Intro
I just started this beautiful anime. A friend recommended it to me. When I initially started watching it, it felt uninteresting, and I almost turned it off to watch something else, but then, being generous, I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt and watch a few more episodes. That was when I got hooked and started wishing there was a second season.
Let's Gist About this Anime Series.
This is a story of a group of heroes that defeated the Demon King, who terrorized the whole world with his minions. The group of heroes were Himmel, Frieren, Heiter (the priest), and Eisen (the dwarf warrior). After their whole adventure of travelling to the Demon King's castle and defeating him, Frieren, an Elf in the group, left to have her own adventure of studying magic.
60 years passed, and Frieren came back to see them. The rest of the group had gotten really old, while Frieren still looked pretty young because she's an elf, and elves in this series tend to have a very long life span. Shortly after she came, Himmel died, and to everyone's surprise, Frieren cried. This was surprising even to me because Frieren shows almost no emotion.
The story gets more interesting when the priest, whom Frieren frequently called the "corrupt" priest, called Frieren and tricked her into finding a spell to make him not die because he wanted to live a bit more. He tricked her so she would stay and train a young girl whom the priest adored. The priest eventually died, and the young girl called Fern, who is a mage, became pretty good at magic.
Let's See Some of the Adventures Fern and Frieren Had Together
The Mages vs. Solitar
During the war, there was a powerful demon that created a powerful attack spell, which easily wiped out mages and even warriors. The group of heroes was able to defeat and seal him but couldn't kill him because he's so powerful. Years later, the seal became weak, and Frieren had to unseal him to kill him this time. The mages over the years had redeveloped his spell and made it more powerful, and she and Fern were able to easily go defeat him. The battle scene was quite epic.
Frieren Actually Has a Heart
Frieren went back to plant Himmel's favorite flower around his statue. They passed through a village where they had once helped drive off demons, so the villagers showed appreciation by constructing a statue of Himmel so that the future generation of the village wouldn't forget him for the great service he had rendered. Frieren and Fern literally had to look for seeds of a presumed extinct flower. They found it and got the flower blooming around Himmel's statue.
What I'm Anticipating
It was during my writing of this post that I found out that there were actually 28 episodes instead of 20 which I thought. The episode where I stopped ended in an intense battle that's really getting me curious. Frieren is the most powerful and oldest mage known currently in the series. She legit conceals her mana (kind of like an energy level) to make opponents underestimate her. She and Fern wanted to get a First-Class Mage Certificate so they could cross a land to travel. They had to contend with other mages. I'm curious how the battle ended between Frieren's group and a set of powerful second-class mages. That suspense almost made me cry.
Rating
I am not done seeing the series but I would give it an 8/10. Maybe it would have been higher if the series had made the intro much better and gotten me hooked from the beginning. It was in the later episodes that I got really invested in it. Although the storyline is bomb, the battle scenes are good, and the animation is pretty good. I recommend this to viewers in the community.
Season Available
Currently, there is only a Season 1 with 28 solid episodes.
See you guys later; I'm off to watch the rest of the episodes.
