As one of the oldest medieval towns on the French Riviera, Saint Paul de Vence is well known for its modern and contemporary art museums and galleries that are spread out within the hilly town. In addition, the famous La Colombe d'Or hotel, whose former guests include Jean-Paul Sartre and Pablo Picasso, has added the reason to visit this charming and beautiful town. Saint-Paul is also well known for the artists who have lived there, such as Jacques Raverat, Gwen Raverat, Marc Chagall, and more recently, the couple Bernard-Henri Lévy and Arielle Dombasle.
Saint Paul is a very relaxing place to visit, and I imagine it must be a pleasant place to live as an artist. The narrow-steps alleys, centuries-old stone cottages, and panoramic views of the glittering Mediterranean Sea, it just stunning! It reminds me of what Peter Mayle, a British author, once said, "St-Paul-de-Vence, one of the most beautiful villages in France, is a perfect balance of old and new, with narrow, winding streets, lovely gardens, and contemporary art galleries." Enjoy!
Thank you for traveling with me!
This is part of my ongoing travel visual clips, where I share a glimpse of my travel visuals and thoughts. Each series features a paragraph about the history of the place, followed by a paragraph describing my thoughts while exploring that place. Accompanied by no more than fifteen carefully curated images that I took, each series is intended to give you the umami of travel. - Julius Yls
