Hey, Steemians!

This photo was taken in Visegrad, a small town in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The bridge was built in the 16th century and represents one of the most important structures built by the Turkish during their rule over this region. Now, it even holds its place on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites.

There are many myths and legends about this bridge. One of them tells about a time during which the bridge was under construction. While the masons had worked hard to finish it, a fairy would come at night and tear down everything they completed during the day. This went on until the river spoke out to the head mason and told him in order to stop the fairy, he’d have to find a pair of twins in the nearby village and build them into the arches of the bridge. He had done as she proposed and the bridge was soon completed. It’s a sad story and not the only one at that. Still, the bridge played an important role throughout the history and ultimately helped the people who lived here.
