Have you ever tried farming two crops that demand completely opposite conditions to thrive? That is what I am engaging in this year and so far it has been one hell of a journey.
Growing groundnut in dry and sandy ridges, while tending to rice in waterlogged paddles, each field tells a different story with its own challenges, rewards, and surprises, yet both share the same goal: a bountiful harvest.
I have to see things in different ways for each crop since their needs are virtually different except for the nutrients which is only slightly different, water needs is far different where'd one needs a lot of water on the field the other needs a specific quantity at a specific time to thrive, surplus water in rice is not a big deal so long as the plant is not covered up by the water whole surplus water for the groundnut is a serious issues that causes poor yield.
The groundnut is currently in good condition in terms of water; there's regular rainfall enough to get a bountiful yield, likewise, the nutrients in the soil, based on how the crop has been faring. However, the only issue is pests and diseases, which I will explain more about in my subsequent post.
My rice is currently only holding on with all it's got cause of the way we are struggling to keep water on the ground rice requires waterlogged farms and right the ground doesn't have any sign of water this is the major cause of the delay in growth, nutrients cannot take effect if the ground is dry so we are currently stuck till there's a progress.
You can see the reasons why most farmers tilt towards one crop, completely abandoning the other, but that's not the case with me. I want to cultivate every crop possible as long as it is beneficial.
