Free As A Bird
Desired by many is to be rid of many restrictions imposed, birds don't encounter life as we do, yet we all enjoy the same sun and moon.
Soaring above or perched on the ground, varied birds appear not to clash often, flourishing on wing, never colliding above, some territorial will push and shove. Only arch enemies will attack when provoked which we seldom notice from below.
Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird hardly visible in the green growth along a wall with berries in season, one might have to good fortune witnessing their movement.
Grey-headed Gull striding forth along the beach between the tangled debris washed down, piercing yellow eyes, with beak and legs to match.
Photography during this last week of July
Brown-hooded Kingfisher vising the garden once again, quietly perched looking for something to eat, the kingfisher that doesn't eat fish!
The Ring-necked Dove, also known as the Cape Turtle Dove, is one of the most common birds found throughout South Africa. Gentle and exceptionally pretty little dove.
Southern Masked-Weaver with red eye, no black mask early in the season or still juvenile feeding with Bronze Mannikin one of our smallest seed eating birds visiting during the cold months of winter.
House Sparrow a regular year-round, each bird has a time or place to congregate, these seldom leave the home once settled.
Hadeda ibises another permanent feature, clearing the underground for the moles to move freely or perhaps enjoying the same meals, normally three or four arrive at a time to do gardening.
Egyptian geese on a high note another regular to our region, obviously a favourite perching spot evident from the spray paint against this black roof tiling.
Big or small appear to live together mostly in harmony, find feeding ground they enjoy then settle in for you to enjoy.
To me personally birds reflect a freedom we so long for, ability to source food without fighting over it, move around with little to bother them except high winds or heavy rain, the sun always arrives to dry out once again.
