Little has really changed since those early years of the 20th century when the Sevillian poet Antonio Machado, settled in Soria and recently married to the very young Leonor, following the recommendations of his friend, the writer Pío Baroja, embarked on the great adventure which, no matter how you look at it, always involves seeking inspiration in a place where Nature, oblivious to the media-driven stupidity of men, subtly allows itself to be carried away by its creative impulse, recreating itself with places of outstanding beauty: the Laguna Negra of the Peaks of Urbión.
Located at the confluence of that vital artery, which, for Old Castile, always represented Burgos, the surprising experience that Machado had when, leaving behind the dense forest area where pine and fir are the undisputed kings, while poplars, oaks, and chestnuts embrace the rules of autumn, irremediably shedding their leaves in an eternal cycle of death and resurrection, the almost perfect oval of a lagoon that every night collects the mysterious songs of the distant moon and reflects, in the tempered surface of its waters, the intermittent glow of the even more distant stars, represented, for his ennobled creativity, the necessary impulse to create an epic work of art: the Land of Alvargonzález.
Crime, mystery, unbridled passions, and impossible inheritances were the main plots that unleashed the passionate stabs of parricide. They were that miserable mixture of biases that, like a biblical serpent, ruined this paradise crowning the ancient peaks of Urbión, leaving behind, almost as anecdotes, a multitude of legendary stories that are barely remembered today by the warmth of the hearth when the tramontane winds blow hard, the snow falls with persistent intensity, and the ice threatens to freeze the heart.
Poco ha cambiado, realmente, desde aquellos primeros años del siglo XX en los que el poeta sevillano, Antonio Machado, afincado en Soria y recién casado con la jovencísima Leonor, siguiendo las recomendaciones de su amigo, el también escritor, Pío Baroja, emprendió la gran aventura, que, se mire por donde se mire, supone siempre buscar inspiración en un lugar donde la Naturaleza, ajena a la mediática estupidez de los hombres, se deja llevar sutilmente por su impulso creador, recreándose a sí misma con lugares de sobresaliente belleza: la Laguna Negra de los Picos de Urbión.
Situada en la confluencia de esa arteria vital, que, para la Vieja Castilla supuso siempre Burgos, la sorpresiva experiencia que tuvo Machado cuando, dejando atrás la tupida zona de bosque donde el pino y el abeto son los reyes indiscutibles, mientras álamos, robles y castaños se acogen a las leyes de comparsa del otoño, mudando irremediablemente la hoja en un eterno ciclo de muerte y resurrección, el óvalo casi perfecto de una laguna que recoge todas las noches los cánticos misteriosos de la lejana Luna y refleja, en la atemperada superficie de sus aguas el brillo intermitente de las aún más lejanas estrellas, supuso, para su ennoblecida creatividad el impulso necesario para crear una épica obra de Arte: la Tierra de Alvargonzález.
Crimen, misterio, pasiones desenfrenadas y herencias imposibles fueron los argumentos principales que desencadenaron las pasionales puñaladas del parricidio, fueron esa miserable mezcolanza de sesgos, que, cual serpiente bíblica, arruinaron este paraíso que corona los ancestrales picos de Urbión, dejando, casi en anécdotas, multitud de legendarias historias, que, en la actualidad, apenas se recuerdan al calor del fuego del hogar cuando los vientos tramontanos soplan con fuerte, la nieve cae con persistente intensidad y el hielo amenaza con congelar el corazón.
