi cámara DSLR Nikon D7000 en formato RAW, procesadas posteriormente en Adobe Camera RAW para ajustes relativos a luz, afilado, contraste y profundidad... Luego fueron exportadas a formato JGP sobre el cual se llevaron a cabo modificaciones menores como enderezado y agregado de marcas de agua usando PhotoScape v3.7
