The Universidad de La Costa is one of the biggest and best universities in Colombia, Located in the city of Barranquilla, Atlantico, this university in 2024 was ranked as the 2nd best in Colombia by the World University Ranking from Times Higher Education, and first one in the “Costa Colombiana”/Colombian Coast.
Also in 2025 they keep the same ranking!
This university was founded in 1970 by Eduardo Crissien Samper, father of the actual ‘owner’ Tito José Crissien, Ex-Minister of science and technology from 7 July 2021 to the end of the government of Iván Duque Márquez.
This university have been growing in the last years and showing a real impact on the society, the quality of education and in the local area, you can be a physical student (Attending classes in Barranquilla), or you can study from house (Not the first one in doing it, but it shows a better quality on virtual classes than other universities that offer the same service in Colombia).
Is it public or private?
This university is a private university, however in Barranquilla and all the big areas of Colombia you can find public universities to study, but those are not free sometimes, and the quality of education compared to the worse private universities can be something to discuss.

Usiacurí, Atlántico
Usiacurí is a municipality in the department of Atlántico, Colombia. It is known as "The Nativity Scene of Atlántico" in reference to the Christmas tradition evoked by its picturesque houses built on irregular terrain. - Wikipedia
In 2024 Usiacurí started a bitcoin movement, integrating bitcoin in their systems, pockets and economy, which is really particular, Usiacurí is around one hour and a half far from Barranquilla, their population is about 13,573 people living there, and they started a bitcoin community from scratch.
This mean two things for bitcoin and circular economies, the first one is that this is a real bitcoin community, normally those kind of circular economies start because a Bitcoin Educator/Youtuber/Maximalist start talking to people about it and just convince them about it because it’s money and they can accept it and later swap it to Colombian Currency, but this is not the case, they start receiving bitcoin by their own, and started doing transactions between them with it, an article from “El Tiempo” talks about this and the direct relation between Usiacurí and the Universidad de La Costa.
They started supporting the idea from the Crypto side of the university and they started with Bitcoin, USDT (TRX) and Tron, this is a great start, however we know that USDT is literally Bank 2.0, USDT is backed by a bank in Switzerland with physical money, they can block your addresses or retain your funds.
And The Bitcoin Support?
Any Bitcoin Circular economy around the world have been getting supported by Bitcoin Wallets, companies or foundations, in some cases these circular economies also run a crowdfunding to start receiving money and do some work there, but in this case, no one of the Bitcoin Influencers, companies, or foundations have tried to go there and help, support or give ideas, this is not the ideal case, but we are here to help.
Colombia always have been an independent country and sometimes not taking in count for great crypto related stuff, that’s why I think Usiacurí it’s the beginning of Bitcoin in Colombia, in a decentralized way, without companies getting money from people, influencers doing business there or strange bitcoin projects messing around.
Usiacurí can be one of the real and hard bitcoin communities using real wallets and doing real adoption, we know that some people is always scared about Bitcoin volatility, that’s why we are going to offer a solution for the USDT problem, HBD and DOC (Hive Backed Dollar and Dollar on Chain).
This is a great university, I participated in a speech around one year ago about Bitcoin and libertarianism, we participated with a Blockchain Expert, Olsen Ortiz, the ex-minister Tito Crissien and me.
We had a great speech there and also got a lot of students impressed by Bitcoin, so I think we should collaborate with them to have the first Bitcoin University that also gives education on Hive, as I always said, there is crypto and there is a happy triangle where you need in one side Bitcoin, cause it's the best asset in the world, you need monero so you can transact private money, and you need hive to distribute the money and do communities!
I would recommend to study in this university, also I would do it, there's a lot of great reviews about it and they're always looking to do innovation!
