It's unusual. Yes, I know. But these cute foam sandals were a must-have decoration for our beach-themed party. My friends complimented me on them, and of course, someone had to make a joke about them. I decided to make them life-size, using Rafaella's and my own feet as a reference. But it's worth mentioning that my feet aren't small. I won't reveal my shoe size, but I will say that I'm the woman with the biggest feet I know. I'll leave that to your imagination.

Mis amigos me dieron muchos halagos y no faltó quien hiciera un chiste sobre las mismas. Es que se me ocurrió hacerlas en tamaño real y tomé como referencia el tamaño del pie de Rafaella y el mío, Pero cabe mencionar que mi pie no es pequeño, no les revelaré la talla, pero sí les diré que yo soy la mujer de pie más grande que conozco. Ahí les dejo para que imaginen.

However, despite the jokes, which ranged from funny to annoying, I don't regret making these sandals, because I still think they look good. Let's see how to make them. By the way, you don't need many materials to make them: foam, iridescent paper, cardboard, glue stick, cold or hot silicone, and some decorative flowers. I used some crochet flowers I had left over from other projects.

Sin embargo, pese a los chistes que fueron de divertidos a pesados, no me arrepiento de hacer estás sandalias, pues sigo pensando que lucen bien. Veamos cómo hacerlas. Por cierto, se requiere poco material para su elaboración; foami, papel iris, cartón, pegamento en barra, silicón frío o caliente y unas flores decorativas, utilicé unas crochet que tenía sobrando de otros proyectos.

First, we make the pattern on paper. We can do this directly with our foot or we can use a sandal we have available. Then we transfer the pattern to the cardboard and cut it out. The same pattern works for both feet, just turn it upside down. Now with the silhouette already cut out on the cardboard, we use it to mark the silhouette on the foam and cut it out.

Primero hacemos el patrón en papel. Podemos hacer directamente con el pie o podemos usar una sandalia que tengamos disponible. Luego pasamos el patrón al cartón y recortamos. El mismo patrón nos sirve para ambos pies, solo dándole vueltas al revés. Ahora con la silueta en el cartón ya recortada, la usamos para marcar la silueta en el foami y la recortamos.

Once we have the templates ready, we will cut long strips measuring one centimeter. These will be used to cover the entire edge of the template and cover the cardboard to give it a clean finish. We will also cut one-centimeter strips to make the straps for the sandals.

Una vez que tenemos listas las plantillas vamos recortar tiras largas de un centímetro. Estás servirán para cubrir toda la orilla de la plantilla y cubrir el cartón para darle un acabado limpio. También recortamos tiras de un centímetro para realizar las correas de las sandalias.

Now we cut out flowers of different sizes and colors. The flowers are made with iris paper that we have folded three times and then cut into a curve to make eight-petal flowers. We glue the flowers onto the templates. It is important to do this step before attaching the straps, as this will prevent the straps from getting in the way when we attach the flowers.

Ahora recortamos flores de diferentes tamaños y colores. Las flores están hechas con papel iris que hemos doblado tres veces y luego hacemos un corte curvo para tener flores de ocho pétalos. Pegamos las flores sobre las plantillas. Es importante hacer este paso antes de colocar las correas ya que de esta manera evitamos que las correas nos estorben para colocar las flores.

With the flowers already glued on, make a cut in the top center and two on the sides. Use a sandal you have at home as a reference. Insert the straps through the openings and secure them with silicone. Now glue the cardboard insole underneath and cover the entire outline with the foam strips you cut out earlier. Place the decorative flowers and you're done.

Con las flores ya pegadas, hacemos un corte en la parte superior en el centro y dos a los lagos. Tomamos como referencia alguna sandalia que tengamos en casa. Introducimos las correas por las aberturas y aseguramos con silicón. Ahora pegamos la plantilla de cartón por debajo y cubrimos todo el contorno con las tiras de foamy que hemos recortado previamente. Colocamos las flores decorativas y terminamos.

This is how the Hawaiian-style sandals finally turned out, and they are the last decorative element for Rafaella's party. Here's how they turned out in the end.
