“Fur ye Sally!” The boy said with an excited smile. “Me?” “Aye, fur ye, th' prettiest Lassie in th' village!” He said with a laugh.
Suddenly the little girl gushed with embarrassment and with the flowers in one hand, turned and ran off unexpectedly…
“Sally?! Sally, dornt gang! Sally….Sally May! Comes back….comes back!”

[On the Silverton…sick bay…]
Just as Hack had predicted, when the red hot iron was pushed into the wound to cauterize the artery, the Captain’s body jerked and convulsed! His head rolled from side to side and suddenly he started to cry out…
“Sally….Sally dorn’t gang! Sally!” He said, slurring his words.
“He's nodded off tae dreamland or one of them 'Out-of-body' experiences!” Commander Kerrislravenhill exclaimed anxiously as she held a firm grip on his arm.
“Don’t lit heem move! Ahh’m almost dain!” Hack warned as a trail of human smoke wafted up out of the wound and filled the air ion the room with a ghastly odor!
“Oh Gawd! The poor Keptin!” Kerrisl said painfully as she watched her captain writhing in pain.
”Aauuugh! Auuuuuugh!” The captain moaned and then…his eyes opened!
In a confused panic he instinctively struck out with his good arm, landing a heaving blow to Hack’s head and sending him staggering backwards!
Hack shook it off and tossed the hot iron aside as he shoved him back down on the surgery bench!
“Joshua! Joshua ye auld foo! It’s me Hack!” He yelled struggling to hold the bigger man down.
The Captain blinked twice and then finally relaxed as his head cleared.
“Keptin, we’re trying to help you please lie still!” Kerrisl pleaded as she held on to his wounded arm.
What…what’s happenin'?!" The Captain blurted out.
“Noo ye listen up Joshua!” Hack began as he pushed down hard on the captain's chest, “Ye ken better than anyain 'att in thes fockin' room Ahh’m th' highest officer oan th' ship!”
Suddenly the Captain’s heavy breathing began to settle and he looked up at Hack and then at Kerrisl and his mind slowly began to clear.
“Ahh’m woonded?!” He asked. “Aye yoo’re woonded an' we’re tryin' loch a coople wild badgers tae mend ye! But if ye don’t settle doon Ahh’ll caa' in ten mair men tae settle ye doon in a coorie!”
The captain laid back and took a deep breath…
“Why ye auld brine dug! Ye shoods hav retired fife years ago!” He sniped with slight grin. “An' if Ahh did, ye woods hav died twice ye auld son-o'-a-beach-dweller!”
The captain grinned and nodded….”Git oan wi' whatever ye hav tae dae ye caterwaulin chatty!”
Hack glanced up at Kerrisl who now was holding back a laugh with all her might…”Aye, he’s coming around now Lass! Keep a strong grip whilst I stitch him up!”
The captain was now fully alert and he braced himself for what was to come…
“Okay Keptin, Hack knows what tae do. This can hurt a wee bit so…” Kerrisl warned.
“Git it dain! 'Att's an order!” The captain said calmly as he set his gaze on the ceiling.
With all the skill that decades of warfare and accidents could bring to bare on a man, Hack set about stitching up the wound. The captain never flinched and as his eyes watered-up and spilled over in a winding path down his face, he held steady until the last stitch was sewn and tied off.
