‘Can we make it to Youngstown?’ °°°°° He wondered desperately, ‘Will my strength hold out? Some pretty complicated problems are coming...we will have to be very alert and more united than ever to counteract all of this!’ °°°°°
The dark of the night fell heavy on our two lost souls. Leyla drifted in and out of consciousness as Lupega held her tight in a strong grip...

[On the Silverton…wee hours of the night…]
Both Commander Kerrislravenhill and Warrant Officer Bleujay were exhausted from the long day, but the captain’s orders had to be completed. Standing in the lower gun deck, they directed the work.
“Pack them well men!” Kerrislravenhill said as she watched the men load black powder bags and wads in all thirteen portside guns.
“Sairrr, what about the balls?” Able Seaman Cve3 asked as he handed a bag to Seaman Meesterboom.
“No iron, men!”
A surprised look shot across the seaman’s face as he shrugged and went on with the work.
“The good ship will carry us all up the swanny, balls or no balls!” Meesterboom whispered to Cve3 with a chuckle.
As the work neared a finish, Bleujay walked the line with the lantern and set a wick in each fire hole.
“Gun doors open?” Cve3 asked as he packed the last cannon barrel. “Gun doors closed.” Bleujay said abruptly as she continued focusing on wicks.
“Blimey mate, what’s going on?” Meesterboom whispered quietly. “No telling!” Cve3 whispered back as he brushed the loose powder dust off his sleeves, “But the captain has something up his sleeve!”
“That’ll be all for now men. No gabbing about the guns up top.” Kerrislravenhill said as folded her arms. “Aye Sairrr! Not a word!” Meesterboom replied with a short salute.
After the men left, Bluejay turned to face the Commander, “Do you think it will play out as the captain says Sairrr?” “"I've crossed paths with Captain Bartholomew before. I’d like to ask him what business brings him over from plucking fishing boats off the coast of Africa…" “Hmm, aye, it’s a queer change of career goals!”
A "16-poonder" refers tae th' weight o' th' cannon baa', nae th' cannon itself. A historical rule o' thumb fur cannon loads was 'at th' weight o' th' powder shoods be rooghly one-third th' weight o' th' cannon baa'. Therefair, a 16-poonder cannon woods hauld approximately 5 tae 5.3 poonds o' black powder per shot, althoogh th' actual amoont coods vary dependin' oan th' gin an' th' desired effect an' sae forth.
