Are you thinking about a low-budget crop that you can invest in, spend less on, and get a whole lot in return? Well, I think this is the right stop.
I'm talking about a crop that quietly transforms your soil, your diet, and your pocket without demanding so much from you.
Groundnuts have been one of the easiest crops to maintain for me as a farmer, and they have also been one of the crops with the best returns, ranking just after rice and maize, even considering my consumption habits.
The big battles that I face in cultivating so many crops are nothing but a story when it comes to groundnuts.
Starting with the most essential nutrients, these guys can survive on lands that virtually look like there are no nutrients in them, and the beautiful thing is that they would still not feel the absence of nutrients.
Why is that?
That's mostly because groundnut is a legume, and by a legume, I mean these virtually trap nitrous from the atmosphere to the ground, benefiting the ground and themselves.
So the big idea here is that no plant is not fertile enough for this guy, and if you continue with Groundnut on farm land after some time, it will eventually become fertile.
This saves me the cost and the stress of getting and applying fertilizers to the farm when I have a crop that can naturally trap them in.
The second thing is that the water demand is low, at some point, excess water even becomes a problem for these guys, so it is best to keep it moderate. That means that during farming seasons where the rainfall is not as heavy as it should be, you can still bank on Groundnut to do well.
So if you are a large-scale farmer or a small-scale farmer, you should really consider adding groundnuts to your farm plans.
