Hello, Hive friends! š
Itās #NeedleworkMonday again, and today Iām excited to share one of my most challenging yet fulfilling crochet projects so farāmy version of the rose bouquet bag. š¹
A regular customer of mine sent me a photo of a beautiful rose bouquet-style crochet bag. He was interested in having one made and asked me about the price. I gave him two options:
-
If he wanted the bag made with soft yarn, I could do it for ā±800.
-
But if he preferred a sturdy version using 1.5mm tiny cords, it would cost ā±1300.
Why the price difference?
Because crocheting with cordāespecially the thin, tough kindāis very painful for the hands. The resistance from the cord, unlike soft yarns, forces my hand to work harder with every stitch. I explained it to him, and he agreed that quality was worth it. So, I went with the cord option.
For this project, I used:
White, red, and green 1.5mm cords
-
3mm crochet hook
-
white beaded strap
-
gold chain sling
-
And a small wooden tag that says āhandmadeā
The bag body was done in white, while the roses were crocheted in red, and the leaves/green section had just two rows. Despite the simplicity of the pattern, the real challenge was the pain from using hard cord. To avoid hurting myself too much, I worked in intervals, resting my hand often. It took me one full day to finish the body of the bag with lots of breaks in between.
Next, I moved on to the green rows, then began the rose budsāthe most time-consuming part. š¹ Each flower was a mix of joy and ache. My fingers were sore, but with every finished rose, I felt a sense of pride and increased motivation to continue.
On the second day, I started working on the bag straps. Originally, the customer only requested a white beaded strap, which was already included in the base price. But when I showed him another optionāa detachable gold chain strapāhe loved the idea and asked to include it. So, I added ā±150 for the extra strap, bringing the total cost to ā±1450.
Since both slings are removable, his girlfriend now has the option to style the bag in two different ways, depending on her outfit or mood. š
Even though this project was tough on my hands, it sparked something in me. I realized that I actually enjoy making this kind of bouquet bag, especially seeing how the flowers ābloomā as I assemble them. I plan to make more of these in different colorsāmaybe pastel shades next time, or using other flower types like lily of the valley or small carnations. I think this concept opens up so many beautiful possibilities!
As a sweet ending to this project, the customer also added a pair of crochet earrings and a mini-bouquet to his order. š„° It feels great when customers truly appreciate handmade items and support our small creative businesses.
Crocheting isnāt just about yarn and hooksāitās about patience, creativity, and a deep love for handmade art. Iām always amazed at how much heart goes into each piece. š
To my fellow crafters here in #NeedleworkMonday:
Have you ever worked with cord before? Do you think ā±1450 ($25.38) was a fair price?
I'd love to hear your thoughts or suggestions for future color combos!
Thanks so much for reading, and I hope this inspires you to keep creatingāeven when it hurts a little, because the joy of seeing your work bloom is always worth it. šø š§¶š
