Have you ever been hit by unexpected climatic conditions that almost wrecked your crops? In this post, I’ll share some of my struggles and the lessons I’ve learned, and I’m sure we’ll pick up valuable insights from each other along the way.
Most times it takes a lot of thinking to finally find a way around this things cause some of this conditions can be well beyond what my mind can explain take for instance cases where there's an abrupt stop in rainfall an experience that I might not have experience throughout my years as a farmer now the question would be how do I get the most out of this situation.
Three years ago, we had a situation like that. We had a period when we started cultivating rice, and based on the kind of variety we are planting, we must have planted all our rice before late July, because we know the rain usually stops by early November.
Now, by my calculations, planting in August will mean that the rest of the rice gets less rainfall compared to how it should, and this evidently affects the harvest, so it has been a constant thing to plant before late July.
We experienced something rather strange — the rain stopped abruptly for about a month just after we transplanted the seedlings, causing many of them to dry up before there was any further sign of rainfall.
We lost a lot of seedlings, but were able to replace them thanks to friends around us who still had seedlings in their nurseries.
Now my question is how do you cope with this sudden change in climatic conditions?
