I see people... And I'm fortunate enough to have always been here, in the same place, the same space, the same streets... And I see people, and I know them, I understand them, and I know who they are. And I can stand close to them and listen to their stories, the good ones and the bad ones, the stories of joy and even the ones of misfortune... And in all that whirlwind of humanity, I can also be fortunate enough to shoot a portrait of them up close or even from afar... And they are my people, because they don't flinch, they continue to tell their stories with simplicity, slowly and steadily... And they, sometimes, are like looking at my own reflection; because I look at them so often that, in fact, I end up being one of those many people I see...
Veo gente... Y tengo la fortuna de haber estado siempre aquí, en el mismo sitio, el mismo espacio, las mismas calles... Y veo gente, y les conozco, les entiendo y sé quienes son. Y puedo pararme cerca de ello y escuchar sus historias, las buenas y malas historias, las de alegrías y las de incluso desgracia... Y en todo ese remolino de humanidad, puedo tener también la fortuna de dispararles un retrato muy de cerca o incluso de lejos... Y es mi gente, porque no se inmutan, siguen contando sus historias con sencillez, sin prisa y sin pausa... Y ellos, algunas veces, son como mirarme a mi mismo reflejado; porque les miro tantas veces qué, incluso yo termino siendo también uno de esos tantos a quienes veo...

And street portraiture isn't, in my case, something technical, or an understanding of lighting, angles, or focus... No, the question here is knowing how to find the space where spontaneity converges with the possibility of shooting... At first, years ago, it was something I struggled with; but with the passage of time, both other people and myself ended up understanding that it was a question of timing, of speed, of instinct, something that almost happens for no reason... That is perhaps the most common advantage found in having the same photographic space visited daily... I still have steps to take; I need to evolve in this strange endeavor of mine to record the streets and faces... I hope fate has it in its plans that it be so...
Y el retrato callejero no es, en mi caso, algo técnico; algo que entienda de luces, ángulo o enfoques... No, la cuestión aquí, es saber encontrar el espacio en donde converge la espontaneidad con la posibilidad de disparar... Al principio, años atrás, era algo que me costaba hacer; pero con el paso del tiempo tanto las otras personas, al igual que yo mismo, terminamos por entender que era una cuestión de momento, de velocidad, de instinto, algo que casi ocurre porque sí... Esa es quizás la ventaja más común que se halla en tener un mismo coto fotográfico visitado a diario... Aún me faltan pasos por dar; me faltan evoluciones en este extraño empeño mío de registrar las calles y los rostros... Ojalá el destino tenga en sus planes el que así sea...

ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL NOTE: Photographs captured with my Nikon D7000 DSLR camera in RAW format, then processed in Adobe Camera RAW for adjustments regarding light, sharpening, contrast and depth... They were then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape v3.7
NOTA TÉCNICA ADICIONAL: Fotografias capturadas con mi cámara DSLR Nikon D7000 en formato RAW, procesadas posteriormente en Adobe Camera RAW para ajustes relativos a luz, afilado, contraste y profundidad... Luego fueron exportadas a formato JGP sobre el cual se llevaron a cabo modificaciones menores como enderezado y agregado de marcas de agua usando PhotoScape v3.7
