Let's first define what makes up your physical health and mental health.
Physical health refers to the well-being of the body and its ability to function properly. It mainly involves aspects like nutrition, exercise, sleep, hygiene, absence of diseases, and efficient functioning of organs and systems.
When we talk of mental health, it refers to the well-being of the mind. I'm of the opinion that one can't function without the other. Neglecting either of them could make you fall off the edge little by little.
My Experience
There was a time in my life where I was at my lowest point and then decided to improve myself. I started off by taking care of my physical health; I started working out daily, trying to build muscle and a better body system. It worked for a while, sticking to the routine of waking up at 5:30 AM to start my day early, working out, and eating well, but something was still missing. It worked for months, but I felt myself slipping off again, and I got back to being depressed and even my routine got retarded. I'm someone that doesn't let things off easily; I love to know the 'why.' Why and how did retrogressiveness come in? I pondered and observed that it was my lack of attention to my mental health that caused this. I thought working on my physical body alone would fix my problems, but the truth is, your mind is like a garden; it has to be nurtured, guarded, and cared for just as much as your physical body.
So can there be a Balance? ⚖
Absolutely!
In my Opinion, here is How to Strike a Balance to Prevent One-Sided Care of Oneself:
Socialize: You have to understand that human beings are social creatures. We need to talk to people and move with people to have a great life. You can't and shouldn't do life alone. Talking to friends and family is a therapy in itself; you need to unwind once in a while. I understand we're in a world where you want to thrive and get it all in a day, but you have to take a pause sometimes to visit family and friends and also go out to interact with people. If you feel you're introverted and don't want to go out, try @sam.hangout created by @samostically; it's a place on Hive for Nigerians to socialize on Hive (online) and also physically.
Try to Drink Water and Be a Better Person: Don't always behave like a wizard; be nice to people. Helping and saying positive things to other people produces chemicals in your head that make you as a person happy. Be Nice to People 🤗. I really applaud communities on Hive; they always include a golden rule, which is 'being nice to people in the comments.' Spreading positivity and love rewards you
I have been speaking more on mental health because I feel your mind controls your destiny. What you think and feel shapes you and determines your level of success. It doesn't mean you should neglect your physical health, though. You need to eat right (nutrition), drink lots of water, exercise, sleep well, and be hygienic.
Wow, I wrote a lot.
I really should be taking my advice.
