Preikestolen, also known as Pulpit Rock, is a steep cliff situated in southwestern Norway above the Lysefjord. It is one of Norway's most famous natural landmarks. The flat, rectangular rock formation juts out 604 meters (1,982 feet) above the fjord below, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. Preikestolen was formed during the last Ice Age, around 10,000 years ago, when glaciers shaped the rocky landscape. The cliff has been a popular destination for hikers and climbers for over a century, with the first recorded ascent taking place in 1900.
My wife and I had always dreamed of hiking to the iconic Pulpit Rock in Norway. So finally, we decided to make it happen and planned our hike for the late afternoon, hoping to catch the sunset at the top. We arrived at the park and saw that most people were already walking down. We started our hike feeling excited and a bit nervous at the same time. As we reached the top, the wind started to pick up, and we were alone on the rocky plateau. We sat down and watched as the sun slowly set behind the fast-moving clouds and fjords, painting the sky in a beautiful array of colors. It was a moment of pure magic and beauty that we will never forget. However, as we started to hike back down, we realized that the trail was getting darker and darker. We had not anticipated that the hike would take longer than we thought, and the pitch black surrounding made the descent challenging. We had to carefully navigate the rocky terrain, using our flashlights to guide us. After what felt like hours, we finally made it back to the parking lot, feeling relieved and glad for making it through the challenge. It was a day filled with adventure, beauty, and a reminder of the power of nature. Enjoy!
