Dazzled By Nature
How often do we take breaks during the day, exercising eyes, refreshing the mind, all good reasons to be outdoors aware of change.
Walks happen randomly throughout the day, whatever pops into sight capturing my interest will be photographed, that is life during the week, hopefully soon we will be wandering the beaches once again soon. 'Go ahead' has been given, I don't trust venturing down till double green robot light is up flashing.
Oncidium (Dancing Lady Orchid)
Two orchids in my tree sharing with Staghorn fern, never flowered in twelve years now establishing themselves. Before going away early October one had a spike protruding up over a foot in length, patience eventually reveals blooms.
Not knowing much about orchids, except odd bits gleaned from @carrinm who shares regularly cycling the bush in Australia orchid sightings and description, mine is limited knowledge. This spike took around a month to reach height, one third down it bent when heavy winds passed through.
Dancing Lady orchid has dazzled me through the month of October now into November with a few blooms still showing from the one and only stem I have ever seen on this plant.
Hopefully soon the other orchid will flower too, it has spread, looks healthy with no interference from yours truly, a wild zone in my garden.
Being protected within the established Staghorn fern (Polypodiaceae), I do not fertilize nor feed, dead tree leaves fall into the Staghorn, small twigs all decay in nature feeding itself, once or twice a year a banana peel is placed to assist. We rely on humidity or rains for watering, truly a natural garden in/under the tree.
Thanks for visiting our end to cool wet Durban, today hot and humid once again, still wishing for snow on the mountains inland, have a wonderful weekend.
